  1. Good morning, Had the pleasure of talking with John Byrne awhile back for SYFY. He also was nice enough to sketch for our Artists Alley video series. JB was pleasantly surprised when I asked him to draw Cyclops. Here's the edited video -- it was incredible watching him draw a few feet from me. Link: And since this is an OA forum, here's the finished piece, which is HUGE, 18x24. hope you like ... Mike
  2. the fact it's in Hong Kong raised a red flag for me ... but the guy does have a stellar feedback record.
  3. A Byrne/Austin page from the most iconic X-Men storyline ever? I'm surprised it's not higher
  4. gorgeous! not sure of the size, but imagine it's normal Ross size (11x17). His DC work from that era tends to have strong appeal, and while I'm no expert, I'd say 15-$20k is the price range for this. Congrats on owning this wonderful piece
  5. I don't understand the need for a snide remark about someone coming to an OA message board asking for some guidance. The guy asked for help identifying what he had and the accompanying value. Why not just offer assistance (like other posters did) and withhold the snark??
  6. Use the coupon code PICKDADSGIFT to save 20% off today ONLY on eBay. Just bought a 5-page Archie story and saved a few bucks. just wanted to make sure everyone was aware. Mike
  7. Just giving this a friendly BUMP to remind people this auction ends tonight.
  8. dude, congrats on taking this down at the Heritage auction. I wanted to bid heavy on it, but couldn't free up the funds in time to make a serious run. Absolutely LOVE this image of Cap for the nostalgic reasons you mentioned. It's one of the definitive images of the Bronze Age for me.
  9. Hello, Just a heads up for Bronze Age collectors that the OA to the cover of Shang-Chi, Master of Kung Fu #60 by Ernie Chan is ending soon on ComicLink. It's an awesome cover by Chan, featuring not just Shang-Chi and a ton of baddies, but Marvel's ultimate Big Bad, DOCTOR DOOM! link: http://www.comiclink.com/Auctions/allsub.asp?Focused=1&id=1398&Artist=ERNIE CHAN Mike
  10. Thanks for the kind words on this! Sincerely, The host, writer & Executive Producer :)
  11. Jim isn't drawing anymore. I interviewed him a few months ago, right after his Sodastream accident. It damaged his hand pretty badly.
  12. Anyone ever seen the OA to the splash page to AVENGERS 159? I know pages from this issue are scarce and in demand, but would love to know if its even out there.
  13. Look man, you sound like you're going through some trying times so please don't take this as piling on. But I always think it helps to view a situation from the opposite point of view. How would you feel if you were Perez's rep and you told your client to do a commission, taking time out of his schedule to do it, only to then find out AFTER its done that the client can't pay for it? I bet you would be a bit upset. I've seen Perez work; he's deliberate and he puts 100% effort into his commissions. He also has been in failing health and so, its not as easy as one might think to sit down and draw. So you have to take that into account. If you weren't clear about when the artist would start the commission, you should have asked. Again, it sounds like your personal financial difficulties are pretty bad. There's no shame in that, or in admitting that. And its admirable that you were trying to honor your commitment. But you should have been more proactive in telling Spencer when it became apparent you could not. I've bought art off Spencer before and he's connected me with various artists he reps. with me, he's always been upfront and easy to deal with. Can't speak for others. Just my two cents. Most important, I hope your situation improves.
  14. I'm in the same boat. I LOVE #102 ... nobody drew Juggernaut like Cockrum. Awesome comic AND cover art!
  15. interesting issue. I live in Miami, and the room where I hang up some of my art I tend to keep fairly dark, with the shades drawn. But I haven't thought to check the back of the frame to see if heat is getting through the walls. Our place isn't quite as vintage as yours, Glen, but I'll be checking that when I get back home.
  16. It took me until revisiting the Fourth World books in my 30s to finally 'get' what Kirby was doing with his 70s DC work. As a kid, I was completely turned off by it. When I re-read the series and saw the art through more experienced eyes, I was floored. I also didn't get Sienkiewicz on New Mutants, either. Took me years to finally appreciate how insanely creative that run was.
  17. I've never been to a European show, but do artists typically sketch more at those shows than here in the states? Just curious.
  18. I wanted to bid on it, but they don't accept AMEX, which is a deal-breaker for me. Also, I can't seem to easily search for OA on that site. Am I missing something or is that site just that hard to navigate?
  19. How does this make him look bad? Fans ask him ALL THE TIME to do commissions, and now he's doing them. It's not cheap because he's a top talent who recognizes the value his artwork has on the secondary market. He doesn't owe anyone free or discounted art (and BTW, Jim probably gives away more free sketches than any other highly collectible artist). I just never understand when people get upset when an artist aggressively prices his art. No one is forcing anyone to buy it.
  20. this is just glorious. Congratulations on picking this one up!
  21. Burkey would know better than me, but I'm all but certain John Romita doesn't have the ASM #39 cover. I've been to his house and spent the afternoon with John and Virginia, and it wasn't there. I mean, he could have it under lock & key and out of sight, but I doubt it.
  22. Dang, that is a BEAUTIFUL cover! Nice pick up .... I'm glad all turned out well for everyone. I've bought several pages from Dave in the past and never had an issue.
  23. I did. Missed out one page I really wanted and I'm going to try for another one that's on eBay now. Thanks for the heads up~!
