  1. It's been going on for years now. The big cards in high grades have skyrocketed.
  2. Then you must know of what I speak! That would take a loooonnnggg time to put together - you're paying less per book than on the 'Bay or elsewhere AND someone took the time and did all the legwork putting them together. Congrats!
  3. Does anyone else find it a tad lazy or cause for concern when the books in the larger lots are fanned out where you can only see less than half the cover? In most cases you wouldn't be able to see a subscription crease on an otherwise sharp copy, nor a large corner crease, etc. From the lots I perused, it would be tough to know whether you're setting your bid for say five good books times the money or eight or ten... I guess it's a roll of the dice like so many auctions. Still, it was a great collection and a great find, and even though it's a little sad to see it broken up, now a good number of collectors can enjoy the books. p.s. I can't imagine how long it took the cowpoke who put that collection together to find stuff like the Charlton Lash Larue's and the like: not high-demand books necessarily, but tougher to find than ASM 1-10 if we're being honest.
  4. Is there anyway to easily view completed lots from tonight's Quick Draw auction on CC?

  11. Though we have never met, I have come to know you ever so slightly from your posts, and since you strike me as a passionate man with a zeal for life that obviously goes way beyond comics, I am deeply saddened that you are going through this. Please accept my sincerest condolences.
  12. Once again, amazing high-grade examples! I don't know how you keep coming up with such nice examples with everyone at home scouring online n all... I know you've mentioned you like to actually (gasp!) read your books - are you able to do so without damaging them? I'd be scared to open them beyond two inches or so, so perhaps you are adept at reading at an angle?
  13. Early Pocket firsts in condition are few and far between. That is a great pick-up!
  14. Here’s a fun group I got in a great Boardie’s recent sale. I like little reminder shots like this showing what books came in which groups. I wish it was an easier task decades ago: it would be fun to look back on those great trips to the comic store or those local cons of yore.
  15. Navy Tales #3 - Good; writing on cover; general wear; nice pages. $15.
  16. War Comics #12 - Fair/Good; piece out right edge; spine split tears lower left, still hanging on. Great bayonet cover!! $25
  17. Marines In Battle #13 - Good+ w/ chipping to right edge; general wear and creasing. Cool machine gun cover! $25
  18. I wouldn't trade either!! That is an overgraded 7.0, in my very humble opinion. Manipulating a book - in this case actually removing traces of the book - to counter earlier manipulation is folly at best. I am reminded of a dog chasing it's own tail. Is a micro-trim all that different than removing the upper surface of the cover?? It seems like there are some highly arbitrary winds that blow through this hobby every few years...
  19. Agreed, not Marvel chipping - it looks like possible insect damage.
  20. Same here, regarding the Atlas and Fiction House books, and also Archie, DC, EC, and Dell. A lot of Hillman books reside together, too. It sounds like a lot of publishers broken out, but not when you consider the number of publishers in the 50's especially. And as far as the Dell boxes go, I have plenty of those as well. For one, they're so affordable, and a box with say Bugs or Donald in it is bound to have a dozen or more Dell Giants and those things take up a LOT of room in the boxes. So worth it, though, as great examples of Americana!! (Oh, and then there is that nasty complication of some books being in mylar and residing in magazine boxes while the poly-bagged (egads, I know!) books can still fit in a massaged short box.)
