  1. What if you were to get them bound in their own book? Would that loophole it? I think that either way it is pretty neat to have nice reading copies of classic comics, especially the issues that don't see reprinting because they are not key books nor important to the canon.
  2. Look at all that drek. All those comics say 12cents. Why would you pay so much for comics that you can just buy for 12 cents ?!?!
  3. She needs to walk to really appreciate how the M&M rack can hold her shoes.
  4. Washington D.C.? I don't know of any good shops there for what you are looking for, though I am sure there is someone here who would disagree with me. You can hop on the metro in D.C. to the Wheaton stop and head on to Barbarian Books. They have Golden - modern there though I am not sure how the prices are. I always remembered them to be fair.
  5. I don't think this story takes over an hour to tell. Could anyone give a TLDR version?
  6. You can ship a lot of things in envelopes as long as you know how to pack it properly. It does not mean it should be done every single time. I deal mostly with trading online miniatures and CCGs but I buy 50-100 of those BCW card boxes, which lasts me a long time until it is time to resupply. Those Gemini mailers seems great for comics and they are costing me $0.70 per mailer if I buy 100 of them. They seems like a sound investment for sellers to ensure there are no hiccups... However, if someone doesn't want to go that route they should take the time to acquire and cut a lot of cardboard boxes so they have a good amount on hand to take care of their shipping needs. Doing that prep work is so annoying and daunting but it makes the whole process to ship soooo much easier and the whole process hassle free.
  7. While I am not into this book, what I love about it is that it was personally annotated by his wife beyond what the magazine was able to accomplish. I bet this would be utterly fascinating to someone who collects western stuff. I bet there are a number of us who wish someone would have annotated those huge pictures of the old DC comics dinner photos.
  8. Do any of them still have the coupon? That's where you need to spend the big bucks!
  9. Thanks for the heads up, it is always appreciated. Unfortunately the percentage off coupons are better for me.
  10. I am with you, I want books to read and hold and mentally put together the fold-ins. Thankfully 1-23 has been wonderfully reprinted in book form.
  11. It's good to have a niche inside an already extensive run of a series. What are you missing? Are you trying to have them in a special condition?
  12. Very nice looking copy. Does this complete your collection somehow?
  13. Keep it as is. I think there is something to be said about comics through their condition, from a rip, to a tear, to the person's name written on the cover. Superman #1 has been reprinted enough that if you want a copy to read or hold, go for the reprint. From your post you make it seem like that there are more restored copies than unrestored, so your copy is rarer. I wouldn't change it.
  14. I never thought it was true about dogs and comics. So sad to hear about the destruction.
  15. How much was each piece that your friend bought? If they were really inexpensive and he really likes it then I don't blame him.
  16. Yes! I agree I was surprised too. Maybe they wanted to create a book saying that there are other comics besides Maus, or maybe it was because those were comic books that were readily available as comic books and not just a mini-comic in a magazine like Maus.
  17. I bought something that morning and got a text notification about 4 hours after I bought it. I could have saved about $15 and would have backed out then bought it again at the discounted price but I was at work and didn't want to deal with that mess using my phone.
  18. I think that the main thing for me is that despite this being a thread about why we need the CGC you spent too much effort talking about a real ebay seller with a specific auction in mind and a response from that seller. It's clear to me that you assume too much about what I know based on what I choose to discuss as I like to play devils advocate on point of view, and, just because I give another point of view doesn't mean I don't understand, agree, or sympathize. IT is just my focus of discussion.
  19. So if selling a book for NM, getting NM prices, and the comic not being in NM considered stealing. Rhetorically, wouldn't paying way below value to anyone who is unsure of what they have be considered stealing too? (Don't answer that because I have seen plenty of threads here debate that trainwreck of morality) Either way, I was interested in the topic that was titled but it turned out to be an ebay complaint thread, which was disappointing. I hope you returned the book and got your money back with no hassle since you were not satisfied.
  20. I agree. If there is a standard for grading then there should be guidelines and criteria to follow. They should be known for the whole hobby to use and enjoy but also have a reigning body who would be known as professionals who can professionally grade based on those guideline. While I think the seller should have responded better it seems like you were expecting a book that would come back as a certain grade if you were to send it in. So why not just get the book in the grade you wanted? IF you do not want to go that route, then you won an auction using everything you know from description, images, and everything in between. You agreed to bid and willing to buy it for the price you were offering and you won. I don't think that the seller did anything wrong and was not stealing from you. Just the fact that the seller said, "SPECTACULAR NEAR MINT CONDITION FROM MY PERSONAL COLLECTION." automatically makes me think it was not in NM condition. There has never been a spectacular near mint from a grading service, nor would I have ever found it looking in Overstreet or *gulp dare I mention it* Wizard magazine. Take it as a lesson, maybe next time ask more questions or get more pictures.
  21. Excellent Ebay is still one of the best places to buy Mad, especially in bulk. I always felt that I was getting more for my money when I bought a Mad magazine used for $1. I find myself rereading a lot more than a comic book. I could reread them again and get even more out of it because I never read the movie spoofs.
