the flea market was "The 49er" .... near Tampa the guy has another one....newer but about 6 inches shorter. I couldn't fit them both in my car as I was on vacation.

I lived in Tampa for about 30 years and never heard of "the 49er"-- where is that located? The main one I recall was in Oldsmar off Hillsborough-- maybe that was the same place. There was another off Waters & Anderson Road too-- not sure if that was still going though. (sorry if you don't know being out of town).

 

Yeah, Oldsmar is still around. Not the one on waters though.

The 49er is on 49th st in St Pete... Right near emerald city comics

I've seen these sell for $2-300

But the last couple sold for close to $700!

Glenn Strange Bucket 1962-64 by the Clinton Toy Corp

been hunting all year for this

it's dated from the 1960s

not much info around about it

however it does include the little MPC figures

im pretty sure frito lay released these figures as well

they also made slightly larger ones that had a pop top head

stumbled across this today

Aurora received national television attention when the cbs evening news visited his shop. Walter Cronkite and Palmer held a conversation in the Monster Korner of the store. Big Frankie occupies the top shelf in the Monster Korner."

"vintage 60s factory produced piece (not homemade or something), and originally made for the Aurora monster model contest... but it was not made by Aurora Plastics (which made injected plastic products, not metal trophies). They were produced by a company that specifically made metal trophies, for the Aurora sponsored contest. model stores were giving these away for the Aurora Master Monster Model contest and this is how they were offered to hobby stores by Trost Hobby in Chicago in the mid 1960s."

I have the original store display diorama for Monster Scenes sitting in my living room. Sadly I have no camera with which to take a photo of it.

The one thing that wasn't made clear in the story was how the animals were shipped. I would think a courier service right? I can't imagine a live animal delivered via the USPS!

that is a good point... how the heck did the little critters make it from florida across country?

a courier seems the most plausible... doesnt seem very cost effective though
