  1. Upper left corner color rub is biggest culprit but otherwise pressed out pretty nice..your thoughts?
  2. I wanted you guys' thoughts on this because I have run into this on a few of my books. This book has a few small cuts/tears on the top of the book. I have a handful of other books with seemingly the same strange cuts and almost all of them also have uneven/jagged/chunky cuts on the actual outer edges of the inner pages as well. This leads me to believe the cutting machine was dull or something, which likely caused the cuts on the top of the book. How does cgc handle this? I tried to zoom in on the cuts but they are not very noticeable, even in person. Thanks.
  3. Not sure if I even want to send it in but I have always liked this book and was wondering your thoughts about this? Bottom left corner color break and and a couple of light color breaking spine ticks. Thanks
  4. What are your thoughts on this? I highlighted one little chip on the back cover that I thought was missing but found out was just folded in. After a little work and a press, it seems to be pretty flush and the paper fibers seemed to have meshed back together pretty well so its not super obvious. How hard would this get hit if sent in? Thanks!!
  5. Got it, thanks. Ya, I guess it is a slight tear at the staple. Bottom right seems okay but it looks like it was cut a little weird in production because all the pages kind of follow the same shape.
  6. Hello and thank you. Ya, there is a piece/chunk out on the back cover but I might have missed the tear. Where are you seeing it? Also, forgive me if I should know this, but what is "BRFC"?
  7. I am not sure I am ready to talk about it yet, I am sure one day I will gather the strength but.... Just kidding, I was literally just doing a quick clean with a cotton ball and I got lazy and it snagged at the wrong angle. Total freak thing... oh well, thats life I guess.
  8. So this book managed to live its first nearly 50 years relatively unscathed, until I got my hands on it and managed to create a tear near the staple 😒 I tried to zoom in on it because its a little tough to see. Your thoughts on this one? thanks
  9. No, I bought it with the tear. I did clean and press it. I know what you mean though. I have a copy of Tomb Of Dracula that I cleaned with an absorene sponge and promptly created a 3 inch tear. Was a really nice copy until I decided to make it better. 😏
  10. Thoughts on this? Nice book with the main issue being the 1/2" tear on top staple. Just trying to see what effect that has on the grade? Thanks
  11. I bought it for a total of $10 shipped to my door, and when I received it i could not find a single thing wrong with it. Coupled with the fact that I really like the cover, I figured it would be a good one to slab that, even worse case, would only be invested about $40 in. I hadnt even considered the fact that it was an early direct copy until after the fact, so I just wanted to check if that meant anything...thanks
  12. Thanks for the input. I dont have any immediate desire to sell it and I certainly don't think it is some amazing unicorn of a book, I just figured there may not be too many out there. I still don't know if I would consider 18 9.8's a lot, given the census of other books in that number run, but I am still just learning this stuff and I am happy with the book 😀
  13. A lot compared to what? It's relative key importance? I only ask because, out of curiosity, I checked issue 145 and that had 28 9.8's and 147 had 21 9.8's. I would say 146 is more of a key than the owl and purple man appearances those issues contain, so it doesn't seem like 146 having 18 9.8's seems high, but I guess that is just a matter of relativity...
  14. Hello, I found this on ebay for a ridiculously great price and I submitted it and and the grade came back a 9.8!!! Anyways, it is not some major key (4th app of bullseye?) but does have a great Gil Kane cover. The census numbers are pretty low. Only 18 9.8's. What I also noticed is that it is a very early direct (whitman?) variant. I know newsstand is all the craze, and correct me if I am wrong, but a direct copy from this era is quite a bit less common than a newsstand right? I have read as low as 5% of total production. In any event, I figure that out of 18 9.8's, there are likely not many direct copies? Am I wrong in thinking I have a decent little rarity here or am I trying to will this thing into more than it really is? Thanks
  15. Thanks for the response. The right edge has not been cropped on the pic. Also, I too thought the area below Thing had stress along the spine because of the breaks in the black line but it is part of the art/production. I googled other images and they all have it like that.
  16. 1st Harry Osborne as Green Goblin. Just finished with a clean and press. Thanks
  17. I am trying to figure out what the deal is with the bottom right corner? It has a wierd cut to it that I am not sure is a production thing or after the fact? Might be hard to definitively answer that question, just looking to see if anyone has encountered something similar? It also has what appears to be a printers crease, which seems to be common for this book for some reason. As a result, I turn to you more experienced folks for a guess on the grade... Thanks
