  1. Got this really nice copy at my LCS for a sweet price. Take that, feebay! Price sticker is on the bag, duh. If there is one thing I can't abide, it's wavy bags. Forgot to replace them before taking pics.
  2. PGM Uncanny X-Men 266 (there are many like it, but this one is mine!) Soooooo...I had planned to post this before the other two copies were posted recently and I didn't wanna get left out. I feel bad about posting a third one of these, but have a question about the weird and potentially ugly registration issue on the top right corner of the FC. There is no damage there. It is just a printing error of some kind and the cover is very clean, flat, glossy, and the corner is sharp as a tac. There are two extremely small spine tics that I think qualify as color breaking and I've taken as close up a pic of them as I can. The book could use a press. There are a couple of minor finger bends. One on the front (it shows up in the general area of the two spine tics) and one on the BC. I'm still figuring out iphone photography, so the pages are definitely far whiter than they may appear in these photos. This is my personal book, picked it up at Megacon a few years ago, and am considering slabbing it but am happy keeping it raw as well since it is overall a pretty nice copy. If the registration thing is a big enough turn off, I might end up trading up for a nicer copy. Thanks in advance for any replies And sorry about the glare. I'm working on my lack of skillz
  3. So it is the raw pre-graded FMV after all? Do I got that right? Again doesn't matter with this particular book, but really good info to know for us CGC noob alerts.
  4. This seems pretty nuts. We have always had the cameo and the 1st full appearance in the actual story. So if I were to hypothetically have a poster depicting an "exciting new upcoming character!" would that dumb poster be the first appearance to some collectors? I'd say this will never catch on in a meaningful way, but that'd be putting too much faith in people in general. A fool and his money...
  5. OK that's how I understood it, but got confused when actually looking at filling out the form. I guess that makes sense.
  6. This is who I was looking at using, yes. I made an account on his site but decided to wait til I have more books to send. I'm going through my UXM run and pulling out a few that I think can be slabbed. I really dont wanna send one book.
  7. Thanks for replying. Marvel quality paper is a misnomer for sure. I was starting to lean toward not getting this one slabbed, but now I think I have to. I might wait until I have a stack to send in, though. Just doing one or two books is pretty brutal with shipping and no prescreen. I do have a question though, when choosing which grading tier, is the books value pre slabbed or slabbed? In the case of NYX 3 it doesnt' matter since even raw, especially in this grade, it is easily in mid 3 figures, but like with a book that is say $100 FMV raw but slabbed would put it several hundred dollars higher, does that mean I'd have to choose the < $200 grading tier?
  8. ya haha. I did my best to avoid glare in the pics but its so glossy I'm looking into getting a scanner le sigh
  9. I've only ever committed to being a completist for UXM. I inch closer all the time to finally finishing that, but when it comes to everything else I'm not sure I could handle it. I'm too easily distracted and like too many different things.
  10. Heyyyy thanks for this. Am also on this journey so always looking for more resources to help. I own a few variants, but only like two that I've spent more than cover price or cover price plus a couple bucks on. I don't go out of my way to buy them, normally, I do plan to pick up UXM variants as I complete my run.
  11. I want that X-23 cover. Guess I'll have to send my mom on a hunting trip in Florida for me
  12. Thanks for the reply. I think I'd like to get it pressed and submitted, but as I've never done it before I've got some board reading and googling to do. Might have to spring for a cgc membership upgrade, too.
  13. PGM NYX #3 Hi all! Let me know what you think. I don't have a scanner, unfortunately. So I made up for it hopefully with enough pics to get a decent idea of the grade. Thanks in advance. This is the copy from my pull list when the book came out. I'll probably part with it if it isn't worth slabbing as I want a slabbed copy. There is a very minor wrinkle on the top left FC that I can't get to show in pics, but shows when you hit it correctly with the light. It would need to be pressed out, I think. That's the only flaw not shown in the pics.
  14. Just say no to doubling up on comics per bag and board. I like my books to be snug sure, and maybe I treat my cheap-0 books way too nicely by bagging and boarding them as well, but seems like double stuffing bags is just asking for trouble
  15. Glad to hear this worked out for you. This book is one I'll be chasing for a long time as I try to complete my Uncanny run, and reading the whole thread gave ME anxiety. Can't imagine what you were going through dealing with a shoddy seller. Good luck finding a nice copy of X-men #1 !
  16. Hi all. My name is Charlie and this is the second time I'm writing one of these. Since I only made like 8 posts the first go around and haven't been on the boards in forever I figure it'd be ok to do it again. I've been reading comics since the late 80s and immediately latched on to the X-Men as my favorites. Iron Man has always been a close second. I may or may not have teared up when I watched the first X-Men film in the theater. It's been a lifelong goal of mine to complete a run of Uncanny vol. 1, and I'm down to the last 120 issues or so (or the first 120 issues or so? huzzah). I'll get there one day. I've been in and out of collecting over the years, still don't own a CGC book and plan to rectify that as soon as possible, and I liked the Deadpool movie way more than I thought I would and certainly way more than I like the comic book character (I don't like the comic book character. At all). I also don't know whether or not the period goes inside or outside the parenthesis if it is at the end of a sentence. I now live in NYC, so maybe there are some boardies in these parts to talk to. I really enjoy going to small comic book shows and super mega pop culture extravaganzas alike. I also really enjoy digging through garage sales and flea markets, but haven't really found a good way to do this or where is best to go since moving here. As for my collecting goals, hopes, and dreams other than my Uncanny quest, I don't really have any. I'm interested in collecting keys from the Silver age and up, and avoiding my collecting habit getting too out of hand, so...good luck to me with that And after browsing a couple pages in this thread, I see that almost no one writes this much so thanks for reading and see you all around the boards!
  17. Hello. Brand new noobie noob here. Just recently found this forum, and it didn't take long to figure out it's the spot to be. I got into comics in the late 80s, with anything X-Men and Iron Man being instant favorites of mine. I've been in and out of collecting ever since then. One project that I HAVE worked somewhat consistently on ever since I got my first issue of Uncanny as a kid is to own a complete run of volume 1. Maybe I'll do a journal on that quest. I've also decided recently to start the same project on Amazing Spider-Man and Iron Man. I've never purchased a CGC, or any other professionally graded, comic. I think maybe I'd like to, though. Thanks for reading!
