  1. I am surprised that no one else here mentioned that. I noticed that a few weeks ago an was thinking maybe MM will show up in Avengers vs X-men. Jamie McKelvie, who is the designer of the new look of the character & costume, said on twitter at the time that it's just a coincidental resemblance.
  2. I'm sure Rich would be happy to tell you anything you'd want to know. He might even still have some copies for all I know. http://www.bleedingcool.com/contact/
  3. Looks like they're not quite open yet but I want to get it in the thread while I'm thinking about it because it's a new treasure trove to explore for possible newsstand pics. The NYC Municiple Archives is about to release 1 million photos online, dating back to the 1880s. http://gothamist.com/2012/04/24/nyc_municipal_archives_releases_nea.php#photo-3
  4. Great book. As an S&K collector, I have a couple issues from this early part of the run and want to get them all eventually. Fun stuff.
  5. Nice. (thumbs u You've got a great 50s DC collection, Steve.
  6. Great books. For awhile I had planned to make 168 the endpoint of my Tec collection, but those really are very cool.
  7. Yeah, there is some cool stuff in the early 1950s part of the run, both Batman and Detective.
  8. Great book. Yeah, it's kind of amazing that we probably see more copies of 27-37 here than the rest of the run combined (not to mention Batman 2-up).
  9. Did anybody ever determine what that was, exactly? It wasn't a Jacquet copy so it was presumably from the Marvel offices? Was it from the same find as the books being discussed in the Timely thread awhile back?
  10. 121 fans will be pleased to hear that the character is getting a pretty high profile New 52 launch in the upcoming Batman Annual #1.
  11. It is a cool book. I don't recall seeing a pulp with color illos before. It really does have the look of a comic/pulp hybrid.
  12. Weird Science 11 was Jan/Feb 1952 Ah, of course. Thanks. Still, it's tempting to take this as confirmation that Marvel 1 Octobers were indeed sold in NY (none of the Octobers have publicly known provenance that I am aware of) based on the idea that comics probably moved around a lot less during that era. But you can't say that for certain here regardless of the exact date. Ah well. Still an endlessly fascinating photo. Thanks again jpepx for your tireless efforts in this area.
  13. So, more interestingly... is the seller's "pre-1950" estimate based on the methods and material used to make the photo I presume? Any other indicators this might be right?
  14. The pixels on the comics are larger than other pixels in the photo I think your right. No they're not. It just looks that way because the comics have more variation in contrast. I agree with this. In the enlarged version of the photo, look at the pixels in the boy's collar. Some of them look like that too. Looking at ebay, the seller specializes in vintage photographs and appears to sell quite a lot of them. To pull off a fake here (and not have the buyer neg you when he gets something different than what was shown) they'd have had to recreate an authentic looking and feeling vintage photo to sell as well. Seems like a lot of work with a high risk of getting called out on it. I'm sure there's a forum full of vintage photo experts out there similar to the level of expertise in this forum. I think it's legit.
