  1. Heh. I'm trying not to just say "WOW!" every time, but it's tough! These Marvel Mysteries from the past couple days in particular are unbelievable. The scans plus the table photo add up to what looks like a fantastic run.
  2. What a great idea. I'd be curious to know if you ever picked anything up this way. I also think advertising in farm journals / magazines is another clever idea for that time. I spent a lot of time going through many of my neighbor's & relatives stashes as a farmboy growing up in the 70's (though nothing earlier than mid-1950's comics, and always read to pieces). Ever buy anything interesting from a farmer?
  3. WOW. That's a nice table full of books.
  4. That would actually be a really cool idea, to open a shop in a building where you know they sold Action #1, Tec #27, etc. on the newsstand.
  5. Love the wraparound cover on that FT Parade #5.
  6. Nice low grade copy. I've always liked this book too and hope to grab an affordable low grade myself one day.
  7. Fantastic! Thanks for putting the Crash in there Bangzoom, much appreciated. What a collection!
  8. Jaw-dropping stuff as always, BZ. If you've got 'em, I'd love to see some Blue Bolt volume 1 and Crash Comics.
  9. This is awesome! Thanks for posting all this stuff.
  10. Well, imo that's a separate issue from having a good pic of it in circulation. In fact, you could certainly make a case that it's not a bad thing that he hasn't let too many people handle it. Even with experienced collectors, I'd be nervous about even the slightest bit of jostling (and an accumulation of such over time), let alone an accident of some kind. That brings to mind another thing though -- I'd be curious to know details about what sort of preservation and climate control measures the book is contained in. A regular mylar inside a climate controlled vault, or something more/different?
  11. Great group. I love that #3 cover, nice composition.
  12. Great looking book. I hope to own a copy someday down the road. Now, that's a really sharp looking copy of a really HTF book with just a gorgeous cover image. Just absolutely love the red and green colours on this cover Hard to find one of these in high grade. Would this be a pedigree copy or something since it looks really nice and has manage to retain the deep cover gloss?
  13. Wow, nice copy. First the Heritage copy and now this. I guess the publicity is starting to bring these to market (or is this a previously-known copy?).
  14. Thanks, guys. Anybody have an opinion on how tough Supes in the #50-#75 range are in general? I haven't been much of a GA DC collector, but I've heard that some of the late Golden Age stuff can be tougher than some of the earlier books. Seems like you see the 53 and the 76 fairly frequently on ebay, but I haven't paid much attention to the rest of the run in that range until now.
  15. My first GA Supes. I've always thought this was a cool book, and finally got one. I'm thinking about putting together a short run of GA Supes after I get some of my current collecting goals squared away. Looks like some pretty fun stuff.
  16. There is a wealth of info on this and related subjects on the comicart-l group. When I first discovered the group a year or so ago I spent quite a while browsing through old posts. There's not one post or group of posts I can point you to because it's scattered far and wide throughout that board's history, but if you start browsing through old posts you can come away with some idea of what the art collecting community considers to be probable regarding the existence (and/or current disposition in the marketplace) of important silver Marvel art. Just to throw out an example related to the topic at hand, I believe I saw one old thread detailing which Ditko ASM books had been broken up, whether pages had been on the market yet, etc. You've got to work your way through lots of posts and search around for artists/books that interest you, but for those who are interested in the mysteries of silver Marvel art, spending some time searching through that list is pretty much required reading. As far as I know, it's the best public source of info on the topic. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/comicart-l/
  17. Wow! That is a gorgeous copy. And a great cover too.
  18. Thanks! I'm thrilled to have them. They are my first pedigree books and I must say they live up to the collection's reputation to see them in person. Very fresh looking.
  19. Edgar Church copies of short lived Simon & Kirby title My Date issues #1-4. I got the #4 a few months ago, then on Sunday received the Christmas surprise of my life with the rest of the 4-issue series. I'm a big Simon & Kirby fan, and I've always wanted a Church book, so I'm very happy with these.
  20. I was struck by the statement that there were only 9 copies in existence. Did people ever really believe there were only 9 copies of Action #1? Years ago I had access to a near-complete run of Rocket's Blast, which was one of the major comic fanzines of that era. There were some articles on this sale or the Hamilton/Holstein sale, I can't remember which. Somewhere along the line, one of these transactions apparently got picked up by newspapers around the country (perhaps this $1800 sale) and it's my impression that publicity was one of the significant events in slowly starting to bring Action #1's and other big books out of the woodwork. The impression I got from the articles was that before the publicized sale, Action #1's were virtually unheard of on the market. This was discussed a little bit in one of Robert Beerbohm's threads: http://boards.collectors-society.com/sho...part=3&vc=1
  21. I'm very curious to learn more about this myself. I don't have my most recent Overstreet handy at the moment, I don't know if there's a listing or not. Tom Gordon of Gemstone mentioned it in Ian's "the DC collection is complete" thread (though Ian didn't have one, and it was unclear to me whether it could be considered a DC): http://boards.collectors-society.com/sho...art=40&vc=1 A quick google and a search of Heritage doesn't reveal much of anything. I take it from earlyaction's post that it may be some sort of Superman prototype?
