  1. Great book. I love late 40's / early 50's DC.
  2. Great book, have a low grade myself. As another Kirby collector it was the first GA tec I bought a couple years ago. Slowly picked up a few others since then.
  3. wow, GREAT copy! Always loved this book, I've got about a fine myself.
  4. In 1964 Ken Mitchell (a name most of you won't know I'll bet) had an editorial in his sales list that asked "Will there ever be a $200 comic book?" Do you happen to have a scan of that list with the editorial? I'd love to see that.
  5. I'd also be highly curious as to the interpretation on the Marvel 1 Oct Estate copy cover-only. The implication is that it is an unbound/uncut cover, similar to the mpfw 2-4 covers? Wasn't someone on ebay selling a file copy on which the cover didn't have staple holes awhile back? or something like that?
  6. Oh! Now THAT'S interesting. Would it be possible for someone to look into the Marvel Comics #1 October / November mystery? That aside, can/will the records be made public or put online, or is it considered confidential information?
  7. Nice group! What year is that Blue Bolt from?
  8. I haven't noticed any new DC Archive editions of Golden Age material in many months (with the possible exception of Spirit stuff), and I'm always on the lookout for that stuff. They were doing a new GA volume of SOMETHING nearly every month for awhile there. However, slightly offtopic -- someone on the Ditko/Kirby yahoo group pointed out something I know many of us have long been waiting for -- there's a reprint volume of the Simon & Kirby Sandman stuff on Amazon now, labeled as being available around June 2009. Based on the price of that, it's not an Archive (cheaper I think), but in any case I'm hoping this means they've decided what they're doing and getting back into collecting their GA material again.
  9. Since "Because they are better" isn't a good enough answer I guess we are going to have to do some research and get some scientists in here to give us a long dissertation on the relative merits of comparative paper compositions, ink degradation, and subliminal artistic implications. Until then I will go with..."Because they are better". Ha. Yeah... I'm starting to think it's those bright reds and yellows, for one thing. Combined with the fact that they don't seem to have faded / worn as much with age, some how. Makes the physical defects less obvious, perhaps.
  10. Is it just me, or is there something about Timely books that make them look better in a scan than similarly-graded DC books? I don't know if it's cover stock / gloss, the color palette used (those bright reds for example) or what. I first noticed this when Bedrock started posting his books, he's got some absolutely jaw-dropping stuff that in a lot of cases just looks better in the scan than the label would indicate, compared to other GA books.
  11. yeah, I've got my eye on that range too. what kind of guide multiple are they running these days?
  12. I agree as well, but it's kind of funny though... there are so many pre-Robin collectors here that I bet we've seen more copies of most Batman covers below 38 than we have of 38 itself. And this kind of thread typically brings people's copies out to show, too. Who's got one? Let's see 'em.
  13. Nice! I watch ebay for a few of these because I'm a Simon and Kirby collector. There are a handful of numbers in the 30's that come up fairly regularly, but many others, such as this one don't show up much if at all. Good get!
  14. There's something you don't see every day. Great cover.
