The thing I noticed was how old the collecting community is. When I used to go to the Shrine shows back in the early-mid 90s, the median age seemed to be about 30, this one seemed closer to 50, and 90% of the dealers seem at least that old as well. Makes me wonder if the hobby has legs, long run.

Most of the new collectors buy online,  go to SDCC/NYCC WE the early collectors remember how fun a true comic book show really is....so this is off their radar, which is great, seems like they need to get a bit bigger venue next year or more rooms, I will be going next year, see everybody there.

That wasn't my perception at all!

There are A LOT of younger collectors out there, and I felt like they were pretty well represented in Yorba Linda from my experience at the show. There's a very active community of younger collectors outside of these boards, and a lot of them were in that long line to get in.

With that said, I had an absolutely amazing time - it truly is the best comics-only show. I met a lot of awesome collectors (including boardies), both young and old :)

will dealers still be selling on sunday from 2pm on? i dont think i can make it before about that time. i know it says it goes to 5, but just want to see if people are starting to pack up their stuff early like at other shows. thanks.

For the most part, everyone is buying and selling til the very last minute.

This comiclink auction seems different than the norm to me, with lots of material that is not at the highest CGC grades.

The monthly "Focused" auctions have a mix of books, lots of mid-tier mixed in with some nice stuff in between. The "Featured" auctions happen quarterly (I think) and that's when they bring out the primo books. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

  4. Can't wait! Looks like it'll be a great show. If you see me, please say hi - I'll be easy to find in a black t-shirt with SHORTBOXED right across the front.

A couple folks already DM'd me about joining the post-con meetup at Triple Rock Brewery at 5:00pm. Everyone is welcome and you can come and go as you please - it'll be super casual. Drop me a comment or shoot a DM if you'd like to join so I can keep a rough headcount for the reservation. Cheers!

OK everybody arriving a day early, I reserved the room at the Ayers Hotel in Yorba Linda from 3:30 till 6:30 on Saturday night for a comics tail gate.

This means you can bring that box of comics you have laying around and try to sell them to each other or the dealers there.

The room isn't free so the plan is $10 per box up to three boxes pay Terry O'Neill  or Jamie Graham on the honor system.

tables and chairs will be provided bring you own food and drink. Please let me know in advance if you want to do this so I can figure the logistics.

This is especially good for those of you that have a few comics to sell but don't want to or can't get a dealer table for the main show.

Hope to see you all there

                                          Best Regards,

                                          Terry O'Neill

This is awesome! My buddy and I will be joining.

Afterwards, El Torito (right next to the hotel) at 7pm for margaritas!

  6. Looking forward to Saturday!

And just a reminder, we got a group reservation at Triple Rock Brewery just a couple blocks away from the con at 5:00pm. Open to any boardies who want to hang out after the con and grab some beers! Just drop a comment or DM me so I can keep a headcount and adjust the reservation, if necessary. Super casual, come and go as you please. Hopefully some of the dealers can make it after they break down, too!

Can't wait to see your hauls!

  7. Who's down to meet up after the con and grab some beers? We can show off our hauls and chat comics - would be great to meet more boardies in person.

I got a reservation for 8 people at Triple Rock Brewery at 5:00pm Sat 1/20, just a couple blocks away from the venue (see attached map). If considerably more people show up, then they said they can move us out to the patio, weather permitting. This is super casual and open to anyone who wants to hang out and grab beers after, you can come and go as you please. Drop a comment here or DM me if you want to join so I can keep an accurate headcount and increase the reservation or try to get the patio, if needed.

I'll be at the con wearing a SHORTBOXED t-shirt, so say hello if you see me.
