Rick is a straight shooter. He has bought lots of books from me at prices I was always happy with. He has resold some of them here. Sometimes he makes a small margin and some times he even loses money. I usually price my books at close to the lowest I can afford to take. I don't play the discount game much because of this. Rick like me, loves this stuff. We both have to sell and sacrifice to get other stuff. I am always happy when some one buys something from me and makes a little profit. Keeps 'em coming back for more. Rick is a guy you can trust to be square with you.
I think he often gets a little emotional and pays too much some times But that is up to him. Me, I just hoard away all my stuff. Rick enjoys it and passes it on to us. Deal with him and you will always leave happy!

Unless you know this guy pretty well be VERY careful. The picture you posted does not look like a 12K copy. Ask him point blank it it has had any work done to it.  Remember, if it's too good to be true, it usually is...
Since you seem to be a SA guy, I have to ask why all of a sudden you are considering a large GA key that you seem to now very little about?

As hard as it would be to pick my Favorite LB Cole cover, I would have to have it in the top five. I was lucky enough to get mine in a trade from local "old guy" collector. He wasn't to impressed with it. I really had my poker face on that day.

I love those old 1940 Superman puzzles. I have quite a few. I don't really seek them out but grab them when I can find them.
Bourbon just doesn't last long enough in my house to collect...

I think my Corliss Archer #1 is a Church. I bought it from Chuckie in the late 1970's. No markings or "smell" I can detect. So long ago I can't prove it. But if it were graded it would probably be the highest too. Love these Feldstein Foxes!

I'm sure there are others but this one is way up on the list... This one is also very disturbing. I read the story. The guy with the poker rounds up people off the streets and disfigures them. Look at all the others in the back ground. They are then forced to out on the streets like freaks and beg for money. They then bring it back to him. He gets his in the end though... Pulps just go to a whole other level sometimes.

Hey no problem. I didn't take any offense. I got what you say. I treat everyone with respect. Sometimes you got to stand tall and show you aren't intimated.
In high school, I probably looked like Charles Manson to some. I often hitch hiked or took the bus from middle/lower class Pasadena to skid row in downtown LA. There were all kinds of old used book stores, army surplus stores and thrift shops. Got a lot of cool stuff. I kept to myself and just "fit in" to observe the lets say "seedy" life.
I never felt in danger or threatened. I was probably a little crazy. But times have changed. I'm a smart guy now. I keep away from trouble.

I think what The Bunky Bros did was brilliant. I wasn't there but if I was, I'm sure I would have spent a TON of money in their booth by the way Doc Joe's photos looked. They are local so it wasn't as hard for them to bring affordable material for "the rest of us". For me to put up with that show I better go home with a stack of cool, fun stuff rather than blow it all on only a few books.
I used to save up a TON of money for that show so I am not a nickle/dime guy. But after looking at the prices in Doc's thread, I doubt I would have bought much. Also, the stuff I am looking for (Ace Comics, Speed, Catman, MLJ, Fox and other lessor publishers) looked to be in very short supply. And if they were there, I doubt I would pay the nosebleed prices that folks would have been asking.
I realize that most dealers travel across the country and have incredible expenses to set up here. Thus, you bring your best, at prices that reflect this. So what do people do? They scope the whole show then go back and buy a few books from a few select dealers. The rest of them miss this money. There are very few people spending 12 grand on a mid grade Phantom Lady #17 or Startling #49 (Metro). Granted, there are more than a few people where price is no object and that is what the dealers are counting on. If they don't come through, you write it off as a vacation and go home.
Me, there are MANY dealers there who never get my money at all. Not what I want, crazy prices, poor grading or just jerks to deal with. Then there are the other guys like Ritter, Bedrock, Jamie Graham, Terry, A-1, So Cal Comics, Bunky Bros and a few more I can't think of right now. That I gladly pull out my wallet and spend generously with. You gotta bring a little something for everyone at fair prices to have a sucessful show.

I'm with you Mitch. I went to the third one and attended every one except maybe two or three. I haven't been in about 3 years and I doubt I will ever go back. At least you live local and don't have to pay the outrageous hotel, food and parking fees. Yes, it is nothing like what it stated out to be and that is very sad. Times are different and things change. Hey EC's are no longer $3.00 each either. It sucks but that is change.
What I miss most is all the people and dealers I never get to see since I rarely travel out of state to cons any more. It just ain't worth the hassle or money it takes for me. There is still NOTHING like SDCC for the experience though. Everyone should go at least once. We are lucky we have gone over 40 times. I'm OK not going but I do really miss what it used to be.  But, people don't really care about anything us "oldsters" have to say. But we know how cool it was don't we Mitch?
Mitch in happier care free days...

Well today is a 5th Sunday and since I have no sellers to take advantage of and I got some time to kill before I watch my Dodgers hopefully sweep the Giants and knock the Astros further behind in being the best team in the ML...
OK, enough fishes and decapitation. A recent wonderful purchase from Ricksneat stuff inspired my next subset.
Boobie (uncovered boobies) covers. Most everyone love them. Surprising so many made it on to the covers of children's comic books but hey, sex sells. I know I have a couple more but just can't seem to find them right now. Probably Chesslers since Harry seemed to like them too. If anybody wants to try and find any I missed, please feel free to post 'em. But, no cheating, they gotta be real un-covered ones.

I don't know where you live but So Central LA is a TOUGH place. If you don't want to get shot at don't wear a blue or red shirt. Best you walk with confidence and watch your back. The real smart thing to do is stay away from there all together. In other areas of town your advice is well taken and I agree.
