  1. Speedcake is a great communicator who paid rapidly and let me know when he got the books. The whole transaction went very smoothly.
  2. One-time price drop. $200 for everything in this thread, plus shipping.
  3. If the person who purchases those in the post above wants the issues listed here, I’ll add them to the box for an extra $15 (plus the extra shipping fees): 251 VF 253 NM 254 NM 255 NM 256 NM 257 NM- 258 VF/NM 259 NM- 260 NM 261 VF/NM 274 NM 276 NM+ 279 NM+ 279 NM+ 280 NM 281 VF/NM 284 NM+
  4. Up for sale is a big lot of Amazing Spider-Man comics from the Copper age. These are all keys or semi-keys or issues that would be keys if people wanted them more. All issues are in a Golden Age mylites2 bag with full backing board. I prefer to ship Priority Mail. However, I can ship Media Mail if you want to cut down on shipping. Just be warned that the package might be inspected. I’m selling this entire lot for $240 plus shipping. Let’s start with the more key issues: 252: VF 265: NM 265: NM 265: NM+ 265: NM+ 265: NM+ 274: NM (newstand) 275: NM- (newstand) 280 NM+ (double cover) 289 NM+
  5. Anyone know enough about printing and paper stock to know what Image Comics uses? I'm curious if the paper is a gloss paper but uncoated. Or if it's a dull paper stock that uses a gloss varnish added. Or something else entirely.
  6. Selling a small lot of semi-key Spider-Man issues from the Copper Age. Sold as lot only. I've got back cover scans for anyone interested. Pay $25 shipped in the US. Media Mail only. More outside the US. The lot includes: Web of Spider-Man 1 (NM+) Web of Spider-Man 29 (NM+) Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man 90 (NM+) Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man 107, 108, and 109 (NM+)
  7. I'm waylaid with bronchitis, and I've grown a bit board. So how about a Adam Hughes question to get this thread back to the front page. If you had in the $400 to $500 range to spend on Hughes comics, either for your PC or for potential resale, how would you divvy up that money? Which issues would you go for? Would you buy one graded book in 9.8, or would you buy a "better" issue in 9.6? Or do you split up the money so you can buy several issues that haven't quite taken fire yet?
  8. Few random books for sale. As always, the trumps anything being discussed in messages. I only ship priority mail. Boxes, not envelopes. If you really, really want media mail, we can discuss it. But the local PO always checks media mail boxes, and I'm tired of the hassle. Up for sale are: Superman's Girlfriend Lois Lane #111. Nice looking copy. Let's call it NM-. ($10 plus shipping) Flash Gordon #6. Sharp copy. At least NM. ($20 plus shipping) Weird Worlds #4, John Carter #1, John Carter Annual 1. All NM or better, although the JC books look closer to NM+. ($10 plus shipping)
  9. Interesting that you would say this. I've been selling a lot lately, and I have too rearrange some comics in my boxes. While doing so, I found myself reinvigorated with the comics I already own. I didn't have much time to do it, but in the short time I had, I enjoyed comics more than I have in a long time. I look forward to setting aside an hour or so soon to get reacquainted with some of my favorite issues.
  10. This is a good point. Most moderns can be found pretty easily on eBay if you're patient. Heck, most times you don't even need to be patient. And yeah, I've got plenty of raw, NM+ comics that I like as much as my 9.8 slabbed books. Seems like the only reason to have a 9.8 is to make it easier on yourself when you're ready to sell.
  11. You insinuate that someone is ignorant for not being as invested with the history of ASM issues as you are. Classic post.
  12. I won't toss them. If nothing else, I'd give them out to local kids. I just don't want to wade through 100 issues and attempt selling them individually if the best one is a $5 comic. They're all NM or better. Most of them are unread.
  13. I've never actually searched 9.6 copies on GPA. Wonder if the upticks in values trend upward at the same time the 9.8 counterparts do. I assume so, but I also assume the upward trend isn't as prominent.
  14. So I'm downstairs working when I hear my wife yell down to me, "Santa's here." I'm like, what the heck is she talking about? I walk upstairs to find another box from Dwayne. I should've known. It's a smaller box than what he's sent before, but for the first time in my life, I've learned that size doesn't matter. Look at these beauties. I'm a huge fan of Hughes, so those two are going right into my PC. The Spider-Man comic is all ages, so my son will dig the heck out of it I bet (we were just talking about the character this morning, so great timing). Meanwhile, there's the X-Men and Avengers. What the what? Heck yeah! I've been reading the X-Men and Avengers Epic Collection reprints, starting at issue 1, and now I can't wait to get to issues 48 and 101!!!
  15. You know, I've been wondering about this type of thing. I loooove making lists, scouring eBay and other sites, reading sites about this or that comic series. It's all part of the fun. But the actual comic isn't the end all for me. Not the way it used to be, anyway. It's almost like a photo of my copy is more cool than the actual comic. But maybe that's just because it's easier to see and enjoy.
  16. Oooh, Warlord. Nice. How far along are you? Got any pics?
  17. I've been selling off a bunch of my comics lately. When I do buy a book, it feels like I get the book and immediately put it in a box, rarely to be seen again. It's (almost) to the point in which it feels like I'm just crossing items off my want list and little else. As if it's the checking of that box, checking it off the list, that's the fun part these days. Is this a fairly common phenomenon? I've been incredibly introspective lately, and as I enter what might be my midlife drama period, I'm wondering if this is just part of growth, or if this is a sign that the end is near for my collecting. The thrill of the hunt is still alive and kicking, but the actual ownership of a particular book I've hunted isn't what it was was.
  18. When I was heavy into collecting moderns about a decade ago, 9.8 copies were all the rage. Anything less than 9.8 for a modern (at least graded copies) weren't sought after in the slightest. Has a graded 9.6 book risen at all in esteem? I assume that for random issues, it's still 9.8 or bust. But what about keys or semi-keys or even cool covers? Are 9.6 copies more acceptable to the collecting community these days?
  19. If you've got extras of anything, let me know. I'm finally getting to the point in which I want to be organized. Maybe you can help fill in some gaps.
  20. Absolutely fantastic. It's a coming of age story. A little teen romance, a little teen angst. Well done is an understatement. With that said, it's not for everyone.
  21. You know, I've tried eBay for NM+ copies, and man, even with big images and descriptions, I find that I'm unhappy with the final result. And while the graded books are certainly more expensive, I find that I'd rather buy the graded book and save my time. I used to enjoy tracking down comics, hitting comic shops, etc., but now, I'm finding that my time is better spent elsewhere. But, at the same time, I am itching to increase my number of raw Hughes comics, so maybe I'll dive in again.
  22. This is similar to where I am. I sold my collection off before I moved, and have been collecting him again over the last couple of years, focusing on pre-slabbed 9.8. So it's been slow and costly. Now, however, I'm at a sort of crossroads. There's some expensive books out there, and I'm debating if my love for Hughes is more powerful than my love of having money in my pocket.
  23. What are your thoughts on the staying power of Hughes covers? I'll check eBay from time to time, focusing on 9.8 sales, and it seems like prices for his books are inching up pretty consistently. There are still random price points, where you'll see the same issue sell for $40 on month and $90 the next. But overall, the prices for random issues are higher than they were several years ago, and the bigger covers (i.e. the ones with cleavage) seem to be commanding good money (or at least, their asking prices seem strong). Think his prices will even out or drop some as the completists secure their want lists, or will we continue to see prices move up as more Hughes collectors try to collect 'em all?
  24. Looks like there are a handful of books here. That'll keep me from just tossing them all out.
