  1. Please check my tally and Excel's math (I've decided to double my initial contribution), but I dare say this was a roaring success! As we see, our final leaderboard is: 1 - @BuscemasAvengers 2 - @buddy2 3 - @SkOw Dinner is in a few minutes, so I will start sending pm's in earnest after I've eaten. But for now a couple notes: - The pm donation I received was requested to go straight to Best Friends, so that member donated directly. I will post that receipt shortly. - I will cover the round up of our remaining $1,320.99 to $1,322, meaning both charities will receive $661. What an incredible effort, I'm absolutely thrilled and incredibly grateful with how this thread went! - @BuscemasAvengers, its your pick! Let us all know which book you'd like!
  2. Well folks, with buddy2's contribution and a pm I received, we now have a tie atop the leaderboard: buddy2 and the pm'er are both at $225 SkOw is in third at $203. I'm in the midst of trying to drum up a creative tie breaker for if we do end up with any ties.
  3. We've entered the final hour all. Right now our tally sits at $1,072.99. Could me make it to...$1250 maybe??? That’s my 100 lb little buddy’s thinking face.
  4. @Math Teacher - first off, I'd take out the political reference from your last post, or it will probably go poof. Second, that offer to put a false value declaration on the book...yes, I'm sure people do it and get away with it all the time, but...18 U.S. Code § 542 - Entry of goods by means of false statements | U.S. Code | US Law | LII / Legal Information Institute (cornell.edu) I'd bag this one.
  5. As we approach kickoff time for the early slate, let's update our tally: With our new additions in this thread and a PM I received, we are currently sitting at $971.99. My friends, I had no idea what to expect when I kicked this off initially, and the fact that we're on the verge of 4 figures is just incredible! Our leaderboard is also due an update: #1 - The pm I received was for $200. Assuming that sticks in the top three, I will tag that member after the thread closes per the rules I laid out. #2 - BuscemasAvengers #3 - SkOw
  6. A “we’re under 24 hours” bump. Who says cats and dogs can’t get along? They had a weight differential of about 105 pounds but would still regularly snuggle up. As of now, our total and leaderboard remains the same. Hopefully we can run it a bit higher between now and SNF!
  7. If you have to tap your 401(k) to pay for $512 worth of comics...well, your priorities are plain screwed up.
  8. Full disclosure up front - @Nic8612 and I have an excellent past transaction in the books, and I would happily deal with him again any time. I read GG’s thread last night and could certainly see how he felt slighted as nic’s enthusiastic verbiage could be seen as conveying next level enthusiasm for the book in question. I’ve certainly been there too - years ago I cut someone I once trusted a good deal on a couple books because they were (allegedly) going in the forever collection...only for them to be flipped a few months later. Haven’t talked to that individual since. However, given the additional context nic offered today and re-reading the pm exchange that GG posted, this looks to me more like a situation of two interpretations of the same set of words. When I think of hucksterism, I think of the typical eBay lowball message - “what’s your best price for a comic loving military vet?”, “I have SUCH a bond with this issue because my dearly departed grandpa read it to me every Thursday...”, etc. nic didn’t really do that. Excitement, yes. “The joys of my childhood will now live in eternity”...not so much. I can’t imagine there will be an amicable resolution to this for either party, which is a shame, but it happens. My only little bit of advice would be this - nic, going all Dylan on the boards never ends well. Best to say your piece and move on since most folks will draw their own conclusions from the facts, not the added emotions.
  9. Another 24ish in the books, no change from yesterday. Anyone out there who is viewing but still on the fence...how do you say no to this face? And her mask was even darker when she was a puppy.
  10. My old buddy Tank woke up when he heard that the books in jb's thread sold, bringing our total up to $601.99 after 48 hours. Unfortunately I haven't been able to own any ferrets for several years due to my wife's substantial allergies to them. Have you ever put on a jacket, picked up one of your pet ferrets, let him lay on the jacket sleeve real quick, driven 25 minutes, had your significant other slightly brush her arm on that same sleeve, and see her arm immediately break out? Because I have. Never would have believed it was possible if I didn't see it happen in real time. Our top three up to this point remains SkOw, Funnybooks, and comcav. Folks, you have a chance to beat the takebot for a change!
  11. @jbpez has graciously offered up a book in this thread -- -- proceeds of which will be added to our total here!
  12. The first 24ish hours are in the books, and we're currently at a total of $451.99. This is awesome. Top three (yes three, I haven't had a chance to post the details of @wombat's book donation yet) are SkOW, Funnybooks, and takebot. And since I'm really enjoying the pet photos, I'll join in. Unfortunately we lost our kitty cat to cancer in January, but here she is in better times, preventing me from reading my book...
  13. The GCFA usually sends an email thank you within a day or two, and I will post that here as well once received. Thank you email was received on 12/20 and is posted on page 4, I accidentally quoted instead of editing.
  14. Here is our first receipt to Best Friends. I left it anonymous for now as that was specified in the rules, but I will check if the member would like to be tagged in this post. And here's the receipt for our cumulative donation! All money we've raised is officially out the door and to the animals And our thank you email from Best Friends:
  15. And the winner of the Strange Tales 105 pictured below is @buddy2! While the winner of the X-Men 100 pictured below is @BuscemasAvengers! Courtesy of @wombat, we have a third entry into the prize pool! The winner is … I mean Mr. @SkOw !!
