  1. The McFarlane Black/White Batman showed up today. I quite like it. Looks great on the shelf.
  2. Really got interested when Mr. Giella (I think it was around the 46 minute mark) was about to get into the art as art. Not sure if this is a direction this particular group of panelists wants to go, but I would be super interested to hear analysis/critique/etc about this stuff as art and not just a bunch of nostalgia. If we think this stuff will be hanging in museums, let's hear why from a critical perspective. Just a friendly suggestion, enjoy the stories too.
  3. With a small personal collection (less than 10 pieces), there aren't a lot of threads where I can participate. But I can in this one! This is from Grant Morrison's Batman RIP arc where Bats bench presses 600lbs of loose soil to emerge from the coffin. Good stuff. As far as Tony Daniel being over/under rated...I don't know. I've only seen a few pieces that I'd spring for, but when he's on it's pretty good.
  4. Commission for me. Recreations don't hold any appeal to me. Not very interesting.
  5. Thank goodness for the search function, very handy. It's more fun going through booths in person. Didn't see anything I had to have, but was a very fun diversion from the current state of things, so cheers to all the organizers and participants.
  6. This is awesome! And timely. I am just reading Venditti and Hitch's Hawkman trade from the past couple years. Just got through volume 1 and am really excited in how they're reconciling Hawkman's sometimes opaque history. Coincidentally made a purchase request for one of Hitch's covers
  7. This is great, thank you for taking the time. I feel there is a demand for this kind of content and also think it helps perpetuate the hobby. It's great to hear these stories and have better context/perspective. I know I'm jazzed up to go buy something!
  8. I'm basically graphic novel/trade only, but I do try to stay aware of stories being made in real time with the intent of not missing out on nice art as it becomes available.
  9. Yeah, I'd imagine there are bidders out there who are under the impression all 60 will be covers. The "head shots" he's posted so far, in my opinion, are pretty fantastic in their own right and I could see them published. At any rate, hope they still go for a ton to help the shops.
  10. I saw it on the Cyborg sketch on Instagram. Someone asked if the head shots are going to be covers as well and he replied, "no, unlikely".
  11. Interesting wrinkle/clarification from Jim on the socials that the head sketches are unlikely to be published covers.
  12. Pre ordered this today. Something about it really spoke to me.
  13. Love the other works, especially the "Peace" piece.
  14. I don't know anything about any of this thread, but that splash reminds me of Christina's World by Wyeth. Could be because I just watched something on YouTube about that piece...
  15. Nicola Scott is great, I see a lot of joy in her work. She was running a pretty good sale between Christmas and New Year, but I had just splurged on two pages so was unable to take advantage. Good things.
  16. Good thread. I won a page from WW: Dead Earth; my first win with Felix. I hadn't read the book, but loved the art and character (same story with Silver Surfer Black, Thanos Wins, etc but I didn't win a page from any of those books). I called my LCS and they had one last copy of Dead Earth #1 left. It's sitting on my bedside table alongside the SS: Black treasury edition. SS Black trade is super nice, very unique in that it was printed in a large format...I think like 13" x 9". It's gorgeous. Really wish I had a page.
  17. Yeah, I agree. It's not hiding. I'm pretty open and out there (ie, I have my own website and am pretty easy to track down), but my screen name also has meaning to me and I've employed it for so long it's sort of a part of my identity. But, I certainly understand what is meant by using the phrase "hiding" with a negative connotation due to bad actors doing nasty things. Just understand that not everyone should be lumped into that same pool.
  18. I'm a huge Lord of the Rings fan and about 15 years ago I was fortunate enough to have a good friend in grad school at Marquette University who arranged a private viewing of Tolkien's original manuscripts. I imagine most here know that Marquette holds a huge Tolkien collection of original manuscripts. Unreal experience, very emotional, to hold the same paper he held while drafting that amazing story. Among my small group of Tolkien enthusiasts was a guy who studied Elvish and translated my name (Justin) into 'Andahaion'. No idea as to its accuracy, but there you go.
  19. Not from the sale, got it a few weeks prior. It's from a run I really like of Aquaman with Geoff Johns. Cover to #24 in the New 52 era.
  20. I recently picked up an Aquaman cover of his (my first Pelletier piece). Really presents well in person despite it being only his pencils. This penciled cover was also published as a variant, which I think speaks well to his ability with graphite. Good stuff and quite affordable. He's now on my radar.
  21. Yes. My first purchase from him was an offer on a mid/upper four figures page. No idea how long he had it, maybe a few years. No issues. He replied with a simple “offer accepted” and the rest was smooth.
  22. Good stuff. I'm just now going through that run. Mann seems underrated, I really like his style.
