  1. I take back what I just wrote about his ink work, that is very very nice.
  2. There's of course unlimited examples that I would not consider art but someone out there does. I can't say they are wrong. My wife and I had this discussion travelling through Central America as she picked up an oil painting from a roadside vendor (a guy selling out of the back of his pickup truck) for the cost of a Starbucks visit. It was a beautiful painting and my wife remarked about some of my comic art that I had bought and sold basically saying art valuations are nonsensical. I of course had to agree. I wonder how difficult it is for a comic artist to make that transition into fine art. While I have not been a fan of Jason Shawn Alexander's work in comics, I love his non-comic stuff. There seems to be interest in his gallery exhibitions http://www.101exhibit.com/artists/jason-shawn-alexander#works as well. Another artist I really enjoy that I believe rates to make that transition into fine art is Sean Phillips. I'm not always very keen on his ink work but I love his painted covers.
  3. Grails are many but only one true for you.
  4. Wow, years ago, I had a Man With No Name blank sketch cover with WANTED printed at the top. Romita SR sketched and inked Clint Eastwoods likeness on it. I remember thinking this was the perfect book for Eastwood to sign but dismissed it as impossible.
  5. Really enjoyed it, great atmosphere. Neo-noir with a 70s vibe.
  6. There is a large amount of fan-made Maxx art on deviantart.com and I wanted to share two great examples. John Gallagher dholms
  7. Small world, I miss that one. I also sold the SS Blue 9.8.
  8. It would have been nice to have met you Likewise, we'll see what next year brings.
  9. I believe it's one of the finest examples of a comic coming to life. Page to screen translation was flawless. Sam was at the helm and the voice acting was incredible. The only way to improve upon it would be to remaster it into an HD widescreen version. There were also several early CG shots that could stand a modern makeover.
  10. Thanks for that, wish I could have been there.
  11. I think I just missed my only opportunity to ever meet Sam Kieth. Disappointing since it sounds like he's a very cool yet humble guy. I hope other fans here had the opportunity to see him in Boston. Please share your experience.
  12. The large gallery edition (while complete) is more to just enjoy the original art at the original size with all the notes. It's certainly the next best thing to actually having the OA. For reading purposes, I'd stick with the Absolute or Deluxe.
  13. Absolutely. And that's a fantastic looking set its in.
  14. Only had time for the first episode and loved it. Especially the John Carpenter-esque synth score. Nailed it for my nostalgia fix.
  15. Looking forward to it, will catch them tomorrow.
  16. A series set in the 80's that's looks like a Sci-Fi Stand By Me. I'm there.
  17. Absolute Ronin arrived safe and sound from the other side of the blue marble. Many thanks, this book will be enjoyed by many.
  18. I know IDW is releasing three softcover trades called Maxxed Out which will have the whole run with extras.
  19. I've read a lot of hate on Snyder with this but he didn't really write the story did he? I figured he just directed the film. I could be wrong. Either way I don't care. There's a good line in the movie The Edge: "Never feel sorry for a man who owns a plane." The main complaint I'm hearing is convoluted storyline so I think I'm fortunate that the directors cut will be my first viewing of this. You can't cut a four-hour movie down without sacrificing some plot. Not that there are any surprises from what I've read, just a mash-up of DKR and Death of Supes storylines. I preordered the extended R cut on Amazon and will run it through my HD projector at home. May not be IMAX but I can watch it without pants.
  20. My wife and daughters just saw it and reported in. Wife liked it but my two girls did not. That is all.
  21. * In GOTG, Ronan was challenged to a dance off by Starlord. * In Ant Man, the family had a pet giant ant at the end of that movie. * Iron Man's costume is falling apart in Iron Man III and played for laughs. * It's been a while, but didn't Iron Man III also end with Tony using his extra suits to make fireworks or something silly like that? Maybe that was Iron Man II... I'm sure I can find other examples, but those are 4 just off the top of my head. Kid friendly is a better way to describe Marvel movies. I take my kids and we all usually enjoy them but they are forgettable to me. I prefer comic films like Watchmen, Nolans trilogy, Dredd, Man of Steel, The Crow (original only), but you get the idea. I am really looking forward to Civil War though as Winter Soldier is one of the few Marvel movies I'll rewatch.
  22. My pleasure Doug, thanks again.
  23. Well said. I'm loving much of his exaggerated "grotesque" art as much as I enjoyed his clean, fluid works in the past. There is no doubt about his ability and accomplishments and I think you need to reach those levels before breaking the rules.
