  1. No problem, happy to help! Now, I just need to temper my enthusiasm so I can still hope to have some funds left for the early ones.
  2. I've been a lot happier reader since I started the "build your own canon" philosophy. If I read it and enjoyed it, then it fit in my own version of what's canon. If it conflicts with something else, oh well... As as for a collector, wouldn't they both be important, as at one time they were each the definitive version?
  3. I held off on reading Low for a while due to an initial opinion of Tocchini's art from a DC superhero book from a while back that was a complete mis-match for his style...Ion, maybe...or Infinity, Inc...I can't remember. I'm glad I took another look however, as this title I find perfectly matches his style. Yeah, it can be confusing at times, but I just chalk that up to living underwater and roll with it. This is one of those books that I usually go back and thumb through after the initial read to appreciate the artwork again.
  4. Here's an interesting one. Not exactly Silver Age, but he gets grandfathered in with his first appearance. Metallo. First appearance in Action Comics #252 (over-shadowed by Supergirl, naturally) in May of 1959. Second appearance in Superman #310 in April of 1977...18 years later! Two thoughts popped up as a result... 1) What other characters out there have a decades long wait for their second appearance. Groot was the only one to come to mind so far. 2) There were so many (so, so many) one-off villains with a shtick back in the 50's, 60's, and 70's. I wonder how many other undiscovered gems are out there waiting to be resurrected.
  5. Back To The Past is one to keep an eye on, as they hold 3-4 auctions a month that usually have some good stuff. Definitely worth hitting their website or proxibid listings to see if they have anything scheduled during your visit. They had a barn-burner of an auction that was chock full of golden and silver age Batman books at the end of the year, but I haven't seen what's on tap for March yet. www.gobacktothepast.com https://www.proxibid.com/aspr/Back-To-The-Past-Collectibles/4531/AuctionsByCompany.asp?ahid=4531
  6. It's posts like this that make the new forum upgrade worth it. In the old days, these post would cause the font size to become subatomic in size and become unreadable.
  7. This wasn't my LCS of choice, but I'd always swing by a couple of times a month. I vividly remember walking into their adult section to buy Preacher #1 when it came out.
  8. Nice! I don't think I've ever seen that cover before.
  9. I'm finally in the club! This one has been on my radar for about a year and a half, but the perfect storm of price/condition/available funds hadn't hit until this month. Thanks to fellow boardie, Mio, for the sale! Now on to the next key...either Adv #210 or 247.
  10. Strong result for a solid 6.5 AC252 at $5400. I'm sure the off-white pages helped, and it sure looked pretty to boot. AC252 CGC 6.5 For a book that maybe looked like it was cooling a little after the TV show hype, I'd definitely be happy if I was the seller.
  11. I'll take it. I've been looking for a 5.5 to bookend my AC242 5.5, but I can't pass this one up.
  12. For me, it's the ever elusive Action Comics #252 where the perfect storm of condition, price, and availability all line up correctly. I sold and saved enough this year, but every day that goes by without pulling the trigger sees the comic book funds get nickled and dimed away with other books. Granted, they're still other books I need, but I want my #252!
  13. Huge thanks to Steve for putting the SOTI's up for sale, and major kudo's for being a generous and philanthropic soul as well. Got it in the mail yesterday and couldn't be happier! Thanks again!
  14. I agree, and couldn't think of a more representative Bronze Age Supes book. I was at an auction recently and watched two bidders go toe-to-toe over a raw NM- copy that ended at $455! That was a crazy outlier price for a raw copy of that book. Granted, as a Superman fan and collector it was nice to see the excitement, but damn...
