  1. Since you were so kind as to throw up DD's 2nd appearance, how about we take a look at Electro's 2nd appearance as well...
  2. ...and here's one with the character actually on the cover! Bizarro* from July 1959 * Technically this is the 1st appearance of Bizarro #1, but it's the second appearance of the Bizarro concept! So you get a 2-for-1 with this book.
  3. While everyone can appreciate a good 1st appearance, the cool cats know that 2nd appearances are where the fun is really at! Bring forth your favorite 2nd appearances for us to enjoy... How about Brainiac to start us off from May 1960...
  4. I'm guessing Abraham gets the bat. I was shocked when he came to peace with his place in the world a few episodes back that the didn't bite it (or get bit) by the end of the episode. I still think they can wring some more drama out of Morgan, not so sure about Abraham at this point.
  5. I think she is getting a new number 1. Who isn't, these days...
  6. So I finally had some spare time to flip through a few collections that I acquired over the last year in more detail, and came across this gem I had completely forgotten about... With female super-heroes all the rage right now, this one was a blast to thumb through and read! And I love those vintage costumes. The bonus surprise for me was reading the Merry, Girl of 1,000 Gimmicks story. My son loves the Batman Brave and the Bold comics from the cartoon of the same name. His favorite story involves what happens during a regular week of Batman's life, where he teams up with a different hero each day. One of the days, he teams up with Merry. I had always assumed that she was a one-off Batman character from the silver age, but it turns out she was the Star-Spangled Kid's adopted kid sister, dating back to 1949! That's the great thing about comics, as soon as you think you know it all, it turns out there's something new to discover.
  7. I usually don't have too much luck at garage sales, but was pleasantly surprised this weekend. I was excited to find a few mid-run Suicide Squad issues to fill in some holes in my collection, and just as a lark picked up 2 Detective Comics 100-Pagers for a buck each as I figured there would be plenty of cool reprint stories to read. Lo and behold, I picked up the 2nd appearance of Simonson's Manhunter and the 1st appearance of Harvey Bullock!
  8. No... lived through the early 90's era so I still have all of my OO X-books from that time period, so I wasn't your competition. I didn't study the X-Factor #6 beforehand, but it appeared to be a pretty nice copy just from glancing at it. I mostly collect older Superman books these days, so those are the books I was there for. It was a good night for the house though, as they had a buying crowd show up. Normally, I can walk away with twice as many Superman books for about what I paid for what I got. Andy (who runs the store and the auctions) is a solid seller and stand-up guy. As his auctions are starting to attract a little more attention, the true bargains are getting harder to find. It sounds like has quite the barn-burner of an auction coming up in November, especially if you're an ASM collector.
  9. Yeah, someone sneaked upon me but that winner will have to pay 15% buyer's premium. Probably, the winner has to pay the sales tax onsite. I was not there but I set my maximum bid online. Another on-line bidder won it, so yeah, there will be another 15% premium added on. There were two disappointed bidders in the back of the room who were each looking to snag this copy for $300 max, and a bunch of other attendees murmuring that is was time to bring their copies up for sale after the hammer fell on this one! It was definitely a sharp looking copy.
  10. I was at a comic book auction last night and saw a raw NM/M copy sell for $460! Crazy...
  11. One of my customers cancelled their meeting at the last minute, so I was able to take a trip a little farther south in my territory than I normally do and stopped at an antique mall I've never been to before. I found these three books for $1 each... I collect the Superman family titles and DC bronze age oddities, so I'll definitely have to bring donuts to my appt that cancelled the next time I see him to say thanks! First Warlord! And it was one of the two issues I needed to complete the 1st Issue Special run. It's a little rough around the edges, but good enough for me. The 1st Justice Society in their Adventure Comics run has been proving elusive to me lately, so I was very pleased to see this in the wild in decent shape for cover price. And of course, being one issue closer to completing my Lois Lane run makes me happy any day of the week!
  12. Boy oh boy...1968 was a rough year to be around Superman. If he wasn't killing random strangers at the beginning of the year... ...he was endangering or just plain murdering his closest friends... ...to finally offing Batman as his trek to the dark side is complete!!
  13. No matter how long I've been collecting, and more specifically, how long I've been collecting the Superman family of books, I still get surprised with seeing a cover for the first time. That's one of the things that makes it fun collecting the Superman titles...between the sheer volume of books published and the relative scarcity of the golden and early silver age stuff, there's always something new that I haven't been exposed to before! Great cover! Thanks for posting.
  14. I haven't seen much action in my neck of the woods at estate sales recently, so I was cautiously optimistic when I saw what looked like a healthy stack of late 50's and early 60's DC, Archies, and a few Marvels in the advertisement. I showed up at around 7:30am (doors opened at 10am) and I was number 17 on the list. Luckily for me, they let the first 20 people in at once, so I was right there. Luckily again, the comics were spread out so the 2 or 3 other comics guys that were also there each got their own stack to look through without too many "overreach" shenanigans. Nothing really high grade, mostly solid VG's and a few F's...and priced very reasonably for the most part. I missed out on the few early TTA and TOS books, but I'm mostly a DC guy anyway, so I couldn't get too upset. Here's what I ended up scoring... Nothing too high-grade for my Superman collection, but I did fill a few holes and pick up a nice reader copy of Superboy #86. The real find for me, was the Showcase #35 with the 2nd appearance of The Atom! The bonus was that this was one of the nicest books that they had that I came across. I tell you though, if there's an Adventures of Bob Hope collector out there, you would've had a field day here. All in all, a sale well worth getting up early for!
  15. I was rebagging some books this weekend and came across this book from "The Kubert Collection" that I'd completely forgot about Aside from some cover wear, this book is in great shape, so I'm not sure how many times a young Andy or Adam thumbed through this issue. I bought this book at Motor City Comic Con sometime in the early 2000's, and really not sure how legit the COA is as I'm sure I could probably print something just as "authentic looking". Either way, I didn't pay anywhere close to FMV for it and it's a neat little oddity.
  16. a grand total of 12 copies sold on eBay since it's release fifty five hours ago... From the 24 possible listings on eBay and the fact that midtown and tfaw are all out, I think that's pretty good. The fact that comic collectors number in the hundreds thousand & Star Wars collectors number in the millions is enough for me... Yeah, if you're a speculator and not buying the Marvel Star Wars series, you're not very bright. In 2-3 years when this is on issue 70 and the movies are making a billion+, issues 1-10 will be in demand. And if not, you're out 100 bucks or so. And still got to read some pretty good books. Because they are good books. This is Marvel we're talking about. There's no chance this book makes it to issue #70 without getting relaunched threefold. I'm honestly shocked it's not getting a new #1 when Immonen comes aboard.
  17. I've seen so many bad Stan Lee sig's lately, maybe it's all a nefarious plot to open a new line of collectibles to see who can get the most ridiculous looking sig on the mint-iest of books?
  18. Thanks for the killer books! They fit great into my collection. Great price, and graded accurately and shipped quickly!!

  20. Ordered a couple of books and they showed up quickly and well packaged. Couldn't ask for much better! Thanks!
  21. Just got my books from Sam today. Packaged like a champ! Great transaction and Sam couldn't have been nicer in helping this newbie with buying books from the forum. Thanks again!
  22. I just found out one of these stores popped up in my area and found some good things for a buck a piece... Early Deadpool appearances in Nomad and Silver Sable Last issue of Warlock & The Infinity Watch Uncanny X-Men Annual #14 Definitely worth checking out if you have one in the area.
  23. Thanks for the info! All signs point to the copy that I picked up for $5 last year in gorgeous condition is a first print!! Yea for me!!
  24. So I can assume if there's no mention of what printing it is, than it would be a first printing?
