  1. it's hard to give a grade without a close up scan of the front and back cover. Assuming that corner is the only defect and you want at least a 7.0-7.5, you shouldn't worry... This dent isn't enough to drop it below VF- If the rest of the book were flawless, you could expect maybe a 9.2
  2. that's a good deal. I agree with the above grades.. 1.0
  3. To the OP, you're sort of SOL when it comes to being a seller on eBay. You're best bet is to do what Kav suggested Explain that the sides do open up slightly with this generation of CGC slabs and offer to take the book back. Don't forget to smile about it as you take it back
  4. sorry for your loss on the plus side, it could have been way worse why not donate the damaged books to a library or a school?
  5. darn - sorry to hear about this... this is my worst fear when selling books online. I hope it's found or at least you're compensated somehow
  6. I'm working to acquire this book from an original owner I'm concerned about the rippling on the front cover, but pretty confident it would press out Your opinions are appreciated Pls post 2 grades - as is and after press Thanks PS - these are the scans he sent me. They were originally PDF files converted through imgur (so they aren't best quality, but that's all I have)
  7. it's already splitting hairs when you get into super high grade. How many more ways can a hair be split? Even OSPG only goes up to 9.2/nm-
  8. When I sent an offer and he rejected it, he referenced that X-Men 1 can be worth $50-60k. at this point I knew I wasn't getting my hands on that copy
  9. The difference between 9.4 and 9.6 or 9.6 and 9.8 is already fairly negligible... imaging the difference between a 9.5 and 9.6
  10. - some of the books in the lot are awesome; no doubt about it. That's the reason I don't want to let this go... By over-the-moon-amazing I was referring to books so rare or keys so big and in such great shape that they'd be featured in a Heritage auction.
  11. My plan would be to flip most of them and keep some of the ones I don't have, or replace existing books I have with ones in better shape. Good idea on making a deal to sell them for a %
  12. Great points guys. Thanks for all your input. As mentioned, the answer I was looking for has been typed here more than once. Most appreciated! You're exactly right - he won't accept it..
  13. I think this is what it'll end up being - it's too bad, but I've already invested some time educating him and being really upfront and honest. Nothing in the lot is over the moon amazing, but there is an X-Men 1, 4 (FN+ shape), DD 1, 7, early ASM (including a 5,9,14,50,101,129), WWBN 32, FF 48, 52 I'll give it one last kick at the can and offer my price, as suggested here, and then walk away and move on to bigger and better things.
  14. I feel he was a collector when he acquired them years ago, and he's more of a seller now. He's an older guy in his 70's not only does he want collector prices, but he wants top dollar collector prices. I've gone and tried to educate him on the grades; even sitting down with him and going through a small stack of books - giving each book a grade, a reason, and then looking up the value in OSPG - still to no avail.
  15. I wouldn't send it in.. what if it came back a 9.1?
  16. Don't worry about the staple - i have a UX 266 with a similar staple and it's a 9.8 maybe it's a common flaw for the issue and isn't counted against the grade. as for your book, i'd say 9.0 - maybe 9.2 after a press if it doesn't break too much colour
  17. I've been negotiating with an original owner for a comic lot of about 120 Silver and Copper Age books. I've hand picked the 120 so they aren't drek. They'll all raws, in conditions that range from VG- to FN. He's had them for years and doesn't really know anything about grading or market prices, etc. Unfortunately, you know you have a long road to climb when he's got an X-Men 1 in VG- and he quoting CGC 9.2 prices. He wants to sell, but he thinks they're worth a fortune and negotiations have gone nowhere. He's also unwilling to give an asking price. Instead, he keeps asking me to make an offer - which is something I absolutely detest that sellers do. Following offers he rejects them, saying that the price is too low, but there's no counter offer given. My strategy has been to use OSPG as a reference and then negotiate the price (or a percentage) off guide price. I figured the OSPG is objective and unbiased. Something that he would feel comfortable with. There are some great books in the lot and I'd hate to walk away - so aside from the obvious answer: WALK AWAY, what are some comic book negotiation strategies I can use here?
