  1. Yep, did get lucky on the hulk 181, but 180 & 182 were cut. Apparently Shanna came out earlier in another book?
  2. I like that this one has a number. I'm pretty sure there are some without #'s floating around. First real collection I ever bought had one of these and I was super excited until about 1/2 way home I realized he probably cut the stamps out of the books I just bought.
  3. are you saying there isn't a 529 account already? If that's the case put it on the falcons. I wouldn't worry about it.
  4. what do you guys think a 8.5 slab OW/W of SW 1 would sell for today? 9.0 recently went for around 10k and last 8.5 sale was Nov 2015 (right before the movie) for $7200. to confuse matters, 9.0s sold around movie time in 2015 for 14 & 16k I'm just wondering if 50% of the 9.0 price is normal or did someone get a good deal back in 2015 on the 8.5
  5. Picked this up the other day goofing around on ebay. The "5" looked strange in the scan but I pulled the trigger anyway. Its a fake, but a 1/2 decent one. Figured I'd share to let you guys know. I've been out of variant game for awhile so not sure if this has been going on before? How did they do this? The fakes I've seen they actually cut the price and seal from inside. This one is like they washed the cover somehow and transferred the image. The price is way too dark. Thoughts? [
  6. Yea I noticed that it said something about servicemen. Were they just put in issues for military subscribers then? My understanding is these were shipped directly to overseas military bases. Correct. They were never available within the US. I collect spidey ND & MJ inserts and I've heard 1st hand accounts of these issues being available at PX's within the US. I tend to believe this as they are way too common to only have been available overseas and then somehow make it back to states. Has anyone physically seen an Amazing Spider-Man #96 with a ND insert? I have heard that was the first possible issue of spidey but I have never seen one. I have found 2 copies of 97. As far as I'm aware, it was only overseas and here's Jim's site with all the details... http://www.awe4one.com/NDS-MJ%20Inserts/Insert%20webpage.html Right, I'm aware of this theory. I wish I paid more attention throughout the years of collections I've purchased. We have 2 big Air Force bases close to Atlanta and I find ND & MJ inserts all over the place (still today) I swear I've had people tell me these were available at local PX not just overseas. There just seems to be too many of them to be exclusive to overseas. More likely that the books were bought overseas but made their way back to specific areas with redeployment. (thumbs u I disagree. Space is a premium and most servicemen probably didn't care enough to ship home. Even when I was in the service guys very rarely shipped anything home. mycomicshop.com (Lonestar) seems to think they were distributed in US as its listed in all of their MJ descriptions. Its an interesting topic and I still believe these books will have a day in the sun. Although most collectors are probably still unaware they even exist.

  8. Aren't those 52 pagers? Typically you don't see the inserts in anything other than standard comics. Could be wrong though. DC books are typically a little tougher to find with inserts than Marvel.

  10. October 14th 1973 -- spidey 128 or 129? I have a 164 with oct 14 on it.
  11. I have about 30 boxes of sets I was going to put on fee bay over the next few months. Mostly DC, and indie stuff. Some great stuff as I've culled out most of the junk. Nothing newer than Jan 2003 though. Would it help anyone out to post this kind of stuff on the cheap
  12. wish i saw it Here it is. Thought it would go for a little more $200+ One of my favorite covers... ASM 238 double cover
  13. Did anyone here win that asm 238 double cover that ended recently on ebay? That book looked sweet!
  14. Not for sale anywhere yet, I've been recruited to help price. Still waiting on pics. Usually I just send double covers to Joe. But I've never ran across a key before, so I thought there may be a little more play on this one. Just trying to help a shopowner out.
  15. The prices paid for double covers has really changed over the last few years, so it is hard to tell. When I bought my double cover Hulk 180 (woo hoo!) there was gijoed and maybe 1 or 2 others collecting off of eBay. Now there seems to be a much larger crowd that are going for them. I really have no idea, but I doubt you would see any where near 10x. The formula seems more like 4x + $15 for the prices. Thanks for the info. Yeah on one hand I think $400 is a little pricey, but it definitely wouldn't surprise me either. I've seen a lot worse on other oddities. What kind of shape is your 180 in? And you beat Joe in a bidding war? Congrats
  16. I have a question for the double cover crowd... I was wondering if key books in lower/mid grade would command a larger premium over a non-key. Lets say you had a nice VG Hulk 179 that would bring about $25 right? That's about 10x guide What about the same shape for a 180? Same multiple? Any sales examples for this or similar books?
  17. Wow! Wow is right! Fake? I got this email from gijoed today. On 3/20, I bought a Web of Spider-Man 85 with four covers from a different ebay seller (320228044596). I left pos feedback for him, but on closer examination I believe this book also has married covers and is not an error. The seller is willing to give me a refund, which is nice, and I am shipping the book back today. The seller has sold a second 4X of Web of Spider-Man 85 to a different ebay buyer, and now has two triple covers and another quad cover listed on ebay. He said he got a box of comics at a garage sale, although the odds of finding 3 quad covers and 2 triple covers in one box seems astounding to me. I have five quad covers in my collection which are the results of 30+ years of searching. One of those quad covers is probably my Defenders 51 I found. That's how I started talking with Joe. You cannot mistake quad covers as the book is a lot heavier than normal. That's the only reason I even took it out of the bag. A vg copy that maybe made it to F+ by the time you got to the last cover. Kind of funny. I found a Green Lantern silver age double cover last week. I'll post a pic later this week/weekend.
  18. As promised/requested I would post findings on here before they get shipped up to gi joe land. Not much to report, but still a ton of books to go through.... Found a 70s Archie comic in decent shape. Any board members interested, shoot me a PM. Forgot exact title (I'm at work), but its a 2nd tier title like Joke book. I'll try and add a pic later tonight.
  19. my God man, you have way too much time on your hands! I finally finished going through all the boxes. No more Miracleman 15's. I've been pricing and grading while playing online poker. Its actually helped my game as I don't play anywhere near as many hands. Now time to sell HOT books How many boxes can I bring you in Charlotte?
  20. No, I didn't know. I am assuming all issue are the same right? This was several months after they changed the price so Marvel really messed up. I'm guessing yes, but hoping for NO Just going through more of bronze store stock. I thought I found a variant at first, but quickly realized no. I don't know my 30 centers as well as 35's Anyone else have a copy that can verify? I only had 1 in the box.
  21. Anyone ever noticed how Weird Wonder Tales 21 has a cover price of 30 cents , but 25 cents on the indica?
  22. I think you've vastly overestimated the frequency of double cover books. I think it's closer to one in 1,000/1,500. Now, I'm not talking about moderns here, just BA, SA and GA. Does anyone think that the QC at the printing plants is better today than in the past? Hey MoonDog, Good seeing you at Wizard World Chicago last year. Looking forward to next year already. Yes I agree my numbers are only valid for a specific store stock that has been sitting for the last 20 years. Further filtered by the fact that I'm only checking on bronze age books that were not bagged. I didn't mean for those numbers to be taken as a general rule. And yes I think (my opinion) that 1 or a combination of the following in going on in printing plants today 1. QC or technology in general is better so less are produced 2. smaller print runs compared to 60s & 70s 3. nobody ever checks the darn things anyway since they are essentially worthless
  23. Yeah if I remember right it wasn't it the best of shape. I think a little H2O damage. But its still a double cover
  24. Yes I've known Terry for years (when I found 200+ 35 centers). Terry still has (at least I hope he does) the double cover 35 cent variant that I wish I never listed on ebay. No x-titles in stock right now, but have sent an x-men 41 (1st series) to Joe in one of the last batches. And I think it was about 3 or 4 VCC ago, I listed about 40 double covers (mostly silver age) and with the exception of about 7-8 that sold to someone in NY the rest went to Joe. So while I hear what your saying, I found that Joe will take them all (the good, bad, and ugly) and thus have gotten into the habit of selling direct. But I'll try to keep you guys in the loop......
