  1. "Dad: “Fra-gee-lay” …it must be Italian! Mom: I think that says “fragile”, honey. Dad: Oh, yeah"
  2. You must be referring to the "RARE Newsstand Edition" that sold on October 2. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Ren-Stimpy-Show-1-CGC-9-8-NM-MT-Wp-Marvel-Comics-1992-RARE-Newsstand-Edition/392446204755?hash=item5b5f9ddb53:g:l1AAAOSwzBBdh-l3 The LAST copy of Ren And Stimpy #1 sold was for $5.00 on October 28. https://www.ebay.com/sch/3980/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=ren+and+stimpy+1&LH_Sold=1&LH_Complete=1 Even MCS does not have any listed over $5.20. https://www.mycomicshop.com/search?TID=92831 Ultimately, it is your book and your decision.
  3. Ren And Stimpy #1 in high grade is selling for $5.00 on eBay. If your reason for wanting to have it graded is to resell later on then as you can see that is not prudent, however... If you are looking to just protect the book then a Mylite with an Acid Free Board will protect as well as a CGC Holder. If you are looking to display the book this is a great alternative, https://www.bcwsupplies.com/comic-book-showcase-current-uv I just recently purchased 3 for my 3 copies of Marvel Comics #1000 (Lovin the artwork) so they could be displayed and I highly recommend them if that is indeed what you are looking to do.
  4. If you are looking for accurate grading on eBay I would recommend taking a look at https://www.ebay.com/str/comics4less Every 4 month's I track eBay sold auctions for my key books and whenever I see a listing from comics4Less I disregard that sold auction only because they are extremely strict on their grading and it seems that almost 100% of the time the book they have graded is graded at least 1 point below what it actually is, If they say the book is a FN/VF 7.0 the book is at least a VF 8.0.
  5. Depending on what you have you can also contact local dealers near you, keys could get you 30% of FMV and non keys with high cover prices (.75 cent and up) will only get you pennies on the dollar, but if you are looking for a quick turnover...
  6. Very Nice Well Loved Copy. Even with the interior tears I concur... 2.0 GOOD (GD): Back to TopShows substantial wear; often considered a "reading copy." Cover shows significant wear and may even be detached. Cover reflectivity is low and in some cases completely absent. Book-length creases and dimples may be present. Rounded corners are more common. Moderate soiling, staining, discoloration and foxing may be present. The largest piece allowed missing from the front or back cover is usually a 1/2" triangle or a 1/4" square, although some Silver Age books such as 1960s Marvels have had the price corner box clipped from the top left front cover and may be considered Good if they would otherwise have graded higher. Tape and other forms of amateur repair are common in Silver Age and older books. Spine roll is likely. May have up to a 2" spine split. Staples may be degraded, replaced or missing. Moderate staple tears and stress lines may be present, as well as rust migration. Paper is brown but not brittle. Centerfold may be loose or detached. Moderate interior tears may be present.
  7. Not sophisticated is what I LOVE about Gold/Silver books and why I enjoy collecting/reading them. When I need to unwind I want a book/tv show that entertains/relaxes me but one that I do not have to think to hard about to follow what is going on, that to me is not relaxing, Gold/Silver Comic Books and TV Sitcoms, sit back, relax and enjoy.
  8. When I was a kid back in the 60's and I saw this book/cover for the first time I said "WOW!!!!", all of those villains/characters in one book and the cover is Amazing!!! One of my favorite All Time Covers and this book is a Gem in any grade. IMO this "Well Loved Book" is a... 2.0 GOOD (GD): Back to TopShows substantial wear; often considered a "reading copy." 9. Nice Book!!! The piece missing from the lower right corner on the back cover IMO keeps this from being a VG 4.0 so... 3.0 GOOD/VERY GOOD (GD/VG): Back to TopA used comic book showing some substantial wear. Cover shows significant wear, and may be loose or even detached at one staple. Cover reflectivity is very low. Can have a book-length crease and/or dimples. Corners may be blunted or even rounded. Discoloration, fading, foxing, and even minor to moderate soiling is allowed. A triangle from 1/4" to 1/2" can be missing out of the corner or edge; a missing 1/8" to 1/4" square is also acceptable. Tape and other amateur repair may be present. Moderate spine roll likely. May have a spine split of anywhere from 1" to 1-1/2". Staples may be rusted or replaced. Minor to moderate staple tears and moderate stress lines may be present, as well as some rust migration. Paper is brown but not brittle. Centerfold may be loose or detached at one staple. Minor to moderate interior tears may be present.
  10. 5.0 VERY GOOD/FINE (VG/FN): Back to TopAn above-average but well used comic book. An accumulation of bindery/printing defects is allowed. Minor to moderate cover wear apparent, with minor to moderate creases and/or dimples. Inks have moderate to low reflectivity. Blunted corners are increasingly common, as is minor to moderate staining, discoloration, and/or foxing. Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present. A minor to moderate spine roll is allowed. A spine split of up to 1/2" may be present. Staples may show minor discoloration. Minor staple tears and minor stress lines may also be present, as well as minor rust migration. Paper is tan to brown with no signs of brittleness. Centerfold may be loose. Minor interior tears may also be present.
  11. IMO the bindery defect will not affect the grade, the large crease by the lower spine IMO keeps this book from being a VG 4.0 but it appears to be nicer than a GD/VG 3.0 so... VG- 3.5
  12. With the book on the left I see a couple of small spine ticks with color break and a slightly wavy cover but the rest of the book looks very clean/nice, IMO... 9.0 VERY FINE/NEAR MINT (VF/NM): Back to TopNearly perfect with outstanding eye appeal. A limited number of bindery/printing defects are allowed. Cover is almost flat with almost imperceptible wear. Inks are bright with slightly diminished reflectivity. An 1/8" bend is allowed if color is not broken. Corners are cut square and sharp with ever-so-slight blunting permitted but no creases. Several lightly penciled, stamped or inked arrival dates are acceptable. Very minor foxing. Spine is tight and flat. Staples may show some discoloration. Only the slightest staple tears are allowed. A very minor accumulation of stress lines may be present if they are nearly imperceptible. Paper is off-white to cream and supple. Very minor interior tears may be present. I am not going to offer a grade for the book on the right since I do not know if it is a bindery defect or it has been trimmed. Compare the inside pages to the other book, do they appear to have to same margins and only the cover is not cut correctly?
  13. I put Everything in Mylites, together we have 4000 books in Mylites with Acid Free Boards. Do not know why we have a What If #10, was probably a dollar box find that looked like a good read from years back. Most books are 80's, 90's with other issues from 79 -84 (which is technically Bronze) so this seemed like the right spot. When I got back into collecting in 79 I started buying/reading new books at the time and when my Son decided to start collecting when he got out of the Navy in 99 I gave him all of those newer books I had and he continued the runs from there while I concentrated on Marvel Silver. Now that is the kind of stuff I was looking for with this thread. ASM 316 is going up so I will keep an eye on that and add that to the top books list, ours is graded (by me) at FN/VF 7.0. I have no idea when or how he is going to sell his books but I am the "expert" here so they will be looking to me for grading and pricing info.
  14. Very Nice Copy, Fairly Sharp Corners, Clean Staples, Book is Flat, Back Cover is Very Clean, only because of the stress lines on the spine I cannot bring myself to go higher... FN+ 6.5
  15. On the bottom pic... Is that a tear at the staple and is that a tear or crease under the staple?
  16. Nice Collection Do you have a pic of the Avengers 4 with the book open to the pages in question? The other books I noticed that could be considered for CGC grading... ASM 28 depending on the condition, hard to find in grade with the Black Cover. Daredevil 1, Doctor Strange 169, F.F. Annual 1, Iron Man #1, JIM 109 and 112, Silver Surfer 4, Strange Tales 135, And just for sentimental reasons, these were the books that got me into Marvel back in 65, F.F. 25 and 26.
  17. These book are totally organized by title and number in 16 short boxes that are labeled with what is in there, all books have been in Mylites with Acid Free Boards, some for over 30 years. A lot of these book were bought brand new by me and were a part of my collection for years before giving them to my Son when he got into collecting.
  18. I cannot give an honest grade, there are not any decent close up pics of the front cover spine/staple area. In your first pic the book on the right has either a bindery defect or has been trimmed...??? I can tell you that I graded our raw copy of DD 168 @ NM- 9.2 and that book in that condition is currently (Prices are from eBay sold auction sales) is $130.00.
  19. When grading a book the grade depends on the overall condition of the book. In this case if you are correct and the book is a VF 8.0 with 1/4 of the back cover missing I would assume if sent to CGC you would get a Green Qualified Label which grades the book as if the defect was not there but the defect would be noted on the label. If you were to grade this book as is I would think you could expect at least a 2 point drop for a defect that serious. Remainder Copies that have the top 1/4 - 1/3 of the front cover missing are generally graded as a PR 0.5 - FR 1.0 regardless of the condition of the rest of the book, they are not as harsh on the back cover but how harsh are they??? Depending on what your plans are for the book, remainder copies and copies such as yours are ways to get keys or more expensive books for your collection at a much lower price, if the story is still intact that is what is important to me.
  20. Now I am just going to sit back, watch, listen and enjoy as you guys talk about what a "Richard" I am.
  21. Actually after talking to him this past weekend he reiterated to me that I told him to expect $1200.00, he stated he wants $2000.00. If only we could get 30% Under FMV, that would mean i would be getting 70% OF FMV and I was only looking to get 30% OF FMV which we were very close on with the top 35.
  22. There are 2000 + books in 16 short boxes and I did look to see what was key/hot right now. I looked thoroughly through MCS's website at the prices that they listed for each book (excluding consignment books), took the books that looked to have increased in value or are higher than I would have expected and then checked all of those books against eBay sold auctions to see if those prices were accurate, so to say I want to be spoon fed or that I am lazy and expect others to do the legwork is entirely incorrect. The fact is when the dealer came out he mentioned two other books we had that were "hot right now" due to movies that may/will be released in the future, I would have had no clue or even considered that What If 10 is hot and that is the issue/question, I am not exposed to the current market like a dealer so... Since the majority of "current hot books" are all movie related I will Google which movies are or may be coming out, find out what characters are being portrayed and look to see if he has the first appearances or the beginning of the said storyline.
