  1. There are four other books that were published in July 1964 which I do not have, maybe some board members have these books and can tell you if it has the ad page as seen in ASM 14. Kid Colt Outlaw 117, Millie The Model 121, Sgt. Fury And His Howling Commandos 8, Two Gun Kid 70
  2. There were 12 books published by Marvel in July 1964, of the 12 I have 7 including ASM 14. (ASM 14, Avengers 6, F.F. 28, JIM 106, TOS 55, TTA 57, X-Men 6) All except X-Men 6 have the three page ad you have shown,TOS 55 and TTA 57 has an ad for F.F.28 and ASM 14, however, the ad is not in the same spot as the ad in ASM 14 and the other books have ads for different issues not located on the 3 page ad. The other books have different ads/letter pages/etc on the 3 page ad. Hope This Helps. AVENGERS 6 THREE PAGE AD TALES OF SUSPENSE 55 THREE PAGE AD FANTASTIC FOUR 28 JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY 106 TALES OF SUSPENSE 55 TALES TO ASTONISH 57 X-MEN 6
  3. I cannot answer you question on pressing, however, I can give you my opinion on a grade. From what I see on the front cover pic you posted is... Small amount of spine stress lines with color break, wrinkled top edge, a small piece missing from the front edge under the CCA label, without being able to see more of the book I would say you are in the FN 6.0 range. With the piece missing from the rear cover lower left corner that will drop the grade, how much???, it would be much worse if it were on the front cover. I do not know if that book would come back with a Green Qualified Label or Blue Universal Label.
  4. IMO, with only a pic of the front cover, that book is a GD- 1.8 (too many little pieces missing by the spine to be a GD 2.0, IMO). Grading depends on what your plans are for the book, do you plan to sell the book or are you going to keep the book, want to be able to read/touch the book but preserve the book. When it comes to Archival Storage a CGC slab does not offer any more protection than a 2 Mil Mylite and Acid Free Board, both need to stored in the proper conditions away from all light and heat sources in a controlled temp/humidity environment. On eBay, on Jan. 5 a book in similar condition to yours sold for $314.91, on the same day a CGC GD 2.0 sold for $456.76.
  5. No, that piece missing by itself would not bring the grade to a PR 0.5. When a book is graded the books overall condition is taken into consideration. If the book in question was to be sent to CGC for grading with that piece missing from an interior page the book would probably receive a "Green Qualified Label" meaning it would be graded as if the piece was not missing and a notation on the label would specify, "Piece missing from page 16/17. affects story". My suggestion would be to open a thread in the "Hey Buddy, Can You Spare a Grade" section with pics of the cover (front and back), close ups of the spine/edges/corners, the splash page/inside front cover, centerfold, page 16/17 with the missing piece to get an overall grade for the book. In the meantime... https://comics.ha.com/tutorial/comics-grading.s?show=comicdefinitions https://www.cgccomics.com/comic-grading/labels/

  7. First let me say, I have no issues with MCS, I used to buy from them years ago and I was very happy with the books and service, they are a business looking to make money so they can ask any price for any item, however, saying that their current prices are = to FMV...???, (If what books are actually selling for = FMV) We can agree to disagree on this although I have what I consider to be Black and White proof. My Son is selling his books, I took the keys, graded them and priced them. ( about 300 books, All Raw) The list of books for sale that I made for us has two prices, eBay sold auction prices (same grade as our books, I scan their pics and judge the grade for myself, using the most current auction prices, a minimum of 5 bidders, being sure there was no bidding war, etc) and what online comic shops are asking for the same books in the same grade, using prices from MCS (not their consignment books which IMO are Stupidly Ridiculous) and Metropolis, MCS is not even close on most, $200 + difference on ASM 300 VF+ 7.5. My initial asking price is the average of the MCS/Metropolis price and I usually have a lot of wiggle room since on most listings MCS is 50% - 100% higher than eBay sold auction prices. Either way, the OP has been given a few choices as to how to determine the value of his books, eBay, Overstreet, MCS and other online comic stores, his LCS, etc, hopefully his question has been answered to his satisfaction.
  8. MCS for sale prices are extremely high (they undergrade but charge the next grade up price) and the prices they are paying are low compared to FMV. eBay sold listings are IMO, a true reflection of FMV at this time as long as you only look at auction prices that had numerous bidders and where the price was not inflated due to a bidding war. If you are only looking for a "General Idea" of value there is always the old fallback...The Overstreet Price Guide. And Do Not Forget...You need to look for books in the same grade as yours.
  9. According to Overstreet you are correct, and MCS is incorrect. There was a Gold 2nd print (unbagged) with Spidey's head in the UPC box and a Gold 2nd print (unbagged) with a Barcode in the UPC box intended for sale at Walmart. (Supposedly a very low print run)
  10. I do understand the OP's question now, there was a polybagged version of the "Gold 2nd Printing". After reading the descriptions it sounds like the Gold Direct Version and the Gold Polybagged are the same book other than one being bagged. I seriously doubt there is any difference in value, if you send the polybagged version to CGC to be graded it will be removed from the polybag to be graded and placed in the slab without the bag and there will not be any mention that it was polybagged. Here are the descriptions from mycomicshop.com. Spider-Man (1990) #1GOLDP Polybagged edition. 2nd Printing, Black Cover with Gold Webbing. 2nd Printing, (Spidey's head in UPC box. This is NOT bar-code version). Cover price $1.75. Spider-Man (1990) #1GOLD 2nd Printing, Black Cover with Gold Webbing. 2nd Printing, (Spidey's head in UPC box. This is NOT bar-code version). Cover price $1.75. Spider-Man (1990) #1GOLD.UPC Gold 2nd printing with newsstand UPC code. Low print run. Todd McFarlane story, cover, and art. "Torment" part 1 of 5. Cover price $1.75.
  11. Welcome To The Boards Why would you think they are fake?
  12. Welcome To The Boards... From what I have read there were more issues in the series from Marvel UK because they decided that instead of just reprinting the original US title as it was originally printed they would add filler stories to each issue and stretch out the title longer, of course for more sales. http://starlogged.blogspot.com/2012/04/1985-marvel-super-heroes-secret-wars-uk.html http://starlogged.blogspot.com/2012/04/marvel-super-heroes-secret-wars-uk.html
  13. You do realize that by time you reach my age your origin story will be "cool", and of course it will be 40 years later so in your mind it will have been an exciting time for you and your retelling of the story will reflect that. Remember, old guys that tell old stories only remember the good parts and someday you will be an old guy with an old story...
  14. To make it short and sweet (which cannot really be done with 42,000 books)... Books need to be sorted by title (alphabetical) then placed in numerical order in whatever you use for comic storage with the boxes all being labeled as to what titles/numbers are in each box. Once that is done make a quick list of what you have in titles, IE: Amazing Spider-Man 1 - 441 Annuals 1- 27, Avengers 1- 200, etc. Once you are organized then you can start grading/valuing the key books, (without an estimated grade you cannot determine a value) you can place stickers on the back of the bags/mylites showing the grade/value for that book. Me, I graded all 2000 of my books back in 2015, took pics of all of them with the grade and made a list of each individual book, its grade and any notes about the book, took me 6 month's, the pics/list is stored on my computer and two separate flashdrives in a 42 page PDF, however 2000 books is a far cry from 42,000... Good Luck on whatever you choose to do.
  15. Unfortunately for me OCD = Mylites/Acid Free Boards/Comic Storage Boxes which = Neat and Organized.
  16. And a PITA at times... My Son sarcastically thanks me all the time for his OCD and I tell him that it we as a family are proof that OCD is a genetic trait, my Mom has it, her Dad (my Grandfather) had it my Daughter and Sister have their own OCD demons and two of my Grandsons have OCD tendencies, who knows how far back this goes, they just did call it anxiety/OCD back then. Now that I am older and see what it does/did to me I understand why my Grandfather was always raising his voice and being grumpy and miserable all the time, he was living with constant anxiety, I lived that until anti-depressants came along which made me somewhat bearable to be around but only keep you "balanced", anxiety still flares at certain moments. Thanks for letting me Rant/Vent.
  17. HEY!!! I also have OCD so don't leave me out. My collection (2000 books) is all Raw (except one CGC graded book) and have grades ranging from PR 0.5 to NM 9.4, and none of that bothers me, what used to bother me was incomplete runs, the majority are completed and with the prices going up and up on the books I need and me getting older I have learned to live with those runs being incomplete. I still have OCD with other things, in a year I have yet to complete an entire season in MLB The Show 19 because if I am winning too easily or getting clobbered and I change skill levels I feel like I am cheating and need to start over, even using Dynamic Difficulty that levels up/down on how well you are playing. And of course the normal OCD issues..."Everything has a place and there is a place for everything", I cannot leave the house if the bed is not made, dishes are not done and of course I cannot have anything pending. And of course I would be remiss if I did not Thank Pfizer Pharmaceuticals and my Primary Care Physician for keeping me "somewhat" balanced.
  18. I bought 3 of the BCW UV Protected Showcase Frames and I am quite pleased with them. I bought them to display 3 of the Marvel Comics #1000 books because I like the artwork, the original cover and two 1960's variant covers.
  19. I still have the three albums with all of the cards, it was only 12 extra cards that got thrown out. Did the OP get his question answered to his satisfaction or did we get off subject???
  20. Do not read this if you are squeamish... When I retired I could no longer afford the apartment I was in (for 32 years) so we decided I would move in with my Son and his family and space was limited, even storage space and in my naivety I thought I would be there forever living happily ever after so a lot of my things got thrown out figuring I would no longer need them, such as dishes, pots/pans, kitchen utensils, my bed, couch etc and unfortunately some collectibles like posters, framed puzzles, extra cards not in binders were thrown out. Needless to say that did not work out (we determined I cannot live with anybody) and I am now in a smaller place and would not have had room anyway so...
  21. I had extra MVC first appearance cards in a frame hanging on my wall above my loose action figures, unfortunately I was not able to bring them or any posters in frames when I moved into a smaller place.
  22. I hear you, for me it became addicting just like collecting baseball cards when I was a kid in the 60's, I wanted more and more, had to have them NOW until I got them all, unfortunately since I am a collector with OCD I could not keep the doubles/triples I had (except the Holograms and they are in the binders), I cannot be a pack rat so who I gave them to???
  23. Sorry for your loss. Just so you know, Transformers 1,issues 74 -79(low print runs) and issue 80 may be worth grading depending on the grade of your books, my Transformers #1 Raw NM 9.4 is selling for about $90.00 on eBay, CGC Graded NM 9.4? You may want to look at eBay sold auctions to see what raw copies are selling for vs. CGC graded books in the same grade.
  24. I own the first three volumes/series of Marvel Trading Cards and all of the Hologram Cards from the early 90's, bought them all new, had to buy tons of packs to get them all and they are all in the Official Marvel Binders that you had to send away for. Your AF 15 MVC card is from Series 1. Unfortunately I have no idea about value, I never looked but as already stated, eBay final sales are the best place to go to see FMV, I did find this link...just remember that just like anything else grade/demand/print run, etc are everything as far as a black and white value is concerned. https://www.collectors.com/trading-cards/marvel-marvel-universe/41489
