  1. Creasing on the edges/corners and slight staple tears but overall a nice copy. VG/FN 5.0
  2. We will agree to disagree and I am sorry you feel that way, lets move on and forget I even asked...Case Closed.
  3. Yes there is another thread that was opened first and nobody actually answered the question of "Do We Have A Whats Hot, Whats Not Section?", the thread turned into a debate about my Son's method of selling and what he can expect to sell his books for which I have had enough of, they did however direct me to the Sub-Forums so here I am, so again... Can Anybody Tell Me Which Marvel Books From The 80's/90's Are Hot Right Now? If nobody wants to or is not able to answer that question without straying from the subject then I will say Thanks to all that responded and we will consider this topic closed.
  4. $16.00 https://comics.gocollect.com/guide/view/967710
  5. Again... This thread was about which books are hot right now. $1200.00 is a price I told him he could expect, he did not come up with that number, I came up with that number by assuming 30% of FMV for the keys and .30 cents per book for the remaining which consists of $5, $10, $15 books as well as 25 cent fillers so rather than grade and price each book individually I "ballparked" an average price and now that is what he expects. A lot of these books (McFarlane ASM's, Miller D.D's, Secret Wars 1-12 , Transformers 1-80, X-Men 94-150 just to name a few) I have already graded, photographed and cataloged, I graded the books I felt had value back in 2015 when I graded mine. I have no idea what his plans are for the collection or how he plans on selling the books or where he is going to try to sell them or how he is going to sell them, he just sold all of his other collectibles (NASCAR Stuff, Garbage Pail Kids Cards) and my HO train collection and other things at a yard sale and got almost $500.00 so he feels he can sell these himself and get what he feels is the right price. I am the one that wants to know what books are in the collection that may be "hot" right now so if he is going to sell them individually he has an idea of what folks are looking for at the present time or if another dealer shows interest we know what is actually there other than the 35 I listed. Besides, this is good practice and experience for him, when I am no longer here he and my Daughter will be selling my books which should be easier since the majority are 10 cent - 25 cent covers.
  6. Again, this is all up to him, not me, I am just trying to find out which books are hot right now that I may not be aware of to let him know.
  7. I am guessing that if he can get FMV for his top 35 (there are actually more in the collection that could/would bring $ 5, $10, $15 each) he would be happy and sell the fillers at a yard sale at a "cheap, get em now" price, 10 for a $1.00...??? Either way, here is the list of books and the list of the keys that I am aware of. (I removed all $ figures so it does not look like I am trying to sell them here, Just looking for the key/hot books) https://docs.google.com/document/d/1E_EB0u-mYIO8osRxhZSkzMLlCJGnuCretAOfat0W5U4/edit?usp=sharing https://docs.google.com/document/d/1QI1at-p2gA3yeMNxeJRUFBOd5TWiseKYFsd80Vgb4LI/edit?usp=sharing
  8. I do not know if everything he stated is true or hype, I can only state what he told me. If I am allowed to post a list of the books he has maybe you could point out the keys to see if we agree or if I have something missing.
  9. He probably already knows about business and economics since he has a degree in Accounting. My Son is 43 and he does not have the time to do all of the legwork that would be involved, I would have to do it, basically they want to get rid of the books as quickly and painlessly as possible while still getting what they feel is a good $$ number, they are not looking to make a killing. He already has a list I made of his top 35 with the grade and FMV. All I am going to tell him is that before he sells anything tell me what he is selling or being offered for a certain book(s) and I can give him FMV.
  10. They do not want to be bothered with packing/shipping etc so it will be Facebook,Yard Sale, etc. I know "Yard Sale" sounds bad but I used to do model railroading and I stopped I gave them all of my HO equipment including Locomotives that did not run and they sold all of them at a price they were happy with at a town wide yard sale, so... I already appraised his top 35 using eBay sold auction listings and the dealer that came out agreed with about 98% on my grades and FMV, he said some where slightly higher, some where slightly lower. He pointed out several books that he would be able to sell immediately either because of being "hot" now or because you just do not see them, they do not show up often (JIM Annual 1, ASM Annual 1) He also told me he gets $150.00 for the complete run (1-12) of Marvel Super Hero Secret Wars (1984), he says they come in for #1 and #8 and leave with the complete run. If he can sell the 35 key's/hot books (that we know of right now) for FMV he will have sold them for $1900.00 and still have the junk left, that is $1100.00 more than he was offered for the whole collection.
  11. Unfortunately although I am an avid collector of Marvel Pre-Hero Gold, Silver and Early Bronze I do not follow the movies and I am not real familiar with most books from the 80's/90's. (I am familiar with some because I was buying them new when I got back into collecting in 79.) Since I do not follow the movies I have no idea what is coming out, what characters are being portrayed or what storyline they are following. The only reason for the question is that my Son is selling his collection and he only received one offer from a dealer. Even though there are key/hot books that I knew of in the collection the dealer that came out to look pointed out a couple more so I am trying to find out what else may be in there of any value that we are not aware of.
  12. Also my Son said... If the hot/key books are going to sell that quickly why should we take 30% of FMV when we can sell them ourselves and take all of the profit. AFAIK he plans on listing a couple of books on Facebook to see what happens.
  13. It is not up to me. He was explaining to me what happens when he adds a new collection and I told him that although I was with him the entire time and a lot of these books were bought by me brand new that they were no longer mine so he needed to explain everything to my Son and his wife since they will be making the final decision. After explaining all of this to them he also said "if you are having doubts or do not feel right about the offer let me know right now, it will not hurt my feelings", my Son and his wife decided to wait for his final offer and I told him since my Son has the final say he should contact him through Facebook rather than contacting me. I told my Son that I contacted 9 local dealers through Facebook and only received 3 replies... 1)Thanks for reaching out, here are some gems in there but the majority are books we are not currently interested in, Good Luck!!! 2)Thank you for reaching out and supplying a list of the books, we will go over the list and get back to you. 3)The dealer that came out to the house was the only real interested party.
  14. We all miss things and we all see things differently, when in doubt I tend to under grade, better to be low and it comes back higher than the other way.
  15. The bindery defect should not affect the grade as is, blunted corners, stress lines with color break, creases at the bottom corners... 5.0 VERY GOOD/FINE (VG/FN): Back to TopAn above-average but well used comic book. An accumulation of bindery/printing defects is allowed. Minor to moderate cover wear apparent, with minor to moderate creases and/or dimples. Inks have moderate to low reflectivity. Blunted corners are increasingly common, as is minor to moderate staining, discoloration, and/or foxing. Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present. A minor to moderate spine roll is allowed. A spine split of up to 1/2" may be present. Staples may show minor discoloration. Minor staple tears and minor stress lines may also be present, as well as minor rust migration. Paper is tan to brown with no signs of brittleness. Centerfold may be loose. Minor interior tears may also be present.
  16. The Staining is from water, normally I would agree with the above grade of VG/FN 5.0 except for the rust migration at the bottom staple so I have to estimate the grade at... VG+ 4.5
  17. WOW!!! I understand grading is subjective, only one way we will ever find out.
  18. Judging by the pics, slight discoloration, slightly blunted corners, slightly fanned pages, small stain on cover... IMO it is better than a FN 6.0 but, is it a FN/VF 7.0??? 7.0 FINE/VERY FINE (FN/VF): Back to Top An above-average copy that shows minor wear but is still relatively flat and clean with outstanding eye appeal. A small accumulation of minor bindery/printing defects is allowed. Minor cover wear beginning to show, possibly including minor creases. Corners may be blunted. Inks are generally bright with a moderate reduction in reflectivity. Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present. Minor foxing. The slightest spine roll may be present, as well as a possible moderate color break. Staples may show some discoloration. Slight staple tears and a small accumulation of light stress lines may be present. Slight rust migration. Paper is cream to tan. Centerfold is mostly secure. Minor interior tears at the margin may be present. 6.5 FINE+ (FN+): Back to Top Fits the criteria for Fine but with an additional virtue or small accumulation of virtues that improves the book's appearance by a perceptible amount. 6.0 FINE (FN): Back to Top An above-average copy that shows minor wear but is still relatively flat and clean with no significant creasing or other serious defects. Some accumulation of minor bindery/printing defects is allowed. Minor cover wear apparent, with minor to moderate creases. Inks show a significant reduction in reflectivity. Blunted corners are more common, as is minor staining, soiling, discoloration, and/or foxing. Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present. A minor spine roll is allowed. There can also be a 1/4" spine split or severe color break. Staples may show minor discoloration. Minor staple tears and a few slight stress lines may be present, as well as minor rust migration. Paper is tan to brown and fairly supple with no signs of brittleness. Minor interior tears at the margin may be present. Centerfold may be loose.
  19. Nice Book!!! I cannot tell by the pics if those are slightly fanned pages at the top right of the book, if so I would estimate grade at... 7.0 FINE/VERY FINE (FN/VF): Back to TopAn above-average copy that shows minor wear but is still relatively flat and clean with outstanding eye appeal. If those pages are not fanned then I would give an estimated grade of... 8.0 VERY FINE (VF): Back to TopAn excellent copy with outstanding eye appeal. A limited accumulation of minor bindery/printing defects is allowed. Cover is relatively flat with minimal surface wear beginning to show, possibly including some minute wear at corners. Inks are generally bright with moderate to high reflectivity. An unnoticeable 1/4" crease is acceptable if color is not broken. Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present. Minor foxing. Spine is almost completely flat with a possible minor color break. Staples may show some discoloration. Very slight staple tears and a few almost insignificant stress lines may be present. Paper is cream to tan and supple. Centerfold is mostly secure. Minor interior tears at the margin may be present.
  20. 9.0 VERY FINE/NEAR MINT (VF/NM): Back to TopNearly perfect with outstanding eye appeal. A limited number of bindery/printing defects are allowed. Cover is almost flat with almost imperceptible wear. Inks are bright with slightly diminished reflectivity. An 1/8" bend is allowed if color is not broken. Corners are cut square and sharp with ever-so-slight blunting permitted but no creases. Several lightly penciled, stamped or inked arrival dates are acceptable. Very minor foxing. Spine is tight and flat. Staples may show some discoloration. Only the slightest staple tears are allowed. A very minor accumulation of stress lines may be present if they are nearly imperceptible. Paper is off-white to cream and supple. Very minor interior tears may be present.
  21. Back to the original subject... He was very upfront about his business, other dealers on the forum can either confirm or dispute what he told me. 1)He has 48 hours to turn over books he purchased from a new collection. With 9 other dealers local and people on Facebook/Craigslist that are all posting new finds on the internet at the same time he has a short window...After 48 hours he says most buyers that are looking online "assume" the keys/hot books are gone so they do not come in so the remaining books just sit and become stale. 2)The "fillers" are generally sold at shows to other dealers for about $10.00 a box or at .50/25 cents each or less at specials during the year. 3)We agreed on 98% of the books as I had them graded but he said..."even though we grew up on Overstreet I have to grade very hard as I assume CGC would because that is what buyers are looking at/for due to the internet so every little tick/color break/bindery defect/color fade, etc has to be carefully examined under a microscope." I graded and priced the top 35 books in the collection and came up with a FMV or $1900.00, we were looking for about 30% of FMV for those books. That left 2000 books that he was offering 7 cents per book, I am not really sure if they are all fillers (the reason for this thread). He went home and did his research and contacted my Son with an offer of $800.00 which my Son declined, we were looking for about $1200.00.
