  1. I cannot honestly answer this question, my Son's ASM 238 is missing the Tattooz, however... According to Overstreet the value of the book is the same with or without the Tattooz so does it really matter where they came from as long as they are in good shape and not used?
  2. The material that poly bags are made from is Acidic and breaks down over time causing the acids to be released and over time will damage the book they are protecting, that is why they become "Yellow" and "Crinkly" and it is recommended to replace all poly bags every 5 years or so, Mylar is a Acid Free, Inert Material that does not break down, using a Mylite you are "one and done". I have some books that have been in the same 1 Mil Mylite for 35 years. As far as size, I was always told to use the bag that allows the book to fit comfortably without squeezing the edges/bending the book or having too much room so it moves around, so you want the "Goldilocks" bag, the one that is "just right".
  3. I consider All of the JIM/ST/TOS/TTA books that are "Pre-Hero to be "Marvel Horror" even though the gruesomeness was removed after the CCA came into existence. Here are my Silver Age additions to the thread.
  4. Very Nice Collection!!! IMO and the way I do/did it was to fill the holes in the runs first and then upgrade other books if you feel you need to. I see you have multiple individual key books, what type of books do you enjoy that you would be looking for, Horror, Western, Super Hero?
  5. Since CGC does not release their grading standards none of us can use them as a "Grading Standard". I use Overstreet and Heritage Auctions Grading Standards and unless you know what CGC's grading standards are you cannot legitimately argue that the Overstreet and Heritage are not correct. This is the the same as when people tell me about their car, that it has this much HP as measured on the dyno or is this quick and fast and I say show me the time slip, if you cannot produce a time slip then their is no real life proof of what the car can do performance wise. Same thing with CGC grading standards, show me the proof that their standards are different and not just seat of the pants depending on how the grader feels that day, You Can't!!! https://comics.ha.com/tutorial/comics-grading.s?show=comicdefinitions
  6. Miscut/Miswrapped are "Bindery Defects" and there is no "Black and White" answer to your question. The overall condition of the book and the severity of the defect all play a part in overall grade. Up to and including VG/FN 5.0 - An accumulation of bindery/printing defects is allowed. FN 6.0 -Some accumulation of minor bindery/printing defects is allowed. FN/VF 7.0 - A small accumulation of minor bindery/printing defects is allowed VF 8.0 - NM- 9.2 - A limited accumulation of minor bindery/printing defects is allowed. NM 9.4 - MT 9.9 Subtle bindery/printing defects are allowed. Gem MT 10.0 - Only the slightest bindery or printing defects are allowed. The only thing that really matters is "Do You Like the Book"???
  7. That is just a "Well Loved Book" and I have many early issues that are "Well Loved Books" ranging from PR 0.5 - GD 2.0 so... ENJOY!!!
  8. Date stamps are part of the "History" of the book and a lot of collectors love books with well placed date stamps. According to the Grading Standards a "Stamped or Inked Arrival Date" is allowed anywhere on the book up to and including VF 8.0. VF/NM 9.0 - Several lightly penciled, stamped or inked arrival dates are acceptable. NM- 9.2 - MT 9.9 - Small, inconspicuous, lightly penciled, stamped or inked arrival dates are acceptable as long as they are in an unobtrusive location.
  9. The real answer is when comic books became about $$$, selling and making a profit instead of what they were originally made for... Fun Reading and Entertainment for KIDS of ALL Ages!!!
  10. So the covers were not just recently drawn by a new artist, they came form the archives at Marvel Comics. That makes sense since there are numerous Kirby Hidden Gem Variants and some of the covers are very nice.
  11. Most Golden Age Books measured 7 3/4" x 10 1/2" while the Masterpiece Edition measures 7" x 10".
  12. I am not into "Modern Comics" but I did purchase three of the Marvel Comics #1000 because I liked the "Silver Age" artwork on the cover and one is the "Ditko Hidden Gem Variant" and so the question about "Hidden Gems". From what I have read and understand the covers are redone by newer artists but the books shown in the link below all look like "new art", not "reprints of old art". There is nothing on the internet about "what they are" only "which ones they are". https://comicvine.gamespot.com/hidden-gem-variant-cover/4015-57587/issues-cover/
  13. Can you post a pic of the Indicia and what is the size (height and width) of this book?
  14. Other than to make money... 1)What are Hidden Gem Variants? 2)What is the Hidden Gem? 3)How does the Hidden Gem fit/tie into a Storyline? 4)Why do we want/need the Hidden Gem?
  15. Nice Book!!! 7.5 VERY FINE- (VF-): Back to Top Fits the criteria for Very Fine but with an additional defect or small accumulation of defects that detracts from the book's appearance by a perceptible amount. 7.0 FINE/VERY FINE (FN/VF): Back to Top An above-average copy that shows minor wear but is still relatively flat and clean with outstanding eye appeal. A small accumulation of minor bindery/printing defects is allowed. Minor cover wear beginning to show, possibly including minor creases. Corners may be blunted. Inks are generally bright with a moderate reduction in reflectivity. Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present. Minor foxing. The slightest spine roll may be present, as well as a possible moderate color break. Staples may show some discoloration. Slight staple tears and a small accumulation of light stress lines may be present. Slight rust migration. Paper is cream to tan. Centerfold is mostly secure. Minor interior tears at the margin may be present.
  16. My eyes are not that good, is that a crease or just the way the light hit the cover?
  17. I am not familiar with any of those books, just a reminder though... Be sure the signing is witnessed by a CGC rep and you follow the proper chain of custody with CGC or the signature will not be verified as authentic. https://www.cgccomics.com/signature-series/
  18. Not that this actually answers your question but here is the HYPE from Marvel and a "Review" by "the Beat" that tries to answer that exact question. https://www.comicsbeat.com/the-marvel-rundown-marvel-comics-1000-house-of-x-3/
  19. Marvel Comics #1000 (variant cover 60s - Allred) [2019] You were/are Absolutely correct!!! I ordered the 1960's Variant to display with the original cover book and although the pic showed the cover with just "Marvel Comics #1000 the book I received was the one you have with the "1960's Marvel Tales" graphics.
  20. According to MCS that book is... Amazing Spider-Man (1963 1st Series) Mini Comic DVD Promo #50 There are 5 books in the series, 4 (4/2007), 6 (4/2012) 50 (8/2004), 252 (7/2006), 300 (7/2006). The book was included in the Special Boxed Edition of Spider-Man 2 (2004) movie. http://www.spiderfan.org/title/comics/spiderman_reprints_dvd_sony_walmat_promo.html
  21. For those to be worth $1,000,000.00 you must have some really scarce/sought after/valuable books from both the Golden and Silver Age or just one Action Comics #1.
  22. A Very Nice "Well Loved Book", 1.5 FAIR/GOOD (FR/GD): Shows substantial to heavy wear. Books in this grade are commonly creased, scuffed, abraded, soiled, and possibly unattractive, but still generally readable. Cover shows considerable wear and may be detached. Almost no cover reflectivity remaining. Book-length creases, tears and folds may be present. Rounded corners are increasingly common. Soiling, staining, discoloration and foxing is generally present. Up to 1/10 of the back cover may be missing. Tape and other forms of amateur repair are increasingly common in Silver Age and older books. Spine roll is common. May have a spine split between 2" and 2/3 the length of the book. Staples may be degraded, replaced or missing. Staple tears and stress lines are common, as well as rust migration. Paper is brown and may show brittleness around the edges. Acidic odor may be present. Centerfold may be loose or detached. Interior tears are common.
