  1. Early JLA's in 'high grade' are definitely undervalued. Before i looked at the first 20 issues on the census i was guessing that 6 or 7 of them would have at least one 9.8. I was surprised to find that only 3 issues had a 9.8 and even more surprised to find that there were issues that didnt even have a 9.6. If there are any early high grade JLA collectors out there holding out for super high grade copies my advice would be to definitely buy a VF/NM, NM-, NM copy first and upgrade later. My vote for single undervalued comic goes to OAAW #83.
  2. We do those contests over in the Comics General forum Oh right in Comics General
  3. I was just checking the rest of the War Comics on Comiclinks current auction and on the write up for G.I Combat #76 it states 'this cover was recently voted the number 1 all-time favorite Jerry Grandenetti War cover by CGC members'. really? When did this happen? I have practically gone through the whole of this War thread and cannot find anything.
  4. I had given up on this with not very much to go on until i came across this http://www.comiclink.com/Auctions/item.asp?back=%2FComicTrack%2FAuctions%2Fauctions%5Ffirst%2Easp&id=1119233 This book actually ticks all the boxes AND the cover has been used again on G.I.War Tales #3. That's a nice copy of a great book! Yes i agree and not only does it look better than an 8.5 its always nice to see an old label now and again.

  6. Not having much luck with this even after thirdgreenham's suggestion. Does anyone know what the reprint DC War titles are?
  7. Was it top-3 as in hardest ones to find in high grade, or top-3 as in the most significant Sgt. Rock prototypes? (I think you mean the former, right?) Yes definitely the former. He said something like 'these are the 3 top Sgt.Rock prototypes i have had trouble finding/acquiring in high grade.'
  8. Yes true but he did list his top 3 and i was curious to see if anybody remembered what they were as i was going to check the census to see how many high grade copies there are. Unfortunately a search only goes back 1 year now when it use to be 10 when the boards first started and that would have covered it. I do recall him saying that the cover of one of them has been used again on a reprint title. Anyone fancy playing detective?
  9. I remember years ago a board member on here who was purchasing all the significant War books in relation to the development of Sgt.Rock according to Chris Pedrins Big Five and he was saying which books he was having trouble acquiring in high grade. Was it anybody currently on here now or did anybody else try and do the same exercise and if so which books did they find hard to find in high grade..
  10. When i see books like this sell at that sort of price it makes me wonder is it because its a 9.8 and other issues in 9.8 will also command those prices in that respective title or is it only certain issues because they have what is regarded as better covers. its very difficult to gage.
  11. Hoping that keeps up! Hoping that keeps up as well and if so i should have my books back by the first week of May.
  12. Sent in Green Lantern #76 with 4 visible spine ticks and thought i would get a 9.0 or 9.2 and it came back a 9.4. When i sold it it was then cracked and re-submitted and it got a 9.6.
  13. And dont forget it is also the first book that started off the Bronze Age
  14. Can i post my copy after i have won it on Comiclink
  15. Now i know that tape is not classed as restoration because there is an OAAW #83 with tape currently at auction in a blue label but does actually having tape on the comic mean it is downgraded. The tape is mentioned on the label but is it also factored in the overall grade.
  16. Nice looking OAAW 83. I read my copy as soon as I opened it out of the package. Way cooler experience than when I read it in the Sgt. Rock Archives. This is a high demand book and i dont see that changing anytime soon. There always seems to be on/off rumours of a film in the works which eventually i think will happen. I remember asking Doug Sulipa years ago to put it on my wants list and he told me there were about 20 collectors in front of me. In the end i managed to get a copy elsewhere. There is one on Comiclink at the moment which actually looks nicer than the grade given. Ive seen VG+ copies looking worse than this and im wondering if if CGC actually downgraded it for having tape on the cover.
  17. During the Bronze Age one of the best story arcs that i read was the Korvac Saga in the Avengers and other collectors i have spoken to agree. Korvac in my opinion is an underrated villian who deserves more attention and GS Defenders #3 is his first appearance. Not only that but it contains Starlin art and i believe reprinted Ditko and Everett art as well. Add to that the action packed cover with a Daredevil appearance to boot it has finally started to get some notice. Oh year it is also the first book that started off the Bronze Age
  18. That WAS fast! I didn't recall writing anything quite so early for Gary, but there it is. The issue I had the most fun writing for was CBM #47 with the Haunted Tank recreation cover. That whole issue was just one DC war-palooza after another! Would you believe it i have about 5 issues missing and that is one of them Does this issue mention OAAW #56 and #68 for any particular reason. Again my friend seeme to remembers a small article about these issues similar to the one written about OFF #51 not necessarily written by you and it might not even have been in CBM, but seeing as you are a big war fan you might have come across it.
  19. Wow thanks. How did you find this out so quickly?
  20. I was speaking to a friend who seems to remember a 1 page article on either Our Army At War issues 56 or 68 or Our Fighting Forces #51 writen by Mick Rabin in CBM. I believe Mick is on the boards and often posts in the war thread but i dont know his username so if you see this Mick please LMK about the issue you wrote about and what issue of CBM it was in, or if anybody else knows can they post the details so i can check out the article please. Thanks
  21. Some nice War Books that you dont see too often up on Comiclink's March auction. Must have been a last minute addition because they were not there a few days ago. All this time I never knew OFF #51 was the only Russ Heath Gunner & Sarge cover even though i have a copy. The interior artwork on this issue in my opinion is the best in the series that i have read.
  22. When i read your post i went and dug out my copy of 'Chris Pedrin.s Big Five' the most informative book i have read regarding DC's five main war books. In it there is a section which discusses all the 'prototype' issues regarding Sgt.Rock and which one's were significant. I dont have a copy of AAMOW #42 but there is no mention of it in the Big Five although AAMOW #39 IS mentioned and at one time i would have had a copy because i went and bought all the copies that were dscribed as significant in the development of Sgt.Rock.
  23. Definitely more interest in Adams Batman nowadays with #222,#227 and #237 the most requested. Don't forget 232!! Not forgetting #232
  24. Definitely more interest in Adams Batman nowadays with #222,#227 and #237 the most requested.
  25. I had a run of Northland House of Mystery comics that a collector of70's DC Horror kept enquiring about that i kept refusing to sell because i thought they were so nice. About 6 months before CGC came about i decided to sell and have regretted it ever since. I contacted the guy i sold it to a couple of years later but by now they were split with several other collectors. I do try to keep an eye out to see if any pop up anywhere and ive probably missed a few but i did spot the #199 in the Comiclink auction graded as a 9.8 which does not surprise me at all and makes me regret it even more .
