  1. I agree witth everything Teddie has said and no its not my copy either but i have held it in my hand about 2 years ago but the owner wasnt willing to sell. From memory the first things that occured to me were the fact that it was a bright clean copy, had sharp corners and that it had White pages. I didnt really take much notice of the date stamp simply because date stamps dont bother me. As for the QP it really isnt as bad as what some people think. The one's i really take a dislike to are the ones that appear like the Western Penn Avengers #116 coming up in the next foucused auction on Comiclink http://www.comiclink.com/auctions/item.asp?back=%2Fauctions%2Fpreview%2Easp%3Fcode%3D2012sept%26session%3D4%26pg%3D6%23Item%5F945156&id=945156 that for me is too obvious. I think that the only things stopping the Batman #227 from getting a 9.8 is probably the date stamp and possibly the slight wear top left. Certainly one of the better 9.6's ive seen recently.
  2. Once pressing was classed as not restoration there werent going to be too many Bronze Age books that were still going to have the 'scarce in high grade' tab. Just for the record i know who owns this book and it hasnt been pressed.
  3. find the guys w/ a 9.4 in their registry set and ask them. i'll start- No. No Greggy i thought you won the last 9.6 that came up for sale.
  4. No it was actually directed at you because i thought if anybody had one it would be you and i totally agree with what you have said. Enemy Ace appears in more crossovers than any other DC War character and any black cover is usually a nightmare to find in high grade.
  5. Does any board member(probably Greggy) own the new DC 100 Page Super Spectacular #4 CGC9.6 hat has just gone onto the census.
  6. Do you have a OAAW #151 and if so what grade is it.
  7. Rather than start a new thread i was wondering if anybody here feels that there are some War books that are still undervalued compared to the guide. I always thought that OAAW #83 was seriously undervalued but now this has caught up. The other book i was thinking of is OAAW #151 1st Enemy Ace. A key character with regards to DC War and rarely turns up in high grade probably due to the black cover. If anybody has a 9.4 id love to see it. (thumbs u
  8. Have you contacted them? The reason its taking so long is due to CGC messing up and sending all the slabs back to DWC instead of the individuals addresses. Mine is going via Comicana so I will just give them a polite kick. Not you F_T, just the Greek Be careful as the Greek kicks back I had an e-mail from DWC today confirming receipt of my books from CGC and asking me to confirm my postal address. Hopefully I won't have to wait to long Still waiting for mine. Were your books done through the economy service.
  9. I coudlnt go today but a friend of mine went who hasnt been for 7 years and he said the big dealers were not there and hence one of the rooms was completely empty. He couldnt say what it was like last time but compared to 7 years ago a bit disappointing.
  10. There is actually a thread on the Comics General forum on this very subject, which has a couple of recommendations in - maybe PM Mike for more details? Insurance thread One thing these guys haven't considered (for obvious reasons) is what options Royal Mail might have - you should check that out too if you haven't already. Adam Thanks but this is all within the US. I want to know what UK collectors/dealers do when shipping expensive items from the UK to the US.
  11. His relectance to supply a tracking number isnt good. Personally i would pester him every week for a tracking number until he gives you one. I would like to ask a seperate question as im sending a comic to the US. Im using FedEx who only insure for a value of upto $1000. What do other UK boardies do when sending comics over $1000 to the US. Do you take out seperate insurance policies and if so who do you use.
  12. I dont actually have a copy yet. Im looking at the one coming up on Comiclink but the page quality sure is putting me off.
  13. This is not a book that shows up that often. In fact on the Heritage archives they have only sold 7 copies in the last 10 years. Can anybody tell me whats so special about this book. They hardly turn up for sale and when they do they either turn up restored or with inferior page quality.
  14. Does anybody have or know the whereabouts of the Oakland copy which was in an old blue label graded by CGC as a 9.6 copy. It would be interesting to know if its still in its original case as after years of making enquiries it seems to have disappeared
  15. I was in a similar situation to you and i cracked the book out and sent it in with the old label and the book came back as a 9.4 with the same PQ i.e cr to ow. I therefore repeated the process again with exactly the same results. My advice to you would be to buy another 9.6 with better page quality as nothing is guaranteed on a re-submit.
  16. Old label books were slabbed 8+ years ago and probably were not pressed. Some like to buy old label books for that reason and keep them in their old label cases. Others like to buy the old label books, crack them out, press them, and resubmit to hopefully improve the grade. I know many collectors who want their books to be unpressed so with this group of collectors along with the press and resubmit group of collectors if this book ever turns up still in its old label things could get VERY interesting.
  17. Yes you are right the label change was around that time(September 2003 to be exact) but i didnt realise there was only one 9.6 copy graded by then. I really do hope that copy is still in an old label but my gut feeling is it isnt. Ive had a look and noticed that on May 2nd 2011 there were 10 9.6's and now there are only 7. This is why i would rather have an old label 9.6 than a 9.8.
  18. I know of at least 2 other 9.4's in an old holder. I have one of them. Whew! Im glad to hear it. You dont know of an old label 9.6 by any chance do you
  19. Was hoping it was in an old blue label. Just like GL 76 there doesnt seem to be any around in 9.4 or better
  20. And dont forget this was voted the favourite Neal Adams cover in a recent poll.
  21. Does anybody else think its time to update the main page of this thread. There are still some websites up that have been gone for years, websites that have completely disappeared and some that havent been updated for years. Maybe these could be replaced with some of the new sites that have gone up since especially some of the forum members sites
  22. Does anybody know if any of the 9.8's were formally the 9.6 Oakland copy?
  23. Yeah, I picked up a number of Keith's books on that premise as well. If I had more money, I'd have scooped a lot more than I did. There was a VERY long dry spell between any substantial collection coming to market and Keith's initial Heritage offering. In some ways, that's a bit deceptive because frankly, many of Keith's books from that 2007 auction have "made the rounds" quite a few times. I passed on some because they were already in my collection, but I recall thinking that if they were one issue before or after, I'd have bid competitively on them. Then I'd see that same book offered up for sale in subsequent auctions. It gave the impression that there was a "flooding" of the market with high grade copies when it was--in many cases--the same copies trading hands. I'm not going to shoot my mouth off about which ones you NEVER see in any of the auctions (or even buried in friends' collections) because those same issues have eluded me (surprisingly enough) for the past 22 years. Suffice to say that these "elusive" issues are right in the runs and sometimes in unexpected places. I don't think there are many 15¢ers that are genuinely tough in anything but 9.6 or 9.8, but there are 12¢ers aplenty that don't have a single copy above 8.0 and I've never seen a high grade raw copy of them in collections either. With 10¢ers, virtually every one of 'em is truly tough in grade, but for some reason there are a few that just can't seem to find a home [because all the serious collectors ALREADY have a copy??]. For some reason, I've seen OFF 12 in 8.0 or better numerous times. Not sure if it's the SAME OFF 12, but there's an example of a fantastic 10¢ book in grade that just can't find a good home. Does each of the high grade collectors on these boards have that? I'd be all over it if it were a couple issues above or below it, but I have a copy of #12 so I don't need it. Anyway, a few of us ultra-geeks have speculated about whether a SINGLE complete collection of war books in high grade could ever be assembled if you put all the high grade war collections together. I, for one, am not convinced, that it COULD be assembled. The CGC census and our collective observations of each others' collections would suggest that quite a few holes exist. You hear national dealers sometimes discussing very discrete collectors who have "buried" their collections for decades, but do these collectors have the war books? Yes there are issues that are just not offered for sale in high grade although many of them dont have high graded issues in the first place. Take OAAW #73 which according to Chris Pedrins 'Big Five' book is listed as 'highly significant' in the development of the Sgt.Rock character. I saw one on ebay way back in 2000 or 2001 in 8.5 and i was outbid in the last second when i thought no-one would outbid me. Since then there has only been 1 more 8.5(im assuming its not the same copy) and this will probably be the highest graded copy. No wonder i havent seen it for sale since. If a copy does turn up again well all i can say is
  24. Fixed that for you. I also realized after looking at the date stamp on the Bethlehem that Strange Adventures 150 hit the stands one week after I was born. Had to have it! You didnt happen to buy the #117 as well did you? That only came out a few weeks before you were born
  25. You are persistent, hope you're able to acquire the book someday. Its number 2 on my list. My number 1 is a comic that i use to own that is now in the hands of a collector(all Danny Dupcaks aka comic-keys fault) ironically based where you are.
