  1. Those are incredible prices. I might have to send in my Manitoba X-Men #79 copy after all.
  2. I try to have my keepers be 6.0 or better, and I really like 7.5s when I can find them (all the beauty of a VF book and cheaper than the aforementioned price spike at 8.0). Anywhere in that range is high grade enough for me. Yes my minimum grade was VF as well but it was still an arduous task. Just to say to all those who have been emailing me that no i do not have any pre-hero comics anymore as i sold up years ago. Then i remembered that i do have 1 pre hero comic at CGC along with several other comics that seems to have been there forever. Its a Strange Tales #95 CGC 8.5 and i got it back today and will be in the Comiclink Fall auction. To be honest i was a bit disappointed with the grade as stands up very well with the CGC 9.2 copy that sold recently. Anyway anyone who is interested in PHM there it is. Sticking with the same subject a few years ago there was a vote on which PHM cover was collectors favourite. Ive been raking my brains but i cannot seem to remember what it was. The only thing i do remember is it wasnt particularly memorable.
  3. I gave up collecting high grade pre-hero Marvels years ago because it was far too difficult but just out of curiosity what is the minimum grade you guys would accept as high grade. Many collectors have said i was aiming too high.
  4. Anybody going to/has been to the MCM comic convention this week-end? How does it compare to the London Super Comic Convention? Is it worth going to pick up back issues or do dealers give this one a miss.
  5. Did anybody go to the Royal National last week? I probably go about 3 or 4 times a year and it has become really disappointing. Once upon a time you could not move for bodies and 1 year they had to open up an extra room which is usually reserved for the guests staying at the hotel, how times have changed. Some of the big dealers seem to have deserted this venue as well which brings me on to a dealer i have not seen in ages. Does anyone know what happened to Ken harman? Does he still deal and does anyone have any contact info for him.
  6. Did you end up going? A friend of mine went and said the mart is definitely dying which is a shame. Didnt you use to be a dealer there? I was indeed, for many years. I wouldn't say it was dying, more like comics have been superceded by other collectibles. That said, there are less specialist dealers than there were. My gripe was that there were no new punters turning up...it was generally the same people every time. Still worth attending though. What he said was there were less specialist dealers like you said but also its getting smaller with only 2 rooms being occupied. By the way whats up with your website. When i click on the link i taken into realms of fantasy. Sounds like a worthwhile link. The two rooms occupy the same square footage that the previous three room layout did - there hasn't been a reduction in the amount of dealer tables. It is mostly the cheaper stuff that shifts there these days, with the high end comics being sidelined somewhat (a lot of the tables are exclusively DVDs and merchandise). Which is why I stopped setting up there. And I shut down my website in February, 2011. I do miss having it, but I decided to move on. So is your inventory just siting there gathering dust or have you sold it all to another dealer or collector as i heard you had some nice stock.

  9. Is the Royal National on tomorrow and is anyone going?
  10. Do any of you guys know the email address for comic dealer Paul McCartney
  11. wow where did you pick this one up?
  12. Somewhere in this thread there is a discussion about the Oakland copy of SSWS #138 because a few boardies bid on it(myself included) when it showed up on Ebay but all lost. Because it was the Oakland copy i wrote down the serial number to see if it gets pressed and re-submitted and now that it has re-surfaced im please to see its in its original holder. Wish i hadnt completely blown my budget last month becuase i would have bid on it. For those of you who dont remember what the cover looks like(shame on you) here is a link to 1 of the best Kubert war covers in my opinion. http://www.comiclink.com/auctions/item.asp?back=%2FAuctions%2Fdefault%2Easp%3FFocused%3D1%2Btarget%253Dblank%26pg%3D25%23Item%5F989647&id=989647
  13. One of the few if any PC books that I've seen that are not centered perfectly - curious about this one considering there is another PC 76 that came directly from Roter. If memeory serves me correct there were 2 copies one a 9.4 and the other a 9.2. No the centreing isnt as good as some of the other Pacific Coast copies but i havent seen too many copies with White Pages but this one has and its certainly better than the 9.6 copy i saw on the pedigree website a few years back.
  14. Anybody here own the Pacific Coast copy on Comiclink?
  15. Sticking with HOM does anybody here on the boards own the recently CGC graded 9.6 #203. One of those issues in a particular run of a titla that is not easy to find in high grade and i wouldnt mind seeing it.
  16. Does anyone know if the current turnaround times on the CGC website are up-to date. All im reading are the submissions that have been sent in fast track. What about the ones that have not been sent in fast track? Are the current turnaround times correct? if not how far are they behind?
  17. A nice cover but does anyone have the 9.8 copy of #153 which is my personal favourite cover of Faceless Creatures. That must look absolutely spectacular.
  18. Going back to the original posters comments when he says ' Steranko vintage originals have recently sold for $30-100K, with recreations reselling for $30K, so the investment aspect is significant. .' Does anyone have any examples of this? You hardly see any Steranko originals selling in the first place so im wondering what these figures are refering to. Im not questioning what the OP is saying im just wondering what your average Captain America, Nick Fury or X-Men Steranko panel page would cost.
  19. Ive always wondered this as well. Ive misplaced my copy but is GIC #45 listed as significant, highly significant or fairly significant in Pedrin's book? He lists it as Highly Significant. According to Pedrin, in the story "Fireworks Hill," one of the characters stands there "...like a rock." In the face of enemy fire, I'm guessing? I haven't read the issue. I think we need the War Report guys to chime in here. (They don't mention the issue in the latest OSPG.) Highly Significant really? When i wrote my post i was about 90% sure it was just fairly significant. This book is then definitely a must have for those collecting all the Sgt.Rock prototypes but how many collectors are actually even aware of this. With the way the current auction stands i think someone is going to get the 'deal of the year' so far. Well, his input may or may not transfer into how the "market" reacts to certain books. This may be an excellent example. I'll say this. Have OS note GIC 45 as a Rock prototype issue and the market will react. No doubt about that
