  1. I want to walk away from Moderns altogether, focus on the old stuff. I have noticed there is a definite lack of decent Silver and Bronze in the brick and mortar these last few years.
  2. That is wise. I only own 2 slabbed books, both purchased, not sent off. One is a Captain Ameirca 101 (in 4.5 which doesn't need to remain slabbed), and the other is a Spawn 9.8 that I got an amazingly low $ deal on.
  3. The encapsulation/third party grading came about for the obvious reason of taking out the second guessing between 2 parties. If you like owing raw books, then you can only collect raw books, or buy encapsulated books and crack them out. If you want to re-sell the books, then a 3rd party encapsulation will probably help you sell for a maximum price. I am of the opinion that CGC has gotten log jammed, with too many, mid grade/non-key books that don't warrant a 3rd party system. If you want to argue about some random Bronze age being a 4.0 or 5.0, then have at it. I gots more important things to do.
  4. Those Fighting Men look similar to the old Heroes In Action from the 1970's.
  5. Cool, I rarely get to participate in these. This was cracked out upon purchase. Will probably have it cleaned and press and hope for a CGC 5.0
  6. I liked this run. Kind of the epitome of 1990's goo. I feel like McFarlane had a really good handle on how to draw Spidey, maybe not so much on the writing though.
  7. They lost a lot of viewers with the 'treadmill' story line. It went from an interesting zombie romp, to a bunch of human vs, human camps terrorizing each other. It became tedious.
  8. Spot on. I think some people confuse "quality" with "monetary value". My favorite comics to own are ones that are only worth about $10 max, because they are specific to my childhood, a place in time.
  9. Back to Holiday Inn Conference Rooms and out of Convention Centers hopefully. Set number of tickets, once they sell out, they sell out. No walk ups.
  10. Tiki Mugs (much like comics, I prefer older ones, but got some newer ones as well).
  11. Shogun Warriors. I yelled it before I read the responses. What do I get?
  12. Nothing worse than unsorted, unbagged comics, tossed in long boxes. Sort them at least alphabetically. Don't have to break it down by title or publisher. Bag and boarded. Not only will it protect what remains of the current condition, but easier to sort through. Buy 10 get 1 free or something along those lines.
  13. Amazingly, I don't own any at the moment, but I have had my share throughout the years. I always liked the more obscure reference ones. The kind that don't immediately scream 'SUPERHERO'. This one is on my radar:
  14. I guess if I titled this thread 'Maestro #1 Variant', it would have gotten more responses. It's a shame nobody reads comics like they used to.
  15. I got drool on one once. Sounds more strange than it was, but I was lying in bed, on my stomach, huge yawn, and splat. Must have been a Silver Age DC.
  16. Sometime in 1990, a Holiday Inn Conference Room in Hillside, IL. Maybe 10 long tables of dealers.
  17. Well they do it with baseball bats and jerseys making them into sports cards so.....
  18. Always, and I mean ALWAYS loved this cover. The fact I was still finding these in dollar bins up until about 2 years ago still blows my mind.
