  1. I have 9.8 White copies of ASM 299, 300, 316 and Hulk 340.  Was thinking about submitting them for this signing event, but not sure if its worth risking the grade even if the chances is small.  On the other hand, I have cover price + tax and grading costs in each of them.  So, maybe it is worth the risk?

  2. Very amused reading the reviews here.  And I do get both sides of the coin.  It just takes me back to the late 1980s when the books were first coming out and the early reviews were pretty much just like the show reviews here.  Some people loved it, others thought it was slow and plodding or the antagonist was hollow.  In general, through A Dolls House, the comic was thought of as decent but not great.  It wasn't until the subsequent short stories and heading through Season of Mists that it really became considered a groundbreaking and largely incredible comic book.

Regardless, I think it has enough acclaim and is good enough that we are definitely going to see more seasons.  Hate it for those who are not enjoying it as much.  So far it is a solid A for me and I anticipate that rating will go up if they continue to follow the story pace of the original series.

  3. As with most here, I've thoroughly enjoyed the series.  There have been a few changes made to the details but none that I think change the underlying narrative.  Clearly some changes had to be made to fit things to tv streaming format and to avoid overlap with the wider DC universe.  Not sure how they would have handled a Martian Manhunter or other crossovers.

It's a toss up for me whether my favorite episode is 6 or 10.  Episode 6 is so cathartic and well played after experiencing Episode 5 and Hob Gadling is one of my favorite characters from the comic books.  But, I expected Ep6 to be good.  It did not let down.  Episode 10, I was not expecting to be so good.  The end parts with Fiddler's Green, Rose, and Unity truly made me a bit teary eyed.

I cannot wait to see Season of Mists, A Game of You, and The Kindly Ones make it to the screen now.  Hopefully, Netflix will do the smart thing and renew for a few more seasons.  If the train wreck American Gods became could muster 3 seasons, surely something done well like this can make it the distance of the entire original comic book run. Keeping my fingers crossed.

  4. We binged through episode 6 last night and I'm very pleased.  My expectations were about as high as they've been for any adaptation from comic books or Neil's work and I will say each of the first 6 episodes either met or exceeded expectations.  There is a small flaw here and there, but given the change in mediums and bringing it up to current day interpretation, I think it has been very well done and will please fans of the original series.  Cannot wait to finish the other 4 episodes tonight, then go back and watch all of it again in a week or so after my mind has had time to unwind and reprocess everything.

  5. While we are still waiting for season 1 to drop on Friday, has there been anything verified about a 2nd season and beyond?  I recall an article back last year (or maybe even 2020) while season 1 was in production where Gaiman said they were working on the screenplays for season 2.  I feel it is just a matter of when and not if they will announce more seasons.  It's hard for me to pick favorite story arcs, but Season of Mists would be near the top for me which would surely be season 2 material.  Given 16-20 issues represented in a season, they could be on pace for a solid 5 season run just covering the original series.

With roughly a month before release, Sandman prices are rough. Basically 9.8 or bust and even the 9.8 prices are down.

While it has a large fanbase, it is not a better known property in main pop culture.  A lot of how these books perform will depend on how well the show is done and if it draws in a large following of watchers who were not familiar with the title before.  If it cannot do the latter, you basically have the same fans you've always had trading books back and forth.

  7. HeroesCon (yes, there is an 'e' in there, folks) is my hometown show and is always a good one because, as someone mentioned above, it is always very comic book and artist focused.  Kudos to Shelton Drum and team for having such a great show that stays true to the hobby and to have done it for so long.

That said, you are never going to find a deal on slabbed keys at this show.  They are always overpriced and nearly none of the "dealer" will deal on those books.  I really think most just display them to draw people in to sell run-fillers and non-mega key books.   Best chance to find decent prices on keys, in my experience, has been smaller local shows.  Heroes has a mini-con about 6 months off from HeroesCon and there is another quarterly local show in my area and a lot of my good slabbed books have come from these rather than big conventions.

  11. To swing back to the OP's comment, this book has steadily been gaining steam over the past year.  Lately, it has jumped more quickly with the hype/marketing about Doctor Strange 2 increasing.  Now is probably not the time to buy it as there is a LOT of public spotlight on the property.  If it were me, I'd wait 2 or 3 months after the movie is out for the inevitable, though probably small, drop in prices when everyone starts focusing on the next MCU offering.

There are rarely any deals to be found on Heritage…

There are rarely deals,  period.  If you want a good key SA book... I mean a key that presents well regardless of grade and has some kind of connecting significance... then you are going to 99% of the time not going to get a deal when you buy it.  Best bet is to set a comfortable limit on how much above average market price you are willing to pay.  For me that's about 10-20% depending on the book and my liquidity at the time,  but I've found if you are not short term flipping,  you always come out ahead.

ASM 101, TOD 10, and WWBN 32 are to me very overpriced. Just not worth the money they are going for. Just my opinion. I sold my copies of each years ago but IMHumbleO a 9.0 101 should be no more than 1,500, TOD 10 9.0 about the same, and Moon Knight no more than 2k for a 9.0. B rate characters going for AAA rate prices. These are the times we are living.

I'm not sure I agree on WWbN 32.  Moon Knight has building in popularity long before there was an MCU announcement.  He may not be an A-list character but he is at least a very strong B-list at this point.  Couple that with the relative scarcity of issues in grade 9.4 or higher (compared to other BA Marvel key first appearances) and I think this one has a very minimal drop if any once the show is out.

  14. So... wondering if Marvel Premiere will drop off and Submariner 13 will take off now?   Either the tentacled beast was misidentified in the rumor mill or more than one tentacled beast will show up in DD&MoM.  I'd place my bets on the first scenario.

Also, not sure I understand the What If 18 rush.  Those buying are not very well informed as what they are speculating on is a direct result of the What If animated series on Disney+, not that What If 18 storyline.

People obviously don't know that Avengers #232 was from a very low period in the title's history. One of the many comics that were practically worthless, and will be again once the dust has settled.

Iron Man #55 is the better buy. 2c

I don't disagree, but IM55 is already an expensive book whereas Avengers 232 was/is relatively undesirable.  These are just being bought up by flippers looking to make some quick cash.  Doubtful any bought are being grabbed for long-term collecting.  It reminds me of all the excitement around Defenders 27 before Guardians vol2 came out, a book with very little if any heat lingering on it at this point.

Maybe there's a Shadowman movie moving forward as well. Darque would be the natural choice for the big bad.

It would be.  There are quite a few good properties in the Valiant that could be hits provided they are done well.  Maybe everything was just put into limbo to give people to disassociate the horrible Bloodshot movie from the rest of the universe?  Though, I try to keep tabs on any tv/movie related news for Valiant and haven't seen anything convincing recently that would justify the buying spree.

We were just discussing something similar to this last night.  Marvel has a similar but more difficult task starting here than it did when "Iron Man" was released.  They have what was a winning formula with the Infinity Stones storyline, and we're going to be introduced to "new" characters (like Shang-Chi and Falcon-as-Cap) to set the stage for the grand finale in 20 movies or so.  The question for them is whether the storyline they've picked will be as compelling, and whether a group of what can be argued are mostly secondary characters will be as compelling telling it.

My personal view is that a Falcon-as-Cap movie will be great and a commercial success.  While a little too preachy, the F&WS series was well done and a great transitional piece.  Disney+ gives them a way to make those things happen where people can see them rather than just having someone say "hey, this happened" in a movie.  This gives them an advantage they didn't have in the "Infinity Stones" storyline.

The success of the MCU and the addition of DIS+ is a huge tailwind.

Totally agree with you.  One argument is the Disney+ shows kind of wind up where they started essentially not really changing the movie narrative.  For example, Sam started with the Cap mantle and ended with it.  I don't mind that approach though.  I like F&WS because it really delved into the characters more than you can in a movie (especially when they were not the main characters before).  It will be interesting to see where they go.  Feige has said there would not be another Avengers build up story but I find that hard to believe.  My bet is we'll see something along the lines of Avengers vs. X-Men before this phase is over (similar to Civil War), then some bigger foe they must unite to defeat.

Somewhat, but relatively few recent sales. Seems to have plateaued a bit.

I think anyone with a copy they are willing to sell is holding for now.  There will be more action when we actually start seeing photos and trailers for the Strange 2 movie, I'm sure.  Though, the Spidey trailer I think stirred things up a little.  Have a decent 7.5 tucked back and a very nice 9.8 of Doctor Strange #1.  Those are my personal collection tho, so doubtful I'll move them even when the prices spike again.  Also, I think longer term this ST110 will still have good growth because I see the character continuing to be a connective piece in MCU movies going forward.  Maybe not as popular as Iron Man as a character, but I am betting he shows up in other titles nearly as much before his run is done.
