  1. Awesome pick up-that story is the inspiration for the chest burster scene in Alien.
  2. Both are from G I Combat: “The DI and the Sand Fleas” from issue 56, and “The Rock” from #68.
  3. Absolutely right about that! Which explains why I have both slabbed and unslabbed copies of the books I like, even though I have them on hand in multiple platforms (Cochran set, Fantagraphics EC Library, Gemstone/Gladstone singles, EC Classics, East Coast Comix). Nothing beats the smell and feel of an original EC.
  4. Exactly. At least as far back as Chris Pedrin’s Big 5 guide, which came out in 1994.
  5. That’s definitely odd. I wonder if there was a problem that led to Weird Mystery 18 being delayed, because the page in WM announces that Tales of Ghost Castle will be on sale February 6th. If it was planned to be release on the 20th, logic would dictate that it would say “on sale now”.
  6. Absolutely agree. Looking at top census for PCH (excepting Harvey and EC, for obvious reasons), there are a lot of issues where 7.0-8.0 is the top grade. And it isn’t like there aren’t tons of people looking for them. When I was putting runs of 50s war books together I was happy to get any copy of certain issues.
  7. There are a couple of my hoard books that are up and highest graded. I’m debating going after them but there are also SO many other great books coming up for sale in the next few auctions. Plus next year’s big goal is a an AA 61, so that is looming over any big money decisions.
  8. Ok, it is criminally tragic that there hasn’t been a post here since early July. So, here’s a bump and a question: is there a good reference book for funny animal GA books, something akin to Benton’s crime, sci-fi and horror books? I know what I know but I realize there’s a whole lot more out there to learn about!
  9. Mikes Newsstand has Archie and Me 31 with an on sale date of 8/1/1969. Regardless, I agree that an ad that appeared across multiple publishers isn’t a true first appearance.
  10. According to Mike’s Amazing Newsstand, the on sale date was October 19, 1976 which puts it right between X-men 102 (September 21st) and 103 (November 16th).
  11. I just picked up a cool electric chair cover and couldn’t find a dedicated thread for them. Here’s mine, let’s see yours!
  12. This had the introduction of Lucien in a one page interaction with Eve, to advertise Tales of Ghost Castle. Neil Gaiman later incorporated him into his Sandman series.
  13. Another DC horror host first appearance off my list:
  14. This is a recent pick up, and a semi-key book, since it is the first appearance of Lucien (though not noted on the CGC label).
  15. This thread needs a bump, so here are a couple of recent pickups!
  16. This is what the mailman brought me today:
  17. Locker is the published that produced the 5 Planet issues in the UK.
