  1. Swimsuit pinups are kind of my thing and have quite a few. So many published swimsuit pieces have come and gone through my collection over the years lol. I mostly focus on the Marvel and Image/Wildstorm swimsuit specials. Here is one of the Marvel one's I still have, featuring Storm and Forge. It was both a pinup and the back cover to Marvel Swimsuit #3, by Jan Duursema. For all the Image/Wildstorm ones, I have almost 20 so to save this thread the burden of so many scans, here is a link to that gallery on my CAF as well as a few choice selections for sharing here. http://www.comicartfans.com/galleryroom.asp?gsub=68184
  2. I remember seeing this page for sale years ago. I believe it said the artist was Al Rio and it was some sexy indie comic he did, maybe a Brazilian one? Can't remember beyond being positive it is Al Rio.
  3. This latest round begins ending tomorrow evening around 6pm Pacific. Lots of great stuff still available and a single bid can take them. Once again, highlights include 5 Evil Ernie covers from the new Chaos and a few trading card auctions for 90's Chaos art, 2 Stormwatch covers by Scott Clark and Renato Arlem, a Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season 8 cover by Georges Jeanty, 4 Burn Notice covers by Tony Shasteen (based on the USA Network TV show), an Adam Hughes Indiana Jones sketch card a, some trading card art by Bo Hampton, and so much more! There are 15 covers (many under $100 to start!), 5 trading card art pieces, some great interior pages and pinups, a bunch of sketch cards, some signed or remarked limited prints, and a couple old sketches too. Super affordable art by Adam Hughes, Scott Clark, Simon Bisley, Joyce Chin, Stephen Segovia, Nei Ruffino, Renato Arlem, Justiniano, Georges Jeanty, Bo Hampton, Tony Shasteen, Steven Russell Black, Jonboy Meyers, Dan Brereton, James O'Barr, Mielan Zebrowski, Steve Ellis, and many more. https://www.ebay.com/sch/madman1138/m.html Thanks for looking! 4. 2017 was a much different year for me than usual. I bought a lot less art and hardly spent any money this year. (comparatively to previous years lol) I usually get over 100 pieces a year between sketches, published art, and sketch cards, but this year was less than half of that. Still, I got some serious, quality pieces for my particular tastes. After an unexpected career change last April, I pretty much stopped buying art for the rest of the year. But I started 2017 with a mission to specifically get myself an Art Adams cover, a McFarlane Spider-man page, a Luke vs Vader Star Wars commission painting by Dave Dorman, and more art by Travis Charest. I am happy to say that despite all the challenges of everything this past year, all those happened for me! The first 3 happened very early in the year, as I worked large trade/cash deals for the McFarlane Spidey page and Art Adams cover, as well as ordered and paid for the Star Wars painting from Dorman, before I lost my job in April. Then I met a nice local collector who bought the last of Travis Charest's Wildstorm art in a bulk deal and he reached out to me with 3 incredible pieces, and I spent the summer paying for those with waves of art sales of my own. And as often happens in this hobby, one thing leads to another and around the end of summer I happened to meet former Wildstorm inker Tom WcWeeney on Facebook when I shared one of my new Travis pieces in a FB group and he still had 2 dream pages I always wanted by J Scott Campbell (Danger Girl) and Travis Charest (Wildcats), respectively. So we worked a deal for both and I sold some art and managed to get those as well. But beyond these 8 pieces, I mostly just got small sketches from some of my regular indie artists. So ironically it was both a great year for me with the hobby and a terrible year, in that I had to turn down art left and right and painfully pass on so much. But I got some of my biggest grail pieces to date, so it wasn't that bad I guess. I am showing an image here of all 5 of my "Best Of" pieces rather than individual links, but my Lowry has large scans and there are lengthy descriptions in each of the posts elaborating on specifically how I got them all, so I still recommend checking it out and here is a link to my Lowry. http://www.comicartfans.com/mylowry.asp?gsub=1358 Honorable mentions go to the other 3 Travis Charest pieces as well, as they are all pretty significant and it was tough to only choose one of the 4 new Travis pieces to be included in the Best Of. So I am showing those below as well below. These include a great Wildcats page featuring the origin/1st Appearance of Maxine "Ladytron" Manchester, a beautiful card art piece of Rainmaker from Gen13, and a tight finished pencil pinup of Grunge from Gen13 which gives a rare glimpse into the intricate pencils Travis was doing in 1994, as they are uninked.
  5. Not a lot sold the last round so I lowered most of the starting prices and relisted the remaining pieces the other night. Now running through Sunday evening at the link above. Thanks for looking!
  6. This round of auctions end tomorrow, starting at 3pm Pacific. Lots of incredible covers and art for cheap! No reserves on anything! https://www.ebay.com/sch/madman1138/m.html Thanks for looking! Dave K
  7. A fair amount sold from the last round but I went ahead and relisted the unsold items since eBay keeps offering me more free listings. https://www.ebay.com/sch/madman1138/m.html I have also edited the title of my post to remove the artists who sold already, like BWS and Marat Mychaels art. Thanks for looking!
  8. Thanks guys, I am floored by how well this came out and it really hits on all nostalgic feelings I was going for. One of my finest commissions to date!
  9. This piece is my one and only commission of 2017 and it has been a long time coming. I am so glad it was finished before the end of the year so I can share it as one of my 5 Best Of pieces for 2017! I have always wanted a Star Wars cover painting by Dave Dorman since he did all the great Star Wars covers back in the day for Dark Horse. But I decided I wanted to get a specific piece done just for me involving the epic Return of the Jedi climax lightsaber battle between Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader in the Emperor's chamber instead. That moment in that film was huge to me as a child, and I have always wanted to see his take on it and this came out so much better than I even thought it would. I don't commission large pieces very often, but for some painters I just have to and now I can finally check Dorman off my list. This is even better than many covers he's done and I am in love! Shout out to my buddy Ari for middle-manning the entire deal and having to be my point of contact for a commission that went WAY over time. It was supposed to be done within a month and was paid for in Feb. So ultimately it took 10 months, but in the long run I am still very happy with the finished product. But it is a main reason why I don't commission expensive pieces often. But I am blown away by it, and that is what truly matters in the end. I have a nice hi-res scan up on my CAF as well. http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryPiece.asp?Piece=1442780 Thanks for looking! Dave K
  10. These auctions begin ending tomorrow evening and with no reserves many will sell so far. A lot of watchers kicking the tires so hopefully they will become buyers. But about half the auctions end Wednesday evening Pacific, and the other half ends Thursday evening Pacific. I also listed 3 covers by Andrew Mangum on his behalf, from some of his featured cover work for Action Lab Danger Zone. Those 3 end Friday night and all start under $100! Thanks for looking!
  11. *UPDATED this post to current!* I recently put a ton of art on eBay in an attempt to thin out the portfolios and also raise money toward post-Christmas recovery lol. I listed a ton of no reserve, 7-day auctions that started today at 3pm Pacific. All artwork from the '90s to present, and all starting at super low prices so a single bid can win it. Mostly non-Marvel and DC independent art, some new and old Chaos Comics's art, and early Wildstorm/Image stuff. Highlights include 5 Evil Ernie covers from the new Chaos and a few trading card auctions for 90's Chaos art, 2 Stormwatch covers by Scott Clark and Renato Arlem, a Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season 8 cover by Georges Jeanty, 4 Burn Notice covers by Tony Shasteen (based on the USA Network TV show), an Adam Hughes Indiana Jones sketch card a, some trading card art by Bo Hampton, and so much more! There are 15 covers (many under $100 to start!), 5 trading card art pieces, some great interior pages, Encyclopedia Brown Book Illustrations, pinups, a bunch of sketch cards, some signed or remarked limited prints, and a couple old sketches too. Super affordable art by Adam Hughes, Scott Clark, Simon Bisley, Joyce Chin, Stephen Segovia, Nei Ruffino, Renato Arlem, Justiniano, Georges Jeanty, Bo Hampton, Tony Shasteen, Steven Russell Black, Jonboy Meyers, Dan Brereton, James O'Barr, Mielan Zebrowski, Steve Ellis, and many more. https://www.ebay.com/sch/madman1138/m.html Thanks for looking! 13. This is the Comic Art Marketplace forum, for selling art. Maybe try posting this to the Original Comic Art forum, where it may get more eyes? This is definitely outside my wheelhouse and I can't help. Good luck!
  14. Not sure on the comments, but I remember that Bill changed the CAF settings some years back to only allow one view per IP address, so constantly refreshing the page wouldn't add to people's view counts. (Some people were abusing it to get their amateur art onto the main page for top viewed art) So now the view counts are more accurate, which does give the appearance of less views.
  15. That's awesome that it was found! Always love to hear happy endings like this.
  16. Your best bet is usually friends in the hobby that are attending the show to pick up, as it is a lot to ask for something like this, especially when it's Cho, Campbell, AH!, etc. But without the personal connections, I'd recommend you use someone like http://www.comicsketchart.com/ who specifically do these kind of pickups for a fee. Doug is good people and I believe he gets good access to Frank's sketch covers. But as mentioned above Frank's sketch covers are very pricey. But just reach out to Doug and he'll take care of you. Good luck!
  17. I am also leery of bidding on private auctions. It seems most of the forgery sellers use that method on their listings so you can't look up their past items when checking their feedback. I can't even think of another reason you'd want to do a private listing otherwise. I don't see how it protects bidders, like the sellers that use them say. Since eBay started blanking out the bidder IDs years ago there is less chance of warning potential bidders and it only makes it harder to catch shill bidding and forgery sellers that fly under the radar.
  18. For me it depends how I came to the piece. If I am searching for art by a certain artist and check out other people's incredible pieces by that artist, I almost always comment. Same with clicking on the email links in the CAF Premium newsletters, because those are all keyword pieces for me. And of course I comment on my friends pieces, whether I would want the piece or not because I have very eclectic tastes and can appreciate art of all kinds even if I wouldn't care to own it myself. But honestly, I don't really need a reason to comment and just leave one when I feel moved to do so, which can be often. It costs us nothing and you are there anyways, plus it makes people feel good about their collections to get comments. It's all about community, after all.
  19. Bruce uses a blue pencil to sketch his stuff out and uses animation paper usually, which is thinner than artboards. But sometimes he uses cardstock and sometime vellum, like this sounds like. But they are all usually 8 1/2 x 11. I have a similar piece that is full figure, blue pencil & inks on vellum (tracing paper) that you can see here. http://www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiece.asp?piece=1360473 But yours looks totally legit to me, and it's a nice piece. I hope that helps!
