Sorry, Mike. I'd only be willing to sell if I had a duplicate, which I do not. If I do end up with an under copy you will be the first to know. Best of luck in your hunt. Have you managed to pick up any Canadian TECs lately?

Thanks Brian, I appreciate it. Nothing new lately.....only reasonable offer I had was a Tec 140 (raw 1.8 ish) but I already have a copy. I know of a couple in Halifax but fortunately they are WAY overpriced. I did ask my mom about the Colonel Ernie books. She remembers seeing them but that's about it.

I have several Canadian DC books in my collection and they seem to come up for sale relatively often. In terms of the main superhero imports during FECA, I would suggest that the Anglo-American Captain Marvels are more common than the DC superhero books from National Comic Publications of Canada. The trouble is that Simcoe picked up the rights to the DC books a bit later on. In my opinion, the Simcoe books are rarer than the National ones. There always seems to be at least a couple of DC superhero books available for sale.

The Bell Features Timely superhero books (Blonde Phantom, Marvel Boy and Marvel Mystery Comics), as well as their Plastic Man comics, seem to be harder to track down than any of the DC reprints. That said, the Superior Timely reprints of Captain America Comics, Sub-Mariner and Human Torch are really tough to find. You might have to wait months or even a year sometimes for any of these to pop up. I once intended to work on the Blonde Phantom run and the Captain America Comics run, but they are so scarce that I've pretty much given up.

I know that fellow boardie (and I assume fellow Atlantic Canadian) Tbone911t has been trying to put together a run of Canadian Detectives for a while. I'm not sure how he has been making out. One thing that's for sure is that the bulk of my FECA superhero books are DCs and I still manage to pick them up locally from time to time. For some reason I don't have any copies of Action or Superman though.

I don't want to give anyone the impression that I have a large number of these books. I only have eight, but I've picked all of them up in Nova Scotia or New Brunswick in the past two and a half years and they are not my focus. I'll buy them if I see them, but I am not actively searching for them. Sadly, my Batman 52 is missing two centre wraps.

On the back, in the scan it looks like a color break spine bend near the 'Agent 13' but in the pics it looks like a bend, no color break.  Little bit of color wear on the bottom front right.  Spine corners are a littl rounded.  Other than that, I don't see spine tics on the front (maybe a small second one on the back under the bend/crease one), and the non spine corners look good.  I'd give it: (8.0) (scroll over) as is, and maybe get a bump from pressing.  I can't say the last part with authority though

Thanks. It is a bend. No color break.

On a backer board in a mylar sleeve mildly compressed flat and out of sunlight in a nice cool place would be my choice. Having them out where you can see them has an extractive cost.  Again, It's not a four or five figure book. Enjoy it. You can get higher quality glassine pieces at Staples that can likely seal it a bit better but it would put them in a binder.

It does seem to me that the term"Dust Shadow" is really an oxidation of the paper due to temperature and potential exposure to light causing the browning tone. Is that essentially correct?

    As per Overstreet -

Dust Shadow = Darker, usually linear area at the edge of some comics stored in stacks. Some portion of the cover was not covered by the comic immediately above it and it was exposed to settling dust particles.

Oxidation Shadow = Darker, usually linear area at the edge of some comics stored in stacks. Some portion of the cover was not covered by the comic immediately above it and it was exposed to the air.

Sun Shadow = Darker, usually linear area at the edge of some comics stored in stacks. Some portion of the cover was not covered by the comic immediately above it and it suffered prolonged exposure to the light. A serious defect, unlike a Dust shadow, which can sometimes be removed.

Very nice book. Square bound are tough. I'm at 9.0

Here's probably my favourite Owen McCarron comic: "Colonel Ernie Comics" # 2. Ernie Edwards was a close friend of Colonel Sanders and was one of the first franchisees of KFC in Canada. He brought KFC to Halifax and by the time this comic came out had eight locations. He commissioned McCarron to create a comic for him in 1965. This follow-up was published in 1968 and is essentially a photo comic insofar as McCarron used head shots of Colonel Ernie and drew everything else. Ernie Edwards died in 2008 at age 91. His flagship KFC on Quinpool road still exists, though it has undergone several renovations since the 1960s. The "Abdominal" Snowman haunts my dreams592728b613f7d_ColonelErnieComics2.thumb.jpg.44f313c4adefb603a5ba36d8af94eeec.jpg592728c423b44_ColonelErnieComics2(BackCover).thumb.jpg.4a33d74a43b52b0069c1e0c370548b85.jpg

Here are some pictures of the flagship KFC, as it existed when this comic came out:

Very cool! My mom worked for Ernie Edwards for many years. The Town and Country was located where the KFC/Taco Bell on Quinpool road is. I'll have to ask her is she has seen or is aware of these books.

  6. I'd buy it, but only in person. $5000 is only about $1000 under GPA, so with fees, etc it seems possibly legit.  I got a IH 181 9.6, MSL 5 9.4 x 2, etc off kijiji (Canadian equivalent to Craigslist) at well below FMV.
