So $235 later, to get the 'same' grade?  You can put lipstick on a pig, but that doesn't fix the color breaking creases.  And Marvel chipping is looking more and more like leprosy.

You're right....Lipstick on a pig. Spent $300 actually, not $235, on a book that if I sold today would make $5000+ in 6 months......man that Marvel chipping sucks. Bahahaha

Like I said above you guys can buy them all I don't want a single one in my collection. CBCS does not equal CGC and most collectors know that and saying that they do is not right because new collectors will start to believe that when it's not the case.

    #1 CGC

    #2 CBCS

    #3 PGX

    Don't think I said cbcs equals cgc. I said if I can get a $14k book for $9k I don't give a what holder it's in. I can/will resubmit. Why hate?

I based myself on comments on this board about CBCS. You guys can buy CBCS graded books I will continue to pass on them as I am sure many others will as well.

Funny I talk about CBCS everyone and their mother come and blast me but when another member says the exact same thing everyone and their mother jumps on the hate CBCS wagon.

You like CBCS buy them you can have them all I don't want a single one of them. CGC is #1 in the hobby and trying to say CBCS is it's equal is one big lie (newer collectors and no so new collectors should know this before buying a CBCS graded book and thinking they got a great deal....if it looks to good to be true then most likely it is)!!

For me CBCS = a junk grading company simple as that. Those that what to lie to themselves can go right ahead it's not my money your spending/wasting.

This line of thinking will have you totally missing some great deals. Buy the book not the label!

I bought an AF 15 cbcs 3.5 in January for under 9000! Spent like 400 on cpr and guess what? I got a cgc 3.5....

I think whoever bought the "weak" cbcs 8.5 last year would agree.

So far, the advice I've gotten has been really sound. At this point, I'm contacting the presser in Sarasota and will take about 20-25 books there for his opinion on what is worth pressing. Then, it's over to CGC to have some of the higher dollar ones graded. I'm joining GPAnalysis for a few months and have pretty much decided that the AF15 should go to auction. Deciding on the auction house is now the issue. I don't need the money desperately at all so I have the luxury of time. If the book indeed pulls a 7.5 and I think it certainly could, it takes things to a new level. I do not believe it can pull an 8 over the simple issue of off white pages. Everything else would be good. Somehow restoring it doesn't appeal to me. It's so beautiful now.

The other books help pull the over all value up, particularly the spidey 129's of which there are two . The iron man 55 is excellent. Luke Cage #1, blah blah blah. The ones I hold more dear are the 84-90 journey into mystery and I will have them slabbed. The FF4 group may get slabbed but it remains to see what that costs on books of more marginal value.

Someone asked about the prices. I really get taken literally too much. When I said that it was a 15 cent biz, I was waxing eloquent. Much of what I bought on the newsstand was .15 cents. I got some at .20. Way back, I got some at .12. When I was a little boy, it was a dime.

One person wanted my xmen and I simply quoted Overstreet as a starter and that seemed to really put him off a bit. . If I sold off a title, I would sell the whole title that I own. As many have said, "Don't get cherry picked"

Thank you all who have been so generous with your time and knowledge. The Internet is really quite an amazing thing. High tech info at your fingertips with an ample dash of bandits.

.One of my favorite ads from an early book on the back cover is "Amaze your Friends! Become popular and the life of the Party! LEARN TO PLAY THE PIANO!

Wondering if you ever got your AF 15 back? Did you get the 7.5 you'd hoped for?

    * edit - I see the grade above now.

Well, all I can say is that this CGC 3.5 looks completely different from the GA 3.0's and 3.5's that were coming out from the Sarasota factory during the latter part of 2016.  :whatthe:

Maybe they forgot to look at the right edge of this book or is this simply considered to be Marvel chipping and ignored when it comes to determining the final grade.  (shrug)

    Or maybe it's just a swing back to the soft grading period and time to submit books to CGC again.  hm

Was only graded last week. If you see the other books I had done (General - back from CGC) they seem pretty bang on what the consensus was in the PGM threads and what I felt they would grade out at. They hammered my HOS 92 for tanning that's for sure. Seems they don't down grade the MC as bad. Here the notes from CGC :

Heavy marvel chipping full right of front cover

    Light readers crease front cover

light, multiple crease full top of front cover breaks color

light, multiple crease left top of back cover

light, multiple crease right bottom of back cover

light, multiple crease right bottom of front cover breaks color

very small, multiple tear full bottom of back cover
