    Hi all,

It's been a while since I've visited and have mostly lurked, but I wanted to give folks a heads-up that I have my Tomb of Terror 16 on eBay. It's a low-grade reader copy, but is intact and presents nicely. Unfortunately my phone died so I only have the pic of the FC right now. I should be able to get some BC and interior shots in the next day or so.

Wow. A 9.8 HOS #92 is over 2x the cost of a 9.8 IH #181 now. While I can understand the scarcity factor and love Wrightson's artwork, it amazes me at how far this book has run up for featuring a second or third tier character's first appearance.

Horror comics are less about character popularity and more about striking visuals --  especially iconic covers. HOS 92 has that in spades.

Fortunately, my Mox's and Lotus, time walk plus all of my duel lands were unlimited.  All were pretty heavily played too, as they were purchased by me from another player who was selling out after Stronghold came out.  That makes me feel a little better.

But, I had really nice alpha and beta versions of Time Vault, Time Twister, Ancestral Recall, Gauntlet of Might, Forcefield, Chaos Orb, etc.

Not as bad as it could be, but still enough to make you wince. But almost every Magic player that had the old cards has a story like that. Very few actually held onto all of them through thick and thin. Life happens, your interests drift, and their value at the time becomes a resource you can put toward other things. C'est la vie 9_9

I had a whole set of MtG between Alpha, Beta, and Unlimited, plus much of the Arabian Nights and Legends expansions.  I had four of each duel land, one of each of the power nine, and probably four of anything that was allowed in Type I tournaments.  (When you are single and in the Army, you have a TON of disposable income.) ...Fast-forward to 2011 and I received a $5000 stipend from my job.  I thought I would reacquire some of those cards.  Looking on ebay quickly showed that that amount would not be near enough.  I'm sure it is much worse now.

Oh, it's worse :(  Without knowing what you had in terms of Alpha, Beta, and Unlimited, Even if you had the cheapest versions of all of that stuff, you're easily around $25k counting the 40 duals and the partial AN and LG sets. When you start upgrading the Unlimited stuff to Alpha and Beta, we could be talking double that figure or more depending on how much of it you had and which cards were A/B. Alpha has finally come into its own in the MTG collector world, as everyone now recognizes just how rare that first print run is.

  5. I think in the long term you did fine, regardless of the book's current value. However, I would NOT have Stan sign the book, nor Ian McDiarmid (doesn't appear until Jedi). I would consider adding David Prowse (Vader). Harrison Ford is also an auto-include, but likely not possible. Hopefully you love the franchise, because that's a cool book/sigs regardless of value.

I used to play and collect Magic the Gathering, but sold my collection a few years back. I did keep a few cards for posterity. This is one of the earliest ones I kept. I think this is a "Revised Edition" Underground Sea from 1994.

Well, that was a good one to keep! Around $300 now give or take.

  7. I'm a big Magic: The Gathering player and collector. Much bigger than comics, actually. Lately, I've been selling off my comics to buy more of the original Magic cards from the first few sets. Speaking of which, if anybody has old (1993-1994 era) Magic cards that they'd like to trade for comics or even cash, hit me up lol  Here are a few pick-ups from earlier this year:

...And really, none of us knew him personally and so why behave like a close relative or friend was maligned?

Well, he's may favorite comic artist (considering the entirety of his work) and created my favorite character in Swamp Thing. I got the chance to meet him shortly before his health took its last downward turn, and was bowled over by how nice he was. After the last tumor discovery and subsequent surgery, I followed his progress closely and (like many others) posted words of encouragement when his wife Liz would give us all updates on Bernie's Facebook page. So while he wasn't a personal friend, there was a personal connection.

    That's why.

  9. Looks like the entire "starburst" of creasing on the spine between the "12 cents" and the first word bubble has been colored brown with marker. I'm thinking Spiderturtle is right.

EDIT: On further inspection, it appears to me that almost all of the creasing in the brown section has the brown marker touch-up.

  10. Saw the movie with my wife and son yesterday, and we had a great time! It was just a fun movie.

I really appreciated the smaller scale of the film as well as its heart. They did a good job making Peter's teen struggles feel real, and Keaton's Vulture made for a great semi-sympathetic villain. Zendaya's character was great; I hope that she actually turns out to be the new MJ! The comic book version of Mary Jane has been done, and it's tired. Besides, gimme a snarky nerd-girl any day of the week :)  My wife even enjoyed it, and she's admittedly sick of superhero movies (didn't even see Civil War). Overall, time and money well-spent.
