Hi Guys,
So what are the "Mylar" bags that I have been seeing recertify that look like 4 mil, don't require a backing board and have a flap? Thanks for any feedback! I am trying to skip the backing boards and like to see the reverse of the book....

I think most of all of us Gold collectors could be in that club!! part of it that makes it fun for me is I have to face the fact I can’t really afford it all (at least at once) so I have to make important choices and weigh options at any given time!! Feed my children or buy a sweeeeet book hehehehe JK!!
Hi gino2paulus2,
If you are still looking for an ANC 8 there's one on Heritage:

Didn't know this one. The only good Hitler cover that I saw so far.
It's a different style but this one is not bad either if you haven't seen it:

It's an awesome cover! I read in the last year or two that the cover is by Reed Crandall -- I never knew that but I can totally see it. The cool lighting/shading on the Devil's face at that very distinctive angle looks straight out of one of his classic EC stories.
Didn't know this! Thanks for sharing Point Five!

On the short list of my very favorite comics. And given all the down results so far I think $19,200 is a pretty respectable number for that book.
The interior art of this is amazing also

Tax-loss harvesting?
(Not solely; just in the mix too)
I was thinking this or could it possibly even be dare I say it money laundering?

What does everyone think of the relatively high number of very high value comics being flipped in the recent past with big losses? Need for cash, not reading the market correctly or something more ominous?

Having had both the prints and the comics, the prints were much more enjoyable to own. The only issue is that when I did rotate these on the wall, I had to have different size mattes cut to fit each print in the same frame.
@BFA1971 Please PM me if interested
That's awesome thanks will send PM. Thanks for reaching out!

In a video prior to the HA auction for the Batman 251 cover, he definitely questioned the authenticity of the art. But also (as I posted in a different topic)...
Its nuts I wonder if someone else was making money off of the situation and hence instigating this? Crazy especially as its provenance was proven I imagine. Definitely does not give me a warm fuzzy feeling.

I thought it was such a terrible thing for Neal to say that he would provide authentication on the covers being auctioned off -- FOR A CUT OF THE SALE -- that I sold off and traded away every single piece of Neal Adams art I ever owned, covers and all.
I did not know this. This sounds terrible and sorry to hear this This happened to you? Were these pieces of art that were taken from him or he sold off and then ended up elsewhere?

The Vampirella sketch is on the website now for $3500. Who am I to say that's a tad aspirational.
$3500 ea. x 43 = $150,500
The true loss is the artists time and effort. Poor Neal probably never got over that sick feeling. Unless..... if the vampirella is not reproduced but the original drawing.
Maybe he got them back? I'm not inspired to investigate this, but will gladly read here if anyone had legit info.
It looks too like the Spiderman might have been reproduced as well if that's the case (not sure when the theft occurred) such as the one that had sold on Heritage:

Not true at all.
I think the Kirby splash you’ve shown is absolutely fugly, but I’ll take McFarlane’s exaggerated ‘mistakes’ any day of the week!
This is an action (cover) splash!

Kirby had his hand on so many things from 1940's-1990's. Superheroes, Romance, Westerns, Crime, Monsters, back to Superheroes, etc. He had a hand in creating a ton of characters & even the genres themselves! I'm struggling to think of 1 thing Adams actually created. He was good at advancing the art of already established entities, but created almost none by comparison.
Artistically they are too different to compare. You either like the styles they implemented or you didn't. I appreciate both!
Hi Timely! I can see you are a fan of Schomburg. If you had to pick one cover which would it be?

It's tough to compare artists of different generations. If Neal sees farther, it is partly because he stands on Kirby's shoulders. I always enjoyed Adams' moody lighting effects in the 70s, and his art retained an admirable level of detail even recently. So I choose him, which in no way diminishes Kirby's crucial role as an industry innovator in genre formation, character creation, layout, posing, and the rest.
A recent Adams Batman (RIP)

Here we are, well into 2024 and from what I can see Silver Age Comics, in general, are still falling in value. I'm not talking about those ebay sales that some websites treat as gospel. I'm talking about sites like Comicconnect and Comiclink, etc, who give a different view of online comic sales.
From current auctions by both the above, many comics are selling significantly below published figures. Some by as much as 50% and others somewhat less. The true trend in Silver Age comics is continuing downward, from what I can see here.
Could it be that many buyers have left the market and there is less competition at auction hence, comics get picked up for less? I think this is so.
Some say, buy now because prices are lower but, on the other hand, do you really want to put your cash into a collapsing market. Its a dilemma, in my opinion.
Does anyone feel the same ?
Colin
I think they will go below 2019 prices for many issues. Maybe not the mega keys as people will buy when they perceive a good deal is on.. they might bottom out at pre-covid prices for the mega keys but the others I feel will fall below. I can see it in many non mega key issues I wonder if many collectors are selling their Silver and Bronze and getting out or switching to buying a few Golden Age keys for many Silver....?
