  1. It doesn't surprise me. Most people described in the OP don't know anything about comics. At all. They know enough to do a quick search on Ebay and see a version of their comic selling for mega $$$ and assume that's what it's worth. They don't know about grading (for the most part), they don't know about CGC/slabs, very few get the concept of "second prints"... and biggest of all, they don't get that the SELLING price on Ebay is not what it is actually worth. I've tried to explain to some folks that I can list a musty rag on Ebay for $15k, but that doesn't mean it's worth that much. Once some folks get an idea in their head, it's nearly impossible to convince them otherwise. Unfortunately, evidence is only valuable if the person is willing to accept it. I've looked at a few Craigslist collections and known immediately that they had nothing but dollar bin dreck at best. Some get it, most don't. It is what it is.
  2. What do you guys think of the grade on this Voldy book? It's a 4.0 OW/W. I'm thinking this is more in the 3.5 range than 4.0. 3. Purchased Nova #1 CGC 9.6. Fair price, well packaged, awesome deal all around! A+ Thanks!!!
  4. It's also on Ebay for $10k. Are CL fees higher than Ebay?
  5. Just a quick update, if anyone was curious about this detour from three weeks ago. I got my Avengers 4 grade back from CGC. It was a CBCS 6.5. I cracked it, had it pressed... and it came back a 6.0... haha My streak is officially over! I'm a little bummed, but a .5 loss isn't the end of the world on this book. It is interesting that my previous CBCS resubmissions were small fry books in comparison and they all received a .5 bump ,while this when went down the same amount. And this one was pressed! I also had an FF4 CGC 4.0 get bumped up to a 5.0, so I think I'll survive the disappointment.
  6. *runs, buys every copy of Kid Colt 106 on Ebay...*
  7. Three submissions. No fast track. No pre-screen. STANDARD (2 books) - 10 Business Days 4/5 - Verified 4/14 - Graded 4/17 - Quality Control 4/18 - Shipped/Safe ECONOMY (7 books) 4/5 - Verified 5/4 - Scheduled for Grading 5/5 - Graded 5/11 - Quality Control VALUE (15 books) 4/5 - Verified 5/4 - Scheduled for Grading 5/5 - Graded 5/10 - Quality Control
  8. This 4.0 was on Amazon for $22k up until a week or so ago. Seller has zero feedback. Hmm.... http://www.ebay.com/itm/ORIGINAL-Amazing-Fantasy-15-CGC-4-0-Graded-Comic-BOOK-/262931989581?hash=item3d37f7c44d:g:CBAAAOSwpkFY7D30
  9. If I've learned anything from this thread... wait six months and it'll be worth $30k
  10. I was the underbidder on this copy... missed it by [---] thiiiis much...
  11. It looks oddly faded... or is that just the photo quality?
  12. Being pressed now, so I won't know what it ends up being for about a month or so I would imagine. It was a CBCS 6.5. I'm just hoping it stays at least a 6.5... I'm not expecting miracles
  13. brain fart on my part. I meant submitter, not presser. I submitted through a local comic shop until last month when I just went ahead and got my own account. I experimented with cracking the ToS 52 myself and ended up gouging my kitchen table with a screwdriver. I've since figured out how to do it and cracked my Avengers 4, ASM 6 and 15 myself with no issues.
  14. haha they were! I also had a Hulk 1 graded during the same period that was graded very generously, in my opinion. Maybe that has more to do with it than anything.
  15. I have everything pressed now. Of the old CBCS books, only the Daredevil was pressed. Sorry for hijacking the thread gang!
  16. Sorry guys, no other photo evidence. I wasn't really planning on conducting a scientific analysis! However, I did take tons of photos of the Avengers 4, ASM 6 and 15. But they are being pressed, so I'm not sure how valuable that info will be. To be 100% honest, while I've been a collector for many many years, the whole pressing thing was relatively new to me until early last year. I didn't know that was done. And I came into some CBCS books through local trades. I prefer CGC overall (and am a bit OCD), so am in process of sending them all to CGC.
  17. I understand the skepticism, but I honestly have no reason to lie. No benefit for me at all. Just sharing my experience. I only have the old label for ToS 52. The others were cracked by the presser (CBCS slabs are a pain in the ), so I didn't keep those.
  18. Swamp Thing #1 - 8.0 to 8.5 Tales of Suspense #52 - 5.0 to 5.5 Tales of Suspense #57 - 5.0 to 5.5 Daredevil #158 - 9.0 to 9.6 (This one was pressed, so bit of a skew here) Amazing Spider-Man #238 - 9.2 to 9.6 Marvel Super-Heroes #13 - 7.0 to 7.5 These aren't exactly mind-blowing differences in grades, but they signal to me that the grades are very close in general and likely within the margin of error. I don't know what happened with ASM 238, but I'm not complaining. I also have an Avengers 4, ASM 6 and 15 that are former CBCS books being pressed and resubmitted. No idea how those will turn out.
  19. I can't speak for anyone else's experience, but I've had CBCS books. I prefer CGC, so I cracked them and resubmitted them to CGC.... and every single one of them came back with a higher grade. Six total CBCS books... six total grade increases.
  20. I only need issue #5 to complete my run! Just holding out for the right copy...
  21. Someone was watching the auction results. http://www.ebay.com/itm/AMAZING-FANTASY-15-CGC-4-5-VG-1st-App-Spider-Man-OW-W-No-Mvl-Chipping-/201860945307?hash=item2effd9959b:g:F0IAAOSwzgBY0Kzg 4.5 just listed on Ebay for $35,500 BIN
  22. I was referring to VintageComics other post I'm kinda bummed. I think I've been priced out of a 4.0 now
