Oh man, what a nightmare....fingers crossed the grade doesn't drop....

:wishluck:...I have this bad feeling it’s gonna show up as 9.0 or worse. I hate to think it but what if it was damaged when they removed it from its original case and now I’m getting the big screw.

My reholders received on the 20th were shipped on the 8th.  I guess not many people are reholdering books, even with all that person_without_enough_empathying about the newton rings! lol

Sent in a book for reholder (it had a crack) mid August and received an email stating the books condition does not match CGC grading standards for its given grade (9.6). So I was told it had to be regraded or returned as is. The book is also a pedigree so I wanted the new pedigree designation label. I had to submit under the value tier so instead of waiting 2-3 weeks I’m waiting 5-6 months. Don’t know what could’ve happened to the book to make the grade drop but whatever.

Wasn’t my thing. I went to see it for Phoenix and got exactly what I expected. Not getting the comparison to taxi driver, or any other Scorsese movie for that matter. I liked the cinematography and a couple (no more) of the scenes there; 1 when joker made his first kill, 2 when he made his third kill (does that make me a violent person?)

I think the movie needed either more of a steady pace to compare to Scorsese or stronger lines/dialogs. As it was, it felt like it was CONSTANTLY getting somewhere but never did. It didn’t go deep enough for me.

I agree with what people said here that it’s a shame it was only an origin story, it would have been brilliant if there were more action scenes, definitely in the vein of taxi driver’s Action finale. Realistic looking ones taken in interesting angles.

Also there needed to be a hero/villain element which never really happened with this movie. It was Arthur with a bunch of supporting characters (Thomas Wayne, Murray Franklin, the two cops...), either one of those should have been expanded and built up in The Joker, as the relationship between him and them never really developed intensely enough.

by next year this movie will be a flash in the pan, and in the next few years I doubt people will even remember that there was a movie based on a strong DC comic book character which added nothing to its cinematic universe.

A total miss (and a very unfortunate one at that)

ouch bro...harsh review. “A total miss”? Just because you didn’t like it doesn’t mean that. It will definitely be remembered for years to come just like the Dark Knight. :sumo:

  4. Becoming a “trade waiter” has made new books a lot more fun for me. I roll my eyes real hard at those that say moderns suck. Nah, man, you just don’t care to give different ones a chance. So be it I guess. Be an old grouch. There’s still real talent and great stories out there. Now, if it’s a $$$ thing I understand. Those 4.99 cover prices do suck.

I really enjoy watching Omnidogs Vault on YouTube, he’s a guy in his 60’s who grew up on silver age comics and loved them but also collects new books and loves them too.

I would caution those who haven't seen it yet to keep expectations lower than these reviews with 10/10 and "great"... because it is true for some, but there is no way everyone will enjoy this movie that much.  Even The Godfather averages about 8/10, so expect plenty of legitimate 6's to go with those legitimate 10's.

Agreed, I know it’s not a film for everyone and obviously brings up a lot of controversial points. If I wanted to get critical and nit picky I could find ways to give it a 9/10. But as I said, I just felt Joaquin’s performance was so good I had to give it a perfect score.

  6. 10/10 from me. I loved this movie. Phoenix is brilliant. One of the best performances I’ve ever seen. It made me feel unsure at first but after acclimating to his awkwardness I really enjoyed it. There were moments that seem to have went on too long but I think that’s just part of the films whole vibe and not a mistake. I didn’t think any movie would compete with Tarantino’s “Once Upon...” for my movie of the year but it comes pretty darn close.

I’m so happy for Joaquin. He truly “went there” and gave a legendary character a true dedication. Who knows what Heath would’ve gave us if he had his own Joker movie. He’ll always be remembered. But Joaquin is the new Joker. Just perfect.
