  1. Did a boardie pick up that Fight #12 on CL just now? I tried and failed. The book went for quite the tidy price.
  2. Call me naive (okay, I hear you!), but is it common what you’re suggesting, that the book’s owner can and does bid up his/her own book? That just sounds wrong on so many levels. Surely the owner could just set a reserve... And are you saying this practice would be more common at CL than at CC or HA precisely because CL doesn’t make their sales data public? Why would that be the case?
  3. Great book Rick! I saw this cover for the first time in its OA form at the Metropolis ‘Berk night’ and have loved it ever since!
  4. Nice looking book! How does he get the tiger to do that?
  5. Yes, but those funny animals are up to some crazy hijinks that no self-respecting funny animal should be doing!
  6. Thanks for the good read!! ACE definitely had the monopoly on pushing evil and gruesomeness to its limits. In that one issue, there’s “a holocaust of blood and carnage,” a hanging, an electric chair, a beheading, a skeleton with a scythe, a mining disaster, and a suicidal nazi maniac. And that’s just the splash pages!
  7. Thanks for that historical info. Very interesting stuff.
  8. Beautiful book Gino! I applaud your cracking it out. And seeing as how you cracked it out, surely there must be an interior page or two worth posting on them here boards?
  9. Great score! It looks like they're having such a civilized meeting together, or, wondering when they can leave. The perspective is interesting, like they're posing for their inaugural group photo. But who is taking the photo is what I want to know!?!
  10. Cool stuff! Any reason why these were so small? Was there much of a print run? Was it typical not to use a heavier glossed paper for the cover? Inquiring minds want to know!
  11. I think it partly depends on how “underrated” is defined. I assume you mean issues that don’t get the attention they might deserve. Or, “underrated” as in issues off the radar, selling at lukewarm prices that might be good investments. Of course the two definitions often end up being the same thing... But going with the lack-of-attention hypothesis, I’d suggest Planet 38. It has a nice color palette with rich background green, a fantastically floating female combatant, and nutty GA gaping dino-monsters with an impressive display of their soft palate. Plus a Saturday morning page 1 splash by Thornecliffe Herrick, er, L. Renée.
  12. That’s a really sweet pick up! I’m guessing there’s not much Feldstein OA out there... Do you have the comic book to match?
  13. Thanks for the reply. Is there a CCD scanner you would recommend?
  14. Update: the HP 7740 is on sale again, down to $179 from retail price of $249. Has anyone confirmed that this printer can scan slabbed comics in focus?
  15. Terrific! You can almost smell the dinosaur's breath. Thanks for sharing!!
  16. Hey Rick, I thought that book was one of your "I shalt never part with this book" sort of books?
  17. Good ol’ dog. From the crowd of people in the background of the photo, it looks the 3 of you are at a comic con! Here’s my 8-1/2 year old pooch, a terrier mutt mid-chew.
  18. Neat stuff! Your collection knows no bounds.
  19. Another nice accomplishment! Like Victor Fox before you, you're the King of (Fox) comics these days!
  20. Now that's funny! Tell me that's your cute doggy!
  21. Exactly? Looks like a page from Classics Illustrated, or maybe Jungle Comics, from early in the printing run with BRIGHT colors!
  22. Such a great copy! Yeah, it's something about the color palette and the fearsome dinos and the prehistoric swamp that just knocks this book out of the park. Hey Kelly, want some help fixing your Photobucket-crashed sig line? PM me if you're interested.
