  1. Here’s your ace reporter checking in! I attended C2E2 on Friday and Saturday. Chicago was in the midst of a cold spell (temps in the mid 20’s to mid-30’s), but it was warm inside the convention center I can promise you that! The weather still froze the noses off of the good dealers hailing from points south. There was a good range of GA books on show, and many of the major dealers were present. In no particular order: Bedrock, High Grade Comics, Harley, Worldwide, Greg Reece, Al Stoltz, Dale Roberts, Tomorrow’s Treasures, Metropolis, New Force, Terry’s Comics, Superworld, Graham Crackers. Apologies if I’ve forgotten a few. There were two real highlights of the show for me First, I got to meet some epic boardies for the first time, including mwotka (see above for his ace reporting!), Electron, and FriscoLarson. All great guys. And the second highlight was landing a ballpoint pen from Heritage! Gino asked for wallbooks. Yessir, we’ve got wallbooks! But first, a few anthropological pics of C2E2: Turns out that Galactus is much shorter in person. Yikes. Artistic shot. Don’t know who he’s supposed to be, but I think someone famous? Ah, Miyazaki!! (with Dr. Strange?????) Nice attention to detail. He uses a wristwatch, go figure! This last one’s my fav of the bunch.
  2. Good to know! Any more info on this ped? How many books? I assume all the books had the pub date year on them... Any other identifying marks? Looks like @szavisca really stepped into a great book. ?
  3. Tremendous accomplishment Jason! So many high grade books in that run of yours. A true inspiration to us Planeteers trying to complete our runs.
  4. I can’t answer all your questions, but can speculate on some of them! Regarding the stiffness, if I understand correctly, the front cover feels heavier? If so, this could be compatible with the idea that your copy was printed early on the printing press. The early copies tended to be more loaded down and saturated with ink and color. Based on the rich colors on your book (especially the reds), I think this is possible. I learned about this phenomenon from Jeremy (aka Soft Serve) on the boards when I bought my Planet #45 from him. As for the interior cover, it doesn’t look so tan. That said, how page quality is assigned remains unclear to me. Is the page quality based on the average of all the pages (I don’t think so). Is it based on the range between best and worst, e.g., “off-white to tan”? Or is it based on the dominant/majority page quality? I’d love to hear more from other boardies about this. The 49, actually, ‘49. It’s likely this just refers to the year of publication (April 1949), jotted down by a busybody, though maybe another boardie might recognize this as something more exotic! Lastly: re pressing and slabbing, go for it, especially if you want to sell it. But if you really like the book and the opportunity to read it whenever the fancy strikes, then there’s no need to press and slab IMHO. Just put it in two layers of Mylar and you have a gorgeous book!
  5. Holy Fort Knox! (they still keep gold there I think)
  6. Cool book! Another marvelous cover I've never seen before.
  7. Hey Lou. That article is a great read. Fascinating. Though these days, no one is really batting an eye over ever-escalating prices. $200K for All-Star #3, CGC 8.5? Maybe so! $6K for Subby 17, CGC 6.5 Well, okay!
  8. Yessir! And a “crack attack” is the best way to enjoy those pages!
  9. And while we’re on the topic of Rick’s amazing Planet 47, here’s a few interior shots:
  10. Well, as they say, in space no one hears you scream, and as they also say, in space it gets really cold and you should always have a powder blue fur-lined coat on hand!
  11. Great copy! I haven't really taken notice of this book before. But now that I do: Swipe!?! And not just any swipe. A swipe of a classic! It's not perfect of course, but the parts are all there: a leading man (looking right rather than left) oblivious to the danger lurking in the upper right section of the scene his poise and steady, unruffled expression his head wrap (khaki aviator helmet rather than green mask) his gun blasting at something out of view, and not at the imminent threat the aforementioned danger, involving a baddie with a bladed weapon a blonde lady hoisted on the leading man's shoulder (head up rather than head down) (ropes around feet rather than hands) (awake rather than comatose) I know it's a bit of a stretch, but plausible. Or maybe I just got MM3 on the brain!
  12. Nice! Is "Drew Murdoch's Ghost Gallery" everything as promised? Spooky scary?
  13. Now that’s some glowing Space Detective! Sea nymphs, mole women, bat women, flame women, there’s something for everyone!
  14. Maybe part of the F. Scott Fitzgerald pedigree?
  15. Outstanding. Some of those colors are unreal!! And I do always like a 17 (and 11, and 5, and...).
  16. Wow. You’re not messin’ around. That’s a spectacular looking copy!
  17. $16,730 ? $22,554 I think you guys need a new set of tarot cards, or a new crystal ball polish!
  18. Just for the record: Wonderworld #7 8.0, final hammer = $22,554. An 8.0 (presumably the same book based on only one copy on GPA) sold for $16,730 less than a year ago (August 2017)...
