I have wanted to upgrade from my 9.6 copy of this first printing for some time (only 800 copies made in 1981), but the sale prices were higher than I was willing to go. So when I saw this really nice raw copy online, I decided to give it a shot. This cover from Los Bros Hernandez represents one of the first Indy/Alternative comics of the early 80's and will be a very welcome addition to my collection.

That is Ash....signed by Len and Herb. That is Ash's preferred medium. Large Canvas and oil. Someday hopefully Jackman The Weapon X, Origin, Old Man Logan and Death of Wolverine are all signed by Jackman among others.
That makes more sense. It's a wonderful work and Len Wein and Herb Trimpe will always be comic icons.

I would disagree with your assessment. I would consider myself a collector first. I try to position myself with the best possible outcome by providing my own blanks, doing full front and back pieces to minimize stray marks, dialogue with the artist, etc....now I understand this cannot be done with pieces that have already been commissioned but I commission more art than purchase off ebay or the boards so I have hedged my bets that my piece will obtain a 9.8.
As stated in previous comments I collect for myself I do not intend or want to sell anything. So that piece will never be for sale (its dated on the back a day before he passed). I also have Hulk 181 CGC 9.8 that will never be for sale.....let alone 99% of my collection. Full color pictured below and my 181....had Stan Lee sign the case, I will never crack that book
I agree with this statement.
That Len Wein piece is amazing!

I have only a few pieces of OA, but I wanted to show this Jae Lee 9 by 12 sketch that arrived today. Earlier this month, Sketch Prices - Comic Book Sketches, Commissions & Autograph Prices (FB) reached 10,000 members and in celebration had a drawing for sketches following donations to the Hero Initiative. It is a very worthy cause and this is one of those prizes.

Lost Years #4 is one of my favorite Ty Templeton covers.

Rich,
Is the Doomsday Clock #3 Variant available?

These books were kind of fun to collect and add to my Batman Adventures registry. Since it is not a series that was kept (or likely wanted) by many, three of the 5 copies are the only ones ever graded by CGC. In addition, the #1 has only one other 9.8 and the #5 is the only 9.8 . Thank you to the amazing Mollie for helping to add these editions to the CGC Registry.

Still a very young 55.

I would put higher value books in a 2nd floor corner over a SDB. Your bank next door neighbor is most likely a mid 20th century land deed. Your OW-W copy will now be Cr-OW.
-
I would not put any of those books in a safety deposit box. You are placing something that you want to stay away from acidic contacts next to someone else's old, musty documents. Sorry, but your little box is not airtight.

Grade definitely has an impact. There are a few really nice 9.4 and 9.6 covers that I am considering having additional sketches on the back to bump the grade. I am not a "9.8 or nothing" type of person, but.... the 9.8 is nice... and makes a difference for a good number of collectors.
-
A good number of sketch covers are done on nice, white blanks so color breaking creases are less of an issue. Obvious spine bends and corner crunches do decrease the grade, but the most likely downgrade is due to stray marks on the back cover.

Hi Mollie. My Batman Adventures 2003 issues have made it to the census, but still are not available for the registry (1247992). Thanks!

Two of these came in this week. I am really looking forward to Jaime Hernandez at Emerald City. Two of the 1982 copies are first printings and one is a second I also managed to find a wonderful Beto Luba sketch.
