  1. Was watching an auction and when it ended I say this in the bid history.

Three different bidders with the exact amount after the auction ended?

Has this ever happened to anyone? Who gets the item? Is this just a rare glitch?

I have so many questions, I have never seen this in my 15 years on eBay.

    What is going on here?

It depends on the weight, package dimensions and distance.

if the package is over 1 kg, and has dimensions (L +W + H) totalling 90 cm or less, then you’re typically looking at about $20-$25. It’s supposed to vary by distance, but distance seems to Typically be measured by some random set of criteria.

There’s a tool on the Canada Post website wher you can input the weight, size and send & receiving postal codes, and it will tell you the cost.

You can also apply for a Venture card if you’re going to be doing this regularly. It doesn’t cost anything, but does give discounts for shipping within Canada.

    Thank you for the help

Man don't get me started. Showcase 30 was published over a year after AC 260, in SC 30 they retell the same origin as in AC 260. SC 30 is basically his first solo comic, its like SC, 4, 22, or 34, except its not the first SA appearance of the character. In AC 260 it is revealed that Aquaman is now, "Arthur Curry," and that he is Atlantean, and that his mother is Atlanna, all of this is new, and overrides is previous golden age character and origin as revealed in More Fun #73.

Now, the reason why CGC or other grading companies don't write, "First appearance of the SA Aquaman" (make sure we keep in mind the difference between "First SA appearance", and "First appearance of the SA Aquaman) is because Aquaman was continually published as backup throughout the golden to silver age transition in Adventure Comics. So essentially it can be argued that the Aquaman in AC 259 is the same as in AC 260, however AC 260 is the first appearance of the new character as it is the first appearance of his new origin, and heck the first time he gets a name, Arthur Curry, other than Aquaman. This makes a pretty strong case for it being the first appearance of the SA Aquaman. Just how GL was revamped in SC 22 or how Flash was in SC 4 or Hawkman in BB 34, they have the same name, and in some cases look the same (heck the SA and GA Hawkman are practically identical) yet they are still considered revamps, and their respective issues are, "First appearance of the Silverage ____" Aquaman has 2 main versions just like GL and Flash a SA and GA version.

CGC used to label AC 260 as "First SA Origin of Aquaman," but they stopped that some years ago. Basically you have generally ill-informed buyers, who think SC 30 is the key to buy, because sellers market it dishonestly. It's not. Yes it's still important, and a key, but it is only his first solo book tryout, not his first appearance and not his #1 issue. It's basically the equivalent of AC 381 for Supergirl, just a first solo comic. AC 260 is the true and only, "First appearance of the SA Aquaman," and of course More Fun 73, "First appearance of Aquaman."

Both my copies of AC 260 I got for $20-40, though prices have risen a bit, an 0.5 and 2.5. I would highly recommend picking up a copy, as the markets ignorance has led to this book being extremely cheap for its rarity and importance. Its not a very common book, only 195 on census.

As always thank you for giving me the opportunity to spread news of AC 260. It is my one goal and only mission to have this key issue recognized for what it is. lol

P.S. Plenty of people do recognize this key, including the site comics.gocollect.com

My mind is blown. Thank you for sharing this information.

I also think the fact that he is not on the cover of AC 260 makes things worse.

I have never been a huge fan of Aquaman but after learning these facts I am on the hunt for AC 260, especially after doing some research of the value.

Probably the biggest might as well get it books out there.

No doubt Adventure comics 260. Its the First SA appearance of Aquaman, (though not officially recognized by cgc) should be up there in value with SC 22 and BB28, but the market is ignorant for the most part of its presence, and you can get a VG copy for user $100.

I guess you would call this more "undervalued" than affordable, but still very affordable.

Crazy since on top of the fact its his first SA appearance its also his origin issue. Why does it say "1st Aquaman tryout issue" on showcase 30? Why is showcase 30 also stated as his origin? Whats going on?

I know very little about Aquaman but this is interesting.

They do. They already have a program in place where they put signed items in slabs that are witnessed, but aren't comic books.

It's the "art" program. It's been in place for years. Here's an example:

    s-l1000.jpg

    Pretty cool, huh?

It probably wouldn't make much sense to have a signed label AND a comic, but you never know, it might be worth considering if enough people are interested.

I think if it was done right it would be really cool.

yes its not a perfect idea like adding sigs could be come a problem due to limited space but I still think people would like it.

It's kind of like selling a slabbed book, you want cgc to grade the book in order to ensure the reputation of the grade...

    Same with signature series....

There is a whole box at my half priced books of like 40 books with raw sigs...

    Sat there forever...

If they were yellow label, whoever sold them might have at least got their total fees back, if these certain sigs meant anything to anybody lol

    @kav @the blob

and if CGC would create a sig series with label sigs I might finally buy a CGc sig book.

Autographs on collectibles are pretty common. Folks were getting booms signed long before comics And many a signed first edition from the right author go for a ton. I don't chase signatures but I totally understand their appeal, particularly if authenticated. Todd McFarlane signing his own book hardly seems like defacement.

Kirby himself could come back from the grave, signed Captain America #1 and he would be defacing it.

The short answer is because the individual copy is far removed from the creator. The creator had nothing to do with producing the copies of his or her work. They just created the original. What you hold in your hand is a copy of a copy of a copy of the original work. So, having a creator sign a specific copy...to touch that copy...makes that copy more special to some, because it is a direct connection to that specific copy of their work.

Regardless it still makes no sense too me. As a collector, why would you want to deface a collectible?

Since its a copy of a copy of a copy... why write on it?

What difference does it make as long as you have a verified signature? You still need to bring the book anyways.

Not to mention if you ever crack the book out and your not getting another sig your out of luck as nobody will accept its as a verified signature anymore.

Seen that happening for years, often from the same sellers. Some sellers just get WAAAY more bids and prices than almost everyone else on book after book after book for fairly common stuff.

I always wonder if I'm watching an online comicbook-selling version of a 3-Card Monte street-scam, where everyone around is paying and winning - but they're all in on it except the mark. Not quite shill-bidding, maybe several sellers agreeing to bid up each other's stuff and they just keep passing the same money around until a mark buys one and that pays for it all.

I mean how many people fall for these type of scams? How many times can a seller shill up and hold the book, pay the fee and then have to still sell the book?

    Its all very confusing.

And yet, the entire DC movie universe was being built around a space tyrant who was seeking "mother boxes".

yeah nothing new, DC can't figure out how to be original even though most of the marvel characters are rip offs of their own ideas. its a sad state of affairs

I don't think the fandom would want to go thru a big cosmic adventure again like this current Thanos storyline. I think people after this Thanos saga ends would want something else, and not another similar end of the universe Darkseid storyline.

The movie audience has been there now with Thanos. It all seemed new.

With Darkseid it just would seem like the same storyline all over again almost.

I know I give the DC movie Universe a hard pass if I knew that all their movies would be centered around fighting Darkseid.

I am glad DC is now taking a different route and making the DC movies stand alones.

Unfortunately for Darkseid is that Thanos made his movie appearances first and is now a household name.

    Image result for thanos

Thats my point though, if say they did the superman story line from the the Superman Animated series then it would be a much different tone. I agreed that doing the same type of formula that Marvell has would not work. The 5 movie, massive universal event type thing would be seen as a copy. But my point was Darkseid can be used differently.

  12. 5 minutes ago, ComicConnoisseur said:

Which proves my point. If I a comic reader/collector think that about Darkseid than what do you think mainstream would think about Darkseid?

If DC ever made a series of movies about Darkseid we would find mainstream will say here we go again DC trying to copy Marvel.

Marvel hit gold with Thanos. Anything done by DC with Darkseid would seem second rate now.

Marvel beat them to the punch.

    btw @grayzr Nice avatar.

    :foryou:

So what your saying is if a movie came out with Darkseid that painted him completely different from Thanos and the plot was great that all everyone would care about is that he is a rip off of thanos?

    What?

Speaking of vilians, which makes me realize if I had to name some overpriced first appearance, than it be of Darkseid.

    image.jpeg.319c95f31ed51c9ce4f29ebb55c4b2cb.jpeg

Mainstream people would just think of Darkseid as a Thanos rip-off. Yeah I know Darkseid came first, but mainstream doesn't.

Plus does anybody really want to see the Thanos story retold again with Darkseid replacing him on the screen? Do we really want to see Justice League take on Darkseid for like 5 DC movies?

I am betting most would say no.

So yeah my pick would be first Darkseid who unfortunately would now be considered a poor man`s Thanos to the rest of the world.

    :insane:

First off Darkseid is Nothing like Thanos personality wise. His motives are much more sinister. In the Comics Thanos is crazy and in love with death. From the MCU perspective, Marvel has taken an approach with Thanos that paints him as the great equalizer of the universe. Darkseid wants to bend everything and everyone to his will. Thanos in the MCU is trying to do the right thing, at least in his eyes. Doesn't scream I want to rule the universe and all that live in it.

I agree that DC should not do what they did with Thanos and drag a Darkseid story out 5 movies. But to say Darkseid is a poor mans Thanos just shows how little you know about the character. One example would be the episode on the superman animated series from the 90s where Darkseid captures superman and makes him believe he is his son. That's just one example of how DC could use him in a way that would not make him look like a rip off of Thanos.

Also how is his first appearance over priced?

I would argue that out of every villain's first appearance Darkseid both in cameo and full are great value considering there is no hype at the moment for him. Due to the uncertainty of the DCEU. His Cameo in JO 134 hasn't really increased that much over the last 5 years, I recently bought a CGC 7.5 for like 215$. His first full appearance in Forever People #1 at CGC 9.0 can be had for 250-300$

Seems reasonable to me for one of the biggest and baddest villains in the Dc universe (shrug)

  14. I have noticed weird bidding activity on eBay over the last few years, much more then usual. especially when it comes to CGC key books.

Books are bid up higher then buy it now prices on the same book in the same grade by CGC, makes no sense at all.

If you then do some detective work by look at the bid history things get even more obvious, its a shilling mans game.

I know shill bidding has been a problem on eBay for ever but it seems to be out of control now.

I see auctions over FMV within the first day or 2 of an auction starting. How impatient are these jokers?
