What's the deal with the Atlas globe?  CGC notes that on Human Torch 14, it's the first time the Atlas globe is used.  But on Terry Toons 17, they note "1st Atlas brand emblem and 1st Atlas globe logo (blue)".  I know there were a few different versions, but what's the deal?  Is it so simple that I'm missing it?  I'm confused.

I suspect it's because the humor and funny animal books were ignored by the collecting community for such a long time that this was just overlooked or at least not documented until more recently.  I always used to think that the Ernie Gerber Photo-Journal books included almost every golden age comic book from the major publishers.  It wasn't until I started collecting the Timely humor titles like Mille the Model, Tessie, Nellie, Joker etc. that I realized that the Gerber books only included photos of a handful of issues from each of these titles. Many of the humor titles were largely ignored for decades.

Very interesting. I understand how a good looking, supple and long legged Annual #1 could suck a fella in! I am really enjoying reading about your collecting path here. . Did you do a lot of upgrading on books you bought, or did you make sure that you bought a copy you were going to be satisfied with right off of the bat?

:golfclap:I love that crazy cover. First appearance of warning pole Archie. Nice colours on yours as well. If you look at 10 beside 11, you can clearly see they were still trying to find themselves. Such a contrast of things happening. The first ten are truly unique. Which issue is your favourite from your 1-200 run?

I'm not sure that I have one favorite but since I like Christmas covers, #6 has always been among my favorites.

Do you think you acquired most of your run from in person purchases where you were able to assert a grade before purchasing, or did you suffer a lot of buying Archies off of the net that did live up to expectations?

I bought most of them online.  I started searching eBay for Archie's around 2000 to 2001.  One of the earliest books I bought was a copy of Archie Annual #1.  That really kickstarted my desire to start collecting again. I definitely ended up with an overgraded book from time to time but for the most part, I was pretty lucky.  Most of the 1940's and 1950's books I bought were usually about very good to very fine.  I'd say about 70 to 75% of my purchases were from eBay and the rest were from dealer websites. I had a really demanding job so going to conventions wasn't really an option.

As for the fun, crazy covers, here's my copy of #10.  My original was just as faded as the #8 I posted but I don't have a scan of it on hand.

Awesome - thank you. Have you seen many of these around?

I haven't.  They seem to be pretty scarce.  I think the numbering may be part of the "Archie Series" that was published by Bell Features in Canada.  The series started with the U.S. Jughead #1 and continued by alternating issues of Archie's Pal Jughead, Archie's Rival Reggie, Archie's Girls Betty & Veronica, and Katy Keene.  This issue doesn't fit the normal pattern since it's not one of those titles but it may be part of the series.

That will likely work. Any theories as to why the 3 names (Wilbur, Archie, Suzie) are at the top of this Can. ed.? Just advertising other titles in the line?

That Canadian #11 is actually an issue of Pep Comics.  I'm travelling away from home right now so I can't confirm which issue but my recollection is that the contents are Pep #90.  So in answer to the main question about that issue, it's not a reprint of a Katy Keene issue.  The Katy Keene cover is the splash page from the Katy story.

@Get Marwood & I So the chair you sat in didn't sell?  Your writings make me laugh out loud.  People here wonder what I'm looking at...

...and THANK YOU for that Jughead Creature cover.  Never seen that before and it's GOOD!

I think the creature cover appeals to horror collectors too.  They basically copied the creature from the black lagoon in great detail.

Most of us have seen these vintage comic rack pictures. The pictures came from July 1948 Newsdealer publication. I currently have a copy on eBay auction here

Not meaning this to be an advertisement to drive you to my auctions but this is fairly rare I believe and some of you may be looking for a copy.

Boy, Timely definitely outnumbered other publishers as to the number of titles they published.  It looks like almost half of the comics on display are Timely titles.

Curious, why avoid Canadian editions ? I know UK editions usually go for less, though there are claims some might actually be printed before US editions. I have also heard there was a short craze for Australian editions because of the small print runs.  Looking for insight...

Canadian editions with the same cover as US editions don't always contain the same contents for the cover as the US edition.  Also, the interior printing, when in color, is often out of register, sometimes severely, so there may be many pages where the colors don't line up at all.
