  1. And bumb for the thread!! Nice upgrade! This thread is nearing 100 pages soon...... Congratulations! Very nice!
  2. Here's a new listing for Archie #2 on ebay. It appears a bit suspicious. Archie 2 This is the only item the seller has listed, all the seller's feedback is more than 1 year old, and I have never seen a seller with so much feedback from NARU'd ebay ID's. Also, much of the feedback has similar wording although it's from many different users.
  3. That Archie Annual 1 is one crisp looking, sharp cornered book! I initially bid on some of the non-Archie cover Pep's but I forgot to follow-up before the auctions ended so I didn't win anything.
  4. I was watching Ted's auctions as well. He listed an Archie #8 last night that has already passed $1,000. A number of the books brought some really strong prices. I placed some bids throughout last week's auctions but I've come to the realization that I'm not going to be adding any of his books to my collection.
  5. Some new additions to the collection: Not teen humor but a nice Dan DeCarlo book. And finally Millie!
  6. I agree. The contents of the book are no different from any issue before or after in the series. It's purely a breakout cover. My copy is decent but I would definitely like to upgrade. I may have to settle for decent though if it continues to sell for 4 figures.
  7. This thread started in 2005 and back then, it introduced me to all the great "other than Archie" teen titles; especially those from Timely/Marvel/Atlas. I can't help but think it's introduced a lot of collectors to these books based on sales results like this Cindy 37
  8. I agree. Especially for those of us who want to own an example of early Archie, but can't afford #1. We'll make do with #9 (for example) and be happy with what we can afford. I think that some of the modern Archie endeavors such as Archie gets married, Life With Archie, and Afterlife with Archie have helped give Archie a bit more credibility in collecting circles. There has definitely been an in increase in collector interest over the past few years. How many of those collectors stay in the game for the long term will impact how well prices hold up. I do think that Archie 1 and Pep 22 have officially become serious keys and I don't think that will change in the near future.
  9. You'll be the first to know if I decide to part with them!
  10. One of my favorite Pep covers by Montana. The colors on this Canadian copy "pop" more than the US version.
  11. Here are some recent additions: Krazy #1 with a Tessie looking character who's not Tessie. Krazy #2 with the real Tessie: A great Margie cover, which I'm pretty certain is by Dan DeCarlo: And finally, Showgirls:
  12. I love your Patsy Walker #1! It's one of my favorites too. The 1940's issues are especially good since they are less PC. Patsy and Hedy could both be pretty catty and cruel in the early issue. I have grown to like the Irma stories. They are mainly based on the one joke premise that Irma is dumb but there are often funny twists where Irma comes out on top and everyone's not quite sure she's as dumb as she acts. I do agree that the Marvel/Atlas/Timely teen comics are overall pretty good reading. Even though they are considered "teen" titles, Mille, Tessie, Nellie, Hedy, Irma, Rusty, and Lana are all young adults rather than teens so their stories often differ from the usual teen books.
  13. I couldn't resist this Zip 18 since it's the Wilbur equivalent of Pep 22. The condition is not great but I was glad to get a copy. And of course it's got a terrific MLJ cover by Novick.
  14. It only took 11 years but I finally upgraded this book. For me, this was the most difficult to find of the 51-60 Pep run.
  15. It looks like Archie will be adding a new horror series starring Sabrina according to USA Today. Link
  16. Thanks for the great shots! There are some terrific splash pages in the early Archie books that deserve to be seen. The archive books are nice but nothing beats seeing the original pages!
  17. I just received #5 yesterday. I subscribe directly from Archie so I think it arrives a few days before the retail date. Haven't read it yet though.
  18. If $1,500 is too much for your budget, you can just buy it now under its alternate listing: Archie 23
  19. Here's another ALWA piece of cover art work that I bought from Andrew Pepoy. He does his art on 15x22 board so they're really impressive in size.
  20. Ok, we've established that many of the Archie 1 comics have an "A" on the back (which stands for "Archie" obviously) And many PEPs have a "P" on the back. But, many of the Archie 1 comics DON'T have an "A" on the back. And it's not because it's been cropped off, it's because there are two different versions. I'm not sure how they managed comic printing and distribution back then but I wonder if the comics were printed at one central location or at several different printers across the country. I've collected old records for years and there are often differences between original pressings due to their being pressed at different plants around the country.
  21. Okay. You made me look. My Archie #1 has the "A" on the back cover. So do #'s 2 and 3 but not 4. Some of my Pep's have the "P" so it is for the title. I had Suzie #51 nearby and it has "Su" on the back cover.
  22. 14, 15, and 16 are kind of run of the mill as far as the covers go but I've always really liked 17.
