  1. I looked at that book and didn't even notice that. That's disappointing. I would hope they either pull the auction or have the book reholdered for the buyer.
  2. Thanks! I like a lot of the Archie variant covers and I've been trying to find original artwork for some of them. I've finally been able to get a few. The art for the Betty variant of ALWA #1 just sold on ebay recently. I've seen some of the Tim Seeley art posted elsewhere but I haven't seen much for sale.
  3. I just received this artwork for the #6 variant from Andrew Pepoy. It's my first experiment assembling multiple scans to piece the full artwork together. Many of the zombie faces behind Sabrina are Archie characters. A lot of that is covered by the logo on the print issue.
  4. I tend to approach any PGX book as if it's overgraded without regard to appearance. They've had too many examples of extreme overgrading. I would agree that it's closer to 5.0. There appears to be too much spine roll for a 6.5.
  5. Here's a piece of art that's not a cover. I had posted it in the art thread but there aren't any Archie people over there. This was listed on ebay a couple times and I finally took the bait. It's colored pencil on bristol board and done by an artist named Rafael Ruiz. I don't believe he's any relation to Fernando Ruiz. Anyway, I thought it was a fairly recent piece but it's dated 11-28-89 on the back. It was unframed. Once I received it, I couldn't resist getting a frame for it.
  6. This is the airbrush painting for Betty & Veronica #62, 2nd series from 1993. The original pencil and ink is Dan DeCarlo and Allison Flood. The artwork has been transferred to a transparency so of course it's not original. Then Rex did the airbrush painting on bristol board behind the transparency. His signature is on the painting itself. I had never seen one of these before. Wish I could find more! These are so much nicer looking than color guides and color separations.
  7. I recently purchased this piece on ebay from a member of the artist's family. The artist is Rafael Ruiz, not to be confused with longtime Archie artist Fernando Ruiz. I thought it was a fairly recent piece but it's dated 11/28/1989 on the back. It's colored pencil on bristol board. I thought it looked so nice that I had to frame it.
  8. I honestly don't know Todd. Sometimes I think I really have grading down, and other times I'm just way off. I have to believe it would get at least 7.0-7.5 and I'd hope for higher, but I also wouldn't be surprised if it came back as a 6.5 cause that's been my luck with CGC. value, the cover, or coverless insides? I think your estimate 7.0-7.5 would be about right. My copy (p 18) is a cracked Regarding who would get the coverless 7 ... , That's a good question. I'd like to think that I'm big enough to let it go for a fair price. I hope someone would do the same for me with an Archie 8 cover. What does this group think has more 6.0. Yours should definitely come out higher. Do you really think so? Your copy is so perfectly centered, I'm just not sure how the bindery defect plays into the grading. It's hard to gauge how the cover wrap might impact the grade. I sometimes think CGC is more forgiving of certain defects for GA.

  10. If you go by our "club census" #6 is the scarcest title so far. It's still pretty early for 2-10 postings though. BTW I posted the Club Census on the 1st page under my 1st posting. i thought it would be an easy place to go back to if anyone wants to look at census results. I agree that 6 may be one of the more difficult issues. Mine came from Met in 2004. I saw it listed on their website and intended to buy it, then it was gone, then it reappeared. I assumed that someone bought it and returned it. So then I bought it. Heritage sold the Crippen copy, which was a qualified 8.0 due to detached cover and centerfold. It was a sharp looking copy though. Otherwise, I've seen a handful for sale since but they were all usually a bit ragged. And then someone, somewhere has the Church copies. I don't believe that #2-10 are with #1, which is or was owned by the dentist.
  11. I'd be interested to hear from others but #9 has always seemed a lot scarcer than #8 and #10. I guess there's no way of knowing if print runs differed with each issue.
  12. That #5 might have ended higher had the photos been better. It looked like it might present nicely but it was hard to tell by the photos. Archie 5
  13. Very nice! Both of our copies have that little cursive "L" on them also.
  14. I forgot to mention that the #9 was graded at 6.0. I had to crack it out of it's slab though. My #2 I posted earlier I believe is unrestored as well.
  15. I bought #1, which is restored, in 2001. I managed to get the rest of them by 2009. After that the market started getting crazy. The #4 and #5 scans are copies that are missing some centerfolds. My complete copies of each don't present as well. You're right, I don't want to slab them so I can enjoy them. The archive books are nice but I like to handle the actual books. #3 would be downgraded for the detached cover (as well as a little glue where it was previously glued on). #6 through 10 I believe are all unrestored. #8 has a piece of magic tape at the base of the spine. After I scanned it, I saw that someone used the tape to attach a piece of brown paper to fill a tiny piece out of the cover. I assume that if I had the magic tape removed, it would otherwise be unrestored. I bought and sold several copies of 8 & 10 over the years until I found copies with colors that bright. I still have copies of those two that I bought when I was about 10 years old that had extremely faded covers so it was always my goal to upgrade then with nicer copies.
  16. And another strange cover for #10. #6, 8, and 10 are some of my favorites.
  17. Finally Miss Grundy makes the cover on #9
  18. #6 is one of my all-time favorite covers. A Christmas cover! The book starts off with a Halloween story. Go figure.
  19. Here's my incomplete #4 with the pretty cover. The complete copy is more ragged.
  20. Seeing as how the Archie 1 club has so few members I think it would be fairly easy to open it up to the Archie 2-10 owners. I love seeing these covers and have a fascination with the census numbers on all these early issues. All in agreement? I recently scanned a number of books so I'll add mine. Here's 3. Detached cover but otherwise fairly nice.
