I used to own a few High grade Smash comics. I too originally thought it was the Spirit. Surprisingly a lot of dealers still do. I like the cover art on them but when you remove Eisner from the equation you lose the soul of the character and stories, even in a direct attempt at copying him. Very nice pick up you should be very happy with it.

I've noticed a lot of the mid grade pre Robin Tec's seem to have some form of spine split. I think all 3 of the Tec #31 5.0's have at least a 1 incher. Is this because of the thickness of the books?

Are staple tears ever a result of the binding process? If so would they be considered less detrimental to a grade than those that are caused by consumer wear?

It probably looks more reasonable at its actual size as opposed to 200% magnification. If that and the light wear are it I could see 9.0. I owned a 9.0 MH Smash comic that had similar wear.

There's a nice looking restored copy in the next heritage auction. It will probably get a reasonable price because of the extensive resto.
