  1. I was surprised to win this tonight - thought for sure it would go for over $100. Would be nice if it was better than a 9.4, but I'm not complaining.
  2. I picked these up at a garage sale this morning, nice little seven issue run! Atom & Hawkman 39-45 - from the same litter too, looks like. Brothers! But seriously, take a look at the quality! Garage sale! Were those the only comics they had? Seems like an odd set of books to find randomly and all by themselves at a garage sale. Nice job!
  3. I need that. What comic or comics (publisher/date range) have that ad? I picked up a Flash v2 #139 (July 1998) recently and that Buffy ad is the back cover. I would think this made it to Marvel books, too.
  4. Agree on the value. We picked one up and have played it a few times, but it just isn't that great. Maybe it needs better games all around or some of the old ones don't hold up that well - but we aren't that impressed. Controller cable length is a joke - they thought of making the extensions to sell separately, but didn't think people would prefer to have a longer cable in the game itself?
  5. I picked up this Walt Disney's Comics and Stories v2 #6 in an online auction a couple weeks ago and was very happy with the condition when I received it. Finally got around to getting some pictures to share here. This is the first time I've owned one of these GA books - and am very impressed with the color quality and artwork. I think this might be a book to get graded, but was surprised to see only 11 of these are graded on the CGC Census page. If I could get a 6.0 or better grade for this, seems like a no-brainer to send it in, right? Spine of the book is good, slight roll to it - so it could probably use a press. 1/4 inch tear on right edge of cover, and light pencil "W" on the O of comics - but otherwise very clean looking cover and back. Pages on inside show some moisture discoloration at the top of the book. [
  6. Looks like you found some keepers! Nice job, but the action comics posted after you will probably steal your thunder..
  7. Slow time of year for garage sales in the midwest - but found a sale this weekend. Posting was interesting, listing 1000's of comics and this picture... Was hoping for some silver age or earlier stuff based on pictures looking like the owner was older, but had no idea of what to expect on conditions. "1,000's" might have been an exaggeration, but was surprised to find 4+ long boxes of books in great shape. Most were just in boxes without bags/boards - but were just like new. Unfortunately, it was mostly mid-90's drek - but was able to pull a dozen or so Deadpool books, first 10 issues of Suicide Squad and Black Flash issues from M Millar run. Lots of DC "Adventures" books - but not Batman 12. Had to take issue 11 since that's the closest I've come to finding that book in the wild. Probably should have taken a second pass through to make sure I didn't miss anything - but it was 30 degrees in unheated/open garage - so left happy with what i found at about 50 cents a book.
  8. I won an online auction of some 15 or so Marvel Star Wars comics and other related books a couple weeks ago. The reason we wanted it was the lot included Boba Fett issue 42. When we received the books - we were happily surprised to find two copies of that issue!
  9. Those Fantastic Fours look great! Any back story on these? Gotta be more than just the usual garage sale/thrift store find...
  10. Great finds at the antique store! I figure i'll hit up some of those places when the colder weather hits and garage sale season ends in the midwest.
  11. Finally getting some more pictures up from last weekend. Here's a few others I picked up - but this is the rest of the good stuff. There was alot of stuff in really bad shape, but i was happy to see mine were all complete. Seller had come up with values for the books based on some ebay searches they had done. This led to some interesting negotiating on value/condition/etc. I left a couple early Showcase Space Ranger/Adam Strange and other interesting books behind because a deal couldn't be worked out. Overall, can't complain though. Just won on online auction with Flash #108 - dumb luck to run into two sellers/three issues from the early silver age run of the series in the same week.
  12. Those were the best books in the lot, so just the near misses on the really big books. It's a glass half empty scenario - you are happy to find what you do, but always think about the "what if" of the issue just being one away from an even bigger find.
  13. I ran into one of the best finds I'll probably ever have looking for comics at garage / estate sales this weekend - and it happened in the most random way. I had hit up a few listings that came up for this weekend on Friday and Saturday without finding much of any value. Sunday morning we had to visit a friend in the hospital out of the way of where I would normally go to sales. I had seen one listed here that started on Friday, so I figured anything good would be long gone by Sunday. My wife was game for me checking it out, so I gave it a shot. Old house was being cleared out - and they said there were comics in the back room. Found an old cardboard box with about a hundred loose books in it - no bags or boards, had probably been in the same box for 40+ years. A few of the books were in pretty bad shape with missing covers, pages falling out and plenty of wear on them - but not too bad considering the way they had been treated. I asked if anyone else had bought any - and they said a couple looked at them but didn't go through them to look at each one. I was lucky that no one had looked too closely at the box, since there were some key books there that I never expected to find in this setting. I need to take pictures of more of the books still - but here's the best three for tonight (still need to figure out how to post pictures better on here)...
  14. Nice! Did you get a whole run of ASM, or did you just pick out what you wanted?
  15. Looks like some searching and sorting ahead for you. Let us know what you find!
  16. Found these at a garage sale for $1 each. Odd set up with a ton of star wars/action figure stuff and a couple of long boxes. He said he picked up stuff whenever he saw it on his travels - but didn't seem to know the value of most of it. I was looking for specific expanded universe SW figures - and he didn't know what i was talking about. One long box was only Fantastic Four - starting with the books below from early 100's. too bad # 112 wasn't there - but was happy with these. My son and I had laughed at the ridiculousness of Impossible Man on issue 176 when we saw it online recently, so had to get that one. The other box was a mish-mash of the usual image dreck from 90's - but was happy to see key Doomsday books. Surprised to find the Big Shot mixed in with some gold key/disney stuff. all in all, a great garage sale stop!
  17. so this is literally a guy on the street corner with a box of comics doing business? can't say i've see that before
  18. I think so, or a colored copy. Either way, for a $1? Nice job, Mrs. Donut. The DIY corner adds to the charm of the book. Good find by the Mrs!
  19. That makes sense - the place had scanned the back of the index that was included in the auction. It threw me off, since it looked like another issue was included but not in the description. Good sleuthing! Thanks!
  20. Does anyone know what this comic is? It looks like it's issue #3, but I can't find it online anywhere. Saw it included in an online auction - but they didn't respond to my question about it... Sorry for the bad picture this was all I could grab off their auction site.
  21. This was at an estate sale 126 mile north of me and there were around 2,000 books, including FF #1, Daredevil #1, FF #45 X-Men #10, 14, & 44, Silver Surfer #1, and more. It was a feeding frenzy and this is what I got out if it. Here's the kicker, they were all the same price. That sounds crazy! So they were all listed for the same price per book (like $10 each?) and it was a free-for-all with people grabbing whatever they could? Seems like an estate sale organizer would at least realize that there were items of value there. Congrats though - would like to hear more about it and hope I run into something like that someday!
  22. Just found this thread on a suggestion from "Garage Sale Finds" post - Thanks for putting in the time to journal your efforts!
  23. Thanks for sharing! Looks like a good haul - hope there are enough gems in there to make it worth your while! If you don't mind me asking - how did you find the seller, and what kind of offer does somebody make on over 1000 comics?
