  1. Don’t assume that because it’s on a white part of the book means it doesn’t break color. When inspected closely, there may be a loss of gloss in that white spot that would be looked at as a loss of “color”. It may be hard to see through the slab and inner chamber because of the glare produced by the clear plastics.
  2. I’ve seen vids where at the request of the customer, cgc will give a universal grade but it will be lower than what it would get with a green label.
  3. There are methods to trimming that are undetectable and they’re not done with an exacto knife and can be done to the tiniest micron of an inch. I can’t see color touch being so precise as not all color breaks occur on solid blocks of color. How time consuming would it be in order to “fix” every color break on a heavily detailed work from an artist who uses an extreme amount of cross hatching and feathering, changes in line weight, etc. Your restoration would be pretty limited to those breaks over solid color and any overlapping would more than likely show if it was more than a hairs width of the crease itself. Have you also considered the likelihood of “bleed through” in the areas where the paper’s integrity is compromised? Call me a doubting Thomas but I can’t see it happening
  4. I’ve often mentioned this because the white border will look as though it’s flawless but upon further inspection, the gloss will be gone in those creased areas and the pressing can’t replace that. At times it’s overlooked by the person submitting the book.
  5. Stain looks like it’s been absorbed into the paper and not surface dirt so odds of a dry clean removing it are slim. As for the bend, if it breaks color a press won’t help but even if the book could be improved, I don’t think the bump would be significant enough for a resub
  6. Distilled water can get the staining out. Depends how involved you want to get with it though. Rolling a moistened q-tip over the “shore line” (where the stain is at it’s darkest point) will absorb the stain if done repeatedly until the discoloration is lessened or completely gone but should be done carefully and allowed to dry and/or spot ironed. There’s also a method of basically giving the page a shower with a squeeze bottle and letting gravity help the stain run off the page. There are a couple of youtube vids you may want to watch first.
  7. Get some mending tissue, lay the cover face down and reinforce the spine where needed (no need to use more than what’s needed); do the same for a loose centerfold. Remove the staples, line up the cover and pages and pop the staples back in the existing holes. Easy-peasy lemon squeezy. If they’re not high value books that you’re looking to flip for a profit and just want to keep them from falling apart, this is probably your best option.
  8. I was watching that one too. It would’ve paired up nicely with my Horrific 11. Congrats on the win 👍
  9. Still steals to be found on eBay. These were the most recent “wins” this week
  10. I never read the comics and when I watched the first episode, it started out as a typical “teenage superhero coming of age” story but I was wowed by the turn it took and have watched every episode faithfully. ‘Being an artist, my only gripe with the animation is the cell shading. The shadows on the pants of all the characters makes it look like they all crapped themselves 🤣 ...and now you can’t unsee it either
  11. I remember not being so enthused when Guardians of the Galaxy and Doctor Strange were announced and going to see both with lukewarm expectations. Those turned out to be my favorites of the mcu so I trust that regardless of how flashy the trailers may/may not be, I’ll be thoroughly entertained by what I see on the big screen
  12. If you buy books online, it’s something every buyer worries about. Especially when a certain amount of time has gone by, making it more difficult to get what you paid for.
  13. Picked this up from the boards a couple of months ago; thought it fit the thread. Can anyone find an earlier spoof?
  14. I had bought a lunch box full of 60’s and 70’s baseball cards back in the early 90s for 10 bucks. In it were a couple of stars: Hank Aaron, Willie Stargell, a Gary Carter rookie if I remember correctly. The lunch box was rusted at just about every 90` angle and the cards had absorbed that humid, metallic smell that haunts me to this day. It took weeks of keeping them in a bag with baking soda to at least make them somewhat bearable but I had to trade them off to get that feeling of disgust from off of me. Turns out, had the lunch box been in better shape, it would’ve sweetened the pot but it was corroded to the point that cards were falling out of it on the trip home so I just chucked it and carried the cards in a shopping bag.
  15. Pretty sure you’re gonna have to do something about the books absorbing that odor. Cats will spray boxes to mark territory and from the looks of those boxes, they did it often. Was it worth it? I guess time will tell. Can you imagine sending some of those to cgc and getting a rejection letter because they smell? The Crow looks nice but there are 3 printings of number 1. A 1st print is dated 2/89 on the interior. 2nd and 3rd have the notation on the inside front cover.
  16. Odd that this high dollar book was delivered to a wrong address; more like the wrong address was written on the package. Be wary of the “wrong address scam” where a package is shipped to an address in the same zip code so the tracking is marked as delivered. The “new number” is also a flag because if the seller used pics of another owner’s book, this could be an attempt at covering it up so you don’t dig too deep and catch them in the act. The harsh reality is that shady people exist and will do anything to make a buck. If you’re worried that this is the case, trust your gut and do what you can to fix the problem before it may be too late.
  17. I was a fan of the Monkees as a kid and still love them today
  18. I’m definitely choosing the better centered of the 2 but there’s a lot of new factors to take into consideration nowadays. Taking the time to compare both could cost you the acquisition of the nicer copy and the price could go up fairly quickly on a hot or htf book. Then what? Wait until another copy with better eye appeal comes along at a 25%+ increase?
  19. If you paid through PayPal, I think their buyer protection is good for 180 days so maybe go through them or your bank. Policies change so frequently now that I’m not even sure anymore.
  20. Trailer took me back to the old Shaw Bros movies I grew up with on saturday afternoons. I'll definitely be watching this one when it releases
  21. Do 9.6/9.8s of this book exist where there is no damage to speak of? Have other raws been displayed without the fraying? I ask because cgc could change the criteria for grading once enough copies with varying degrees of the flaw have been submitted. I could imagine the fold at the spine could take all kinds of damage in shipping where bundles get tossed around with no regard where others may have been moved around more delicately. I believe the number of submissions over the course of some time could determine whether this flaw becomes overlooked but that could take a few years where you would see an older 9.8 with the fraying and a newer one without it. If that were the case, I don’t think too many people would risk resubmitting.
  22. Neal Adams and John Byrne also did work over there You guys are gonna be sorry when Space 1999 and Doomsday +1 make it to the big screen
