I remember the owner of a candy store had a stack of comics on top of a freezer in the back of his store that I never bothered to look through because I thought they’d be some of the kiddie books that didn’t interest me. To my surprise there were all the Byrne x men run, annuals, some silver age stuff, etc. I asked the store owner what the prices were and he grabs one, looks at the cover price and says ”50 cents”. I say, “each?” and he says, “yeah, or just give me $5 and take them all. My son gives them to me after he reads them and tells me to sell them and they’ve just been piling up there for the last few years”. There were about 60 books in the stack, many of the early marvel squarebound stuff in excellent condition for where they’d been sitting with the occasional store cat laying by them, licking his fur. I thought I struck gold because I could sell them to my friends for $1 a piece, not knowing anything about the over street price guide back then

I still have a copy of the Conan with the 45 rpm 7” record along with some sealed Star Treks that were issued by another company that coincide with the motion picture. ‘Funny how cgc treats them by noting “record not included” but a copy of Spidey 238 gets a green label if it’s missing tatooz

Of course. I jumped on it within seconds of @Ryan. posting it in the g/s/b selling thread almost a year ago (January 27,2020 to be exact). Was a book I’d been wanting since I was a teen in high school....and it seems to be on fire now

Selling books at 4 figures+ on eBay just to leave 10% on the table is nuts to me.

They exist. Possible your copies were damaged during encapsulation, which isn’t unheard of but if ever removed and regraded will not come back 9.8s anymore

Most non color breaking indentations by the spine can be pressed out. The 9.8s you’ve seen were most likely considered part of the manufacturing process (usually where the staples are attached) and therefore not considered flaws. Take into consideration that what is invisible to the naked eye, even up close can/will be detected during the grading process because they are examined using other means so what you may perceive as a 9.8 may not be graded as such
