  1. Looks like the holes where the staples attach are a bit stretched giving the cover that loose feel. From the pics, I’d put it at 7.5 from the other flaws I can make out
  2. 5.5 o/w pages and you’d get dinged hard for the dirt on the back cover. A good clean/press might bump it to 6.0
  3. I think the tear keeps it from 9 or better. The press will get out the dimple and the spine roll but 8.0 is safe with a possible 8.5
  4. From the pic you posted, I can see an 8.0 before whatever hit you’d take for the tear based on the dinged upper left corner and some visible edge wear but you can get a ballpark estimate from more boardies by posting some good quality pics of the front and back in the “spare a grade” forum.
  5. I could be mistaken. I remember reading a thread where it was brought up some time about a year ago in here and how to distinguish the rarer of the two.
  6. Big flaws such as cut outs, missing pages, detached covers, etc.
  7. Not likely at all. It’s a simple tear but the book is still complete
  8. Happy to have placed in the top 10; always room for improvement. congrats to the winners and to buzz on those purty books there. Joey did a fantastic job.
  9. George Perez and Mike Zeck have awesome sigs too
  10. I’d like to thank Dale once again for starting this thread and making it easier for me to snipe deals over on eBay.
  11. Those are smudges. Trying to clean or remove them is a waste of time as it’s color loss and will more than likely damage the book further. I couldn’t see that getting any higher than an 8.0 if that
  12. That depends on the value of books in the long box and weather you got a steal of a deal.
  13. No, but it will have the original cover artwork by Kirby for the 1st appearance of Woodgod in marvel premiere
  14. Please, post pics. I can’t be the only one who wants to see them... pretty sure a few of us need a reason to take a hammer to our piggy banks
  15. Soooo..... How would cgc slab this one, still sealed with the cassette tape from 1994?
  16. Mike Zeck’s rendition of “Death” for the cover of GI JOE 43 and probably the best cover in the run, imo
  17. This is the book cover it was used on by Michael Golden
  18. Swan was the definitive Superman artist in my eyes but his “simple” style probably wouldn’t last too long after guys like Kneel Atoms came along and started influencing more artists styles that were more appealing to collectors. Example: the cover to Superman 233 fetches a premium price because of the Adams cover even though the interior art by Swan and Murphy Anderson looks fantastic. I don’t think it gets the same attention had they done the cover.
  19. Funny thing about Milgrom is that I hated his work until I’d seen some of his early projects that impressed me. His appeal suffered when he started doing every other cover and book when Marvel needed deadlines met and everything he did started to look rushed. Granted, the right inker can make heavy pencils and roughs into a masterpiece, which is where I place Byrne’s later work too. Loved his bronze age stuff but it too looked like he was no longer so enthusiastic about some things into the coppers and moderns.
  20. I didn’t know I wanted this book until I saw the cover in the marketplace. I thought it was a stunning depiction of a soldier at war and I had to have it. Thanks @kazoo
