  1. Hey everyone in Northeast Ohio! I wanted to throw in a word on here about a big sale this weekend in Amherst, OH. This Saturday May 26 and Sunday May 27th. 2 long time sellers, 2 garages, they live only minutes from each other, **thousands** of books! Im talking the garages are lined with long boxes and display shelves far as the eye can see. And if you're looking for something in particular, the've been known to dig them out if they aren't. I know both of these sellers personally and they're great guys and willing to strike a deal and offer fair prices! :) If you are on Facebook, the 2 sellers, Alan and Chuck, go under the name Comets Comics and Collectibles and you can search their page, also this link for the FB event!

If you'd like more information you can also feel free to shoot me a message!

  2. As I see many others have posted in here, I prefer Instagram to post pictures and little blurbs. Also as stated above it is a great source to find artists/like-minded individuals. You can also search by hashtag for specific topics that interest you. After a while of liking specific tags and following specific people it tailors an "explore" feature with suggested posts which is neat!

Also, I see what you are saying about facebook. To sound rather cliché, but how I feel: if the people of Facebook don't want to see the things you are *truly* interested in, then they can unfriend you if they so choose-- are they actually your "friends?" Best to be who you truly are both in person and online. Best of luck & give instagram a try perhaps! :)

  3. Perhaps I'm a bit of an outlier here as a 24yo female lol, but a friend of mine who collects GA and showed me how darn COOL they are and I fell in love. Started my collection with some Planet comics! I am a collector by nature, runs in the family. My grandpa was a big collector of many things. I started with rocks, knick knacks, books. Records and golden age books are new collections for me as of about 2 years ago, but I feel I've made some good progress!  I've enjoyed learning about value&grading, and found some SUPER neat covers here on the boards.

  4. I watched the latest episode this morning and MAN, crazy stuff. I didn't see that ending coming!

I agree with some of the earlier stated plot holes, but the one that bothers me the MOST is why couldn't Dany have her 2 dragons team up and just roast the night king right there and be done with it. I know she was in shock, but you would also think there would be extreme rage to take him out by fire right then and there.

    Spoiler

  5. Great thread Gino! And since you pointed out my lack of posting for a while I will try to contribute something!! (Although i don't know if this quite fits in with what I've seen so far.) But let me tell you, torn&taped up as it is, this is one of my all time favorite covers, Planet 41! The front and back are beat up, rough around the edges and a tad brittle, but I shared some art from the interior too-lovely! :)

Putting oneself into a "buying time-out", how does one do that?? I mean, the comics might just pop up for the grab, and money exist on my account. Food  expenses can be reduced, ramen is a good staple food for any collector, right? You just don't "not buy comics". It's unheard of! hm

Hahaha Believe it or not, it has actually been going well for me!! Mainly since I recently moved and had some big purchases that depleted my spending fund greatly. But trust me, if anything pops up on that ebay following list that i've had my eye out for, I will be considering it! :) How about I rephrase, I am not actively seeking out anything and spending more time considering before pulling the trigger--so that's my "time out"! Hehe

To be fair, some of them must buy something but I have a real hard time believing that the female cosplayers in particular are going to shows to buy bunches of silver and bronze age comics.

Eh, maybe not silver and bronze...I fancy myself more of a Gold gal, actually. I was at the Cleveland con yesterday. So if there had been some booths displaying Gold, I would have definitely been browsing-- in my costume and all.(thumbsu Perhaps it "didn't have pockets," as people like to say, but I had my purse and was ready to use it!

I have read the last 8 pages and some very valid, great points were brought up! I have cosplayed the past 2 years at the Cleveland con. I also appreciate collecting as a hobby and I have a little collection I am proud of, mainly gold but a mixed assortment! I personally only saw maybe 4-5 actual comic booths yesterday, (one of which had a "BUY 10, GET 20 FREE" sign on a few long boxes--heck of a way to move some books! Haha)

I suppose I just wanted to say hello and respectfully bring up that there are indeed cosplayers who enjoy collecting and aren't total jerks at shows and who would also appreciate to see more book booths!!:foryou:

  8. My ex, who I was with for 6 years, did not collect anything at all. Very much the anti-collector you could say. Very minimalist. I am a young woman with a career and make enough money to spend a bit here and there on things, but it got to a point in our relationship where he became money obsessed. I hid my purchases whether it was clothing or books, because I knew I would have to JUSTIFY to him why I spent my money on it or why I felt I needed it. It would always turn into an argument of me HAVING to get rid of x amount of things before I was "allowed" to bring anything into the house, (purchases that were only ever made with my own money, by the way. Him buy me a book? Don't make me laugh.?)

Point I'm making is, when I decide to commit to my next relationship, it is going to have to be with someone who appreciates the "collectors soul." It seems to me your wife is reasonable and pretty understanding. I recently put myself into a "buying time-out" after going on a bit of a buying binge!! Haha

...This individuals Stranger Things costume was nuttier than squirrel poop!! Honestly couldn't figure out how someone was wearing it literally dragging it around. It was awesome and all but that had to be more uncomfortable than a nun in a cucumber patch!!

    You and your sayings, Gino!!!???

Great costume! That would have been a welcome sight in last year's sea of Harleys

How was the attendance? Any good booths worth browsing?

Thanks @Cascaders27 :) I went later in the day 4-7pm and there was a nice amount of people. I really enjoy the artist booths and got to meet Ben Templesmith this year, he was nice, was able to tell him I read 30 Days of Night and liked his art style in general. Last year I spent a lot so I tried to keep it to a minimum this year, especially since I have an eBay shopping addiction already. Hehe Not too many actual comic booths, mainly merch and art. Bought a few small things here and there. Every year I see the booth with the AWESOME metal work/nuts&bolts art, and EVERY year I say I am going to buy an Alien one and never do. Next year will be the year perhaps!

@1Cool I assume thats a bit of a dig at cosplayers in general, but trust me, I brought my wallet as per usual. :flipbait:
