Based on GPA, I would say the delta between their FMV estimate and CGC's is roughly 40% to 50%, which is still under what I paid for the books considering market value at the time, shipping costs, buyers premium, etc. However, I have attached a screenshot for you to make your own assessment. The books referenced by CGC in the screenshot were both purchased as holdered and believed to be a grade of 9.8

I mean that looks like CGC is offering 110% with taxes of current eBay prices. I think that's pretty fair. If you bought replacement books today you'd bet probably $250 of current prices.

I, too, recently received emails for three of my four books affected by the tampering incident. It appears based on the offers provided by CGC that their analysis or assessment of "fair market value" is the actual or true grade of the book as part of this incident, not the grade as noted on the holder or as the consumer and original purchaser believed the book to be, which to me as someone impacted is unacceptable and in no way an attempt to make me whole. CGC seems to be playing with words such as "fair market value" to shroud their intent to make minimal disbursements for the claims in this incident.

What would you say the percentage is between your FMV and theirs?

Completely unacceptable for a man to have a wife & young kids yet spend his money on comics or collectibles but not on insurance to protect family.

Burial insurance is cheap and a million dollar accidental death policy is only $25 monthly.

I’m probably over insured but with a young wife & son, I want to make sure they never need anything or god forbid, to start a “go fund me” page when I croak because I was too shortsighted, ignorant & uncaring to make proper plans to protect them.

Something also I wish I thought ahead about. When I got my life insurance, if I died it could have easily afforded my family buying a house. 12 years later it's about 1/3 a house.

    Purchase with inflation in mind.

What happens with the books after CGC completes its review?

If CGC determines that a book has been tampered with, the book will be held by CGC pending the outcome of the insurance claim and legal process. If CGC determines that the book has not been tampered with, the old certification number will be deleted, the book will be assigned a new certification number, encapsulated, and returned to the submitter.

Sounds like people may be in for a long wait if the court case drags out.

  5. Looks like he was hit with Administrative Dissolution at the beginning of this year on his second LLC that he created post bankruptcy of the first one.

    Consequences of Administrative Action

    1. A state agency's first step to obtain LLC compliance is a letter notifying the owners of the LLC of what action they must take. The letter will typically include a notice of a penalty for late compliance, such as a fine, and what further penalties can be administered if the LLC continues to fail to comply. The next level of penalties typically involves a suspension of the LLC's right to conduct business. This can expose the LLC owners to personal liability for any debts incurred by the LLC during the suspension. The maximum penalty is for the LLC to be administratively dissolved or terminated. This means that the LLC's right to conduct business is ended and the only action the LLC can lawfully take is to wind up its affairs, pay its remaining debts and distribute the remaining assets to the owners.

  6. They may have their uses. Obviously it depends on how you pack, but my 1095 packed slabs frequently come out almost exactly 2lbs on the dot. Some lighter, some heavier. However, even 2.01lbs puts me in the 3lb cost range. That price difference can be upwards of $4-5 depending on the zone it is shipped to. If the Geminis can be reliably shipped under 2lbs, then it may be cheaper to use those in certain instances. Also keep in mind that Priority is more expensive than the new Ground Advantage tier. It's very possible that "free" box is costing you more to ship now.

    Daredevil 1 CGC 8.5 - UNLISTED  ⬇️

(NOTE: This shifts the timeline of tampering further back to Jan 15, 2018)

Over the past two weeks, I shared two UNLISTED books (FF 48 CGC 5.5 and ASM 300 CGC 9.8) and have continued compiling others. I continue to try to set aside time to work on this because of its significance, and would like to share the third UNLISTED today because I believe this is becoming even more important as events continue to unfold.

Applying the same details on the retrospective and current comparabiles analysis for books impacted by this "holder tampering." The purpose here is to use this unlisted book as an example of how one might arrive at a valuation suitable for redress and/or compensation.

While the serial number from the ComicVerify badge below is a sample, the data is live, and the screenshot takes you right to the sample appraisal and assessment, with notations, working links to diagrams, etc. Full disclosure, ComicVerify is an online appraisal service I began in March of 2022, along with an appraisal service called ToyVerify. It allowed me to streamline reports, and uses proprietary software I developed which helps accelerate the process of mining/discovery, recall, insight assement, as well as calculating comps using the desired valuation method, as well as offering real-time reporting, all accessible in a digital format (smartphone or on your computer).

Certification: 1202031002 (NOT ON THE LIST)

    Daredevil (1964-1998) #1 CGC 8.5

Based on the assessment arrived at, replacement value would be the method of valuation best suited to handle the market fluctuations seen from the time the book was sold in January 15th, 2018, and the current day, where consumers are being made aware of an alleged incident involving "holder tampering."

  8. Figured I'd circle back to see what a few art pieces are at in the Feb/March CL auction, and practically every piece already has 25+ bids with some having 120+ bids. The lowest bid count of any item in the entire auction is 7. This auction has been open for only a two days now (with 18 days left at the time of this post), and it seems like a lot of the pieces are already at what I expected them to go for at the hammer. Anyone else notice this?
